Sydney Trains & Ferries Trainspotting Ferry Spotting Foamers Tour
Ugh, Gloria Choo Choo back doing a Sydney Trains & Sydney Ferries vlog. Come with me to learn about amazing train facts and ferry fiction. See things you normally never see while travelling on Sydney Trains and Sydney Ferries using the Opal card system, Ugh!
Be amazed at how an ugly Toaster apartment building was built right next to the beautiful Sydney Opera House. Hear about how the brilliant designer of the Sydney Opera House, Jørn Utzon resigned or basically sacked by the small thinking government of the day who were concerned about the buildings escalating construction costs and wanted to argue with Utzon on every construction and design decision.
Sadly Mr Utzon passed away in 2008 never returning to Sydney to see the completed Sydney Opera House. Fact is The Sydney Opera House, was never finished to Utzon’s detailed and brilliant master plans. Instead the interiors were re-designed without the features and innovations Utzon had planned. As usual the government never realized how important this building was while it was under construction and rushed it’s completion. Years later in 2007 the Sydney Opera House was listed as a World Heritage site. Utzon became only the second person to have received such recognition for one of his works during his lifetime.
Obviously it's a building like no other and needed very special methods of construction and design to become a reality. The Sydney Opera House was finally completed, and opened in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II. Jørn Utzon was not invited to the ceremony, nor was his name even mentioned during any of the speeches. He was, however, to be recognized later when he was asked to design updates to the interior of the opera house. The Utzon Room, overlooking Sydney Harbour, was officially dedicated in October 2004. But his departure from this project when in construction should never have happened, do we remember the penny-pinching government staff who made it so difficult for Utzon to create his masterpiece? No. But we will never forget the architect Jørn Utzon.
For anyone visiting Sydney Australia one of the best and simplest tourist activities to do is catch the Manly ferry between Sydney Circular Quay to Manly. This trip exposes you to the beauty of Sydney Harbour, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and all sorts of other harbour features along the way. At Manly have a stroll on the harbour side or ocean side beach or have a bite to eat in the many restaurants along the Manly Corso. Best fun is feeding the fattest seagulls in the world at Manly beach.
