Traveling is my life. When I came to Africa in 2015 first and immediately fell in love with the continent, the culture and the people. I traveled South Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Botswana, Mozambique and of course as German I had to visit Namibia as well. Why, you ask? Well, Namibia was colonized by the Germans in the 19th century. I was super curious about how that aspect changed the country. Indeed, you can see the German influence almost everywhere. Hence, expect German architecture, food and language during your trip. However, the country still created its own identity and offers stunningly beautiful things to see and to explore.

Authentisch Kapana & Fleisch essen in Windhoek, Namibia • Weltreise Vlog #012
Ab nach Windhoek! Auf der Suche nach authentischen Gerichten, wie es die Leute hier in Namibia gerne essen.
Zuerst fuhren wir zu Joe's Beerhouse, in dem wir eine Art Safari-Allerei aßen. Kudu, Oryx und Springbok. Danach ging es in die Informal Area Windhoeks, zum Kapana Essen. Diese Grillstände werden in den ärmeren Gegenden der Stadt betrieben und normalerweise verirren sich keine Bleichgesichter wir wir in diese Gegend.
Alles geht etwas rustikaler zu, vom Zerteilen bis zum Grillen wird alles direkt vor Ort gemacht. Serviert wird dazu frittiertes Brot und Tomatensalsa. Einfach, aber lecker!

Namibia on the road
They call it Africa for beginners because Namibia is very easy to go around and discover the country on your own. And so we did. This video is perfect to watch if you are considering to go to Namibia, as it covers the classic itinerary in the country.
Given the Xmas holiday period we booked car plus some accommodation from Europe. Despite we travelled at the beginning of the raining period (January), the weather was great (almost always sunny and warm). We did a classic itinerary given we had only 10 days to spend. With a couple of more days, we recommend to reach Opuwo to see the Himba people. With further 3/4 days, you can add the Namibian Kahalari and the south.
DAY 1
Arrival in Windhoek. Pick up of the car, first walk in the city. Dinner at Joe Beerhouse
DAY 2
From Windhoek to Sesriem. Ca 5 hours of beautiful driving getting the first experience with Namibian gravel roads. Most road in Namibia are gravel but are relatively large and well maintained. Afternoon in Sesriem spent visiting the canyon and climbing the Elim dune.
DAY 3
Wake up at 5.30am to enter the park as it opens (6.10am). Drive the 45km to get to the Dune 45 and first breathtaking climb of the dune. Then straight to Deadvlei and Sussusvlei until around 1pm. As it is summer (up to 45C), we spent the central hours of the day sleeping near the sleeping pool of the lodge. Then short tour and beer to watch the sunset from the savannah
DAY 4
Another early wake up and we are on the way to Swakopmund. First stop is at Solitaire, to taste the apple pie which is recommended in every guidebook. Then stop at the Tropic of Capricorn. The first part of the drive is beautiful with savanna landscape. After you cross the Kuiseb pass you enter a total new landscape as you are entering the Skeleton Coast. A couple of hours of drive in the desolation, and we reach first Walvis Bay, and then Swakopmund where we spend the afternoon exploring the German soul of this city.
DAY 5
The day was spend in an excursion. In the morning we went by boat in the Walvis bay, watching seals, birds, shipwrecks ... In the afternoon, we took the 4x4 excursion to Sandwitch Harbour, a secluded bay very difficult to reach unless you are an experienced off-road driver with the right car. The place is amazing and the top moment was the lunch on the beach, eating oysters, in a beautiful and unspoiled oasis completely untouched by civilisation
DAY 6
Another day on the road (6 hours with stops). From Swakop, we headed north along the Skeleton Coast stopping at the Leila shipwreck and Cape Cross, a colony of thousands of fur seals. From there we drove to the Damaraland which we reached in the early afternoon, on time for a visit to the Twyfelfontein archaeological site (rock engravings and paintings dated between 2,000 and 6,000 years ago). A stop to the Herero women along the roads is a good spot to get some nice souvenirs.
DAY 7
On the move again, direction Etosha. But before we spent an hour at the petrified forest and getting some fuel and lunch in Khorixas. From there, the road to Etosha is paved again. We arrived in Etosha at the Okaukejo Lodge. A couple of hour to rest and we are in the bush again with the car spotting the first animals (giraffe, zebra, impala)
DAY 8
Whole day spent in the car, slowly wandering around the Etosha park. Despite the raining season (the animals are spread in the bush and the vegetation is more dense) we spotted all the key animals with the exception of the felines (esp. the lion was missing).
DAY 9
Return to Windhoek. A nice long way, with a couple of nice and clean villages to stop by to refuel and buy some food and souvenirs. Evening passed enjoying a beer in the great outdoor garden at Joe Beerhouse.
DAY 10
Visit of Windhoek. A small city, not much to see but good for spending a few hours walking around. Flight in late afternoon.

Namibia is in Southern Africa, bordering South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Zambia and the Atlantic Ocean. Namibia boasts remarkable natural attractions such as the Namib desert, the Fish River Canyon Park, Etosha National Park and the Kalahari desert. Its people speak nine different languages, including some of the Khoisan languages which include the 'clicks' that present an enigma to most native English-speakers. Namibia produces some of the world's highest quality diamonds.
Few countries in Africa can match Namibia's sheer natural beauty. The country's name derives from its (and the world's) oldest desert, the Namib, and there are few more stirring desert realms on the planet, from the sand sea and perfect dead-tree valleys at Sossusvlei to the otherworldliness of sand dunes plunging down to the sea at Sandwich Harbour and the Skeleton Coast. Inland, running through the heart of the country, a spine of mountains creates glorious scenery – the Naukluft Mountains, the Brandberg, Spitzkoppe, Damaraland and the jaw-dropping Fish River Canyon. With rivers and wetlands in the Caprivi Strip and the endless gold-grass plains of the Kalahari, it's difficult to think of an iconic African landscape that Namibia doesn't possess.
Make no mistake: Namibia is one of Southern Africa's best places to watch wildlife, at least in the country's north. Etosha National Park belongs in the elite wildlife-watching destinations – big cats, elephants, black rhinos and plains game in abundance. Two other areas are emerging as complements to Etosha. Damaraland is a wonderful place to see desert-adapted elephants and lions, and also happens to host Africa's largest population of free-ranging rhinos – rhino tracking is a real highlight here. Over in the Caprivi Strip, the wildlife is returning, with Bwabwata and Nkasa Rupara becoming wonderfully rich parks to explore. This being Namibia, there are private reserves (Okonjima and Erindi premier among them) as well as game farms that serve as havens for rescued wildlife.

Keetmanshoop -- Small town on the rail lines and highway, jumping off point for treks in the Fish River Canyon Park.
Lüderitz -- Colonial-era German coastal town.
Ondangwa and Oshakati -- Twin towns in the heart of Owamboland, northern Namibia.
Outjo -- Gateway to the Etosha National Park, Koakoveld and Damaraland.
Swakopmund -- Coastal town, a mecca for Namibians on holiday.
Tsumeb -- Mining town east of Etosha.
Tsumkwe -- rural desert town surrounded by San (Bushmen) villages.
Walvis Bay -- Desert sports.

Brandberg Mountains -- The highest mountain in Namibia at 2 573 m.

Skeleton Coast -- The northern coastal part of the Namib desert, named for the dozens of ships that were beached in the thick fog that is frequent where the desert meets the Atlantic.
Spitzkoppe -- the Matterhorn of Namibia.
Fish River Canyon Park--The second largest canyon in the world.
Opuwo-- capital of Kunene Region and an ideal starting point for stocking up before venturing further into Kaokoland and the rest of NW Kunene.
Kaokoland - home to the Himba tribe, desert elephants, desert lions, Epupa Waterfalls and many more attractions in this north-western corner of Namibia.
NamibRand Nature Reserve - The largest privately owned nature reserve on the continent and the only International Dark Sky Place on the continent as well.

A drone eye view of the Mountain View Suite. With 200 square metres of deck rising above the dunes, the Mountain View Suite provides ample living space and adds a touch of luxury to the Wolwedans Collection.
The Suite is located within walking distance from the Dunes Lodge, yet it is secluded, allowing guests to spend time in a homely and stylish atmosphere. Consisting of a spacious en-suite bedroom with a king-size bed, the Suite enables guests to enjoy the view of their private dune valley to the fullest.
