Rock Art of Twyfelfontein, Kunene (Namibia) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Rock Art of Twyfelfontein in Kunene, Namibia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
In Kunene, Namibia, lies the archaeological site of Twyfelfontein, home to large numbers of ancient rock carvings and paintings.
These handcrafted works of art depict a myriad of animals, people, mythological beings, and pictograms.
The art here is divided into two categories, where the oldest is over 6,000 years old, while even the newer parts are at least 2,000 years old.
The people who carved the Twyfelfontein rock art used these carvings for worship and for ritual practices.
There are literally thousands of different carvings and paintings within a space of less than half a mile.
Though some of the sites are guarded for their protection, visitors can come to admire the ancient stonework of Twyfelfontein.

Namibia 2016: The Twyfelfontein Petroglyphs
One of the unique sights in Damaraland arthe petroglyphs of Twyfelfontein. A 35 min drive from the Doro Nawas Lodge through spectacular desert landscapes brought us to a place which is World renown for being the finest rock petroglyphs in Africa. Scattered among the shattered red boulders and rocks on the side of a steep hill are over 2000 rock engravings and paintings dating back 6000 years. Painted by shamen, who in a trance, would transcend into the animals they hunted, painting/carving them in a surrealistic manner. As such, they ‘became’ the animals. The climb to see these things was clearly not for the faint-hearted nor for those whose health or eye sight is not the best. Thus, it was by default that the old mountain goat (yours truly 69 years old) was to accompany Will (our 28 year old guide) up the crumbling and difficult pathways and steps to reach the best of the rock art. I have to say it was a stunning experience…. I was chuffed that I not only kept up with the youngster but at times was ahead of him – even when he got us lost on a rock face! In the evening light the petroglyphs were picked out in soft reds and oranges. All alone up there, you could almost feel a shaman’s whisper on the soft evening breeze…..
Just a lovely way to spend a winter’s afternoon in Damaraland.
Namibia - Gariganus Farm
The Gariganus Farm in Namibia offers some interesting attractions. That's the Quivertree Forest (Afrikaans: Kokerboom Woud) and Giant's Playground, some impressive rock formations.
Enjoy.

We stopped at Etosha National Park while we headed to Rundu from Windhoek. I checked the luggage at the entrance of the national park. There are a lot of tourists who drones and it is to keep the safety of wild animals. After checking the luggage, he enters the national park. Everyone was excited to experience an African safari tour that I had dreamed of. It was the 'springbok' crowd that greeted me for the first time. Soon the 'Yellow-billed Hornbill' is also seen. And it was time to show 'Nu'. It makes me realize that I am going to Africa in a healthy way. The National Park has a place where animals can be observed easily in the accommodation. It is 'Water Hall'. It is an artificially created place where animals can drink water. very good. It is so nice to see a variety of natural environments and animals. It's a really big park. When I saw the giraffe family, I wanted to see the elephant. When is the elephant coming? It's about 2 or 3 o'clock because it comes here to eat the water. Then a tourist who found something is approaching. Look. It's an elephant. Where? That way. Look. I said I would come. I see an elephant approaching far away. People gather to see elephants. I gave up after 2 or 3 hours, but I'm lucky. You can see this stone as a fence. The elephant is not going to tread on this stony stones. The elephants quietly watch to avoid interfering with the water. I did not like to wash as a child, but I also like young elephants. Eventually, the mother elephant pushes her ass to wash. Where can I see this sight? I've been to Africa a few times and it's really good to have it in my hand. I get cooler when I see a shower with a cool water stream in my nose.
