The World's Most Interesting People?
Today I spent 3 hours, alone, with the nomadic Himba Tribe of Northern Namibia. I think they are the world's most interesting people.
The Himbas 'initiated' me into their tribe, by splatting my face with their red clay, teaching me how to do their traditional dance and plenty more which you will see in this video.
By the end of the day, they invited me to sleep in their huts with them, but I respectfully (and regretfully) declined (because I have a 5AM wake up tomorrow morning, and I don't have a big jacket as it gets freezing overnight).
I've made over 400 videos now, and this is my favorite one yet by a long shot. As you probably know, I love going to far away places, interacting unique groups of people and find ways to connect with them. It was a completely surreal, out-of-body experience, that I am so excited to share with you. Hope you enjoy!

Namibia Travel Guide - Experience Marvelous Namibia
Namibia Travel Guide - Experience Marvelous Namibia
Namibia is in Southern Africa, bordering South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Zambia and the Atlantic Ocean. Namibia boasts remarkable natural attractions such as the Namib desert, the Fish River Canyon Park, Etosha National Park and the Kalahari desert. Its people speak nine different languages, including some of the Khoisan languages which include the 'clicks' that present an enigma to most native English-speakers. Namibia produces some of the world's highest quality diamonds.
Few countries in Africa can match Namibia's sheer natural beauty. The country's name derives from its (and the world's) oldest desert, the Namib, and there are few more stirring desert realms on the planet, from the sand sea and perfect dead-tree valleys at Sossusvlei to the otherworldliness of sand dunes plunging down to the sea at Sandwich Harbour and the Skeleton Coast. Inland, running through the heart of the country, a spine of mountains creates glorious scenery – the Naukluft Mountains, the Brandberg, Spitzkoppe, Damaraland and the jaw-dropping Fish River Canyon. With rivers and wetlands in the Caprivi Strip and the endless gold-grass plains of the Kalahari, it's difficult to think of an iconic African landscape that Namibia doesn't possess.
Make no mistake: Namibia is one of Southern Africa's best places to watch wildlife, at least in the country's north. Etosha National Park belongs in the elite wildlife-watching destinations – big cats, elephants, black rhinos and plains game in abundance. Two other areas are emerging as complements to Etosha. Damaraland is a wonderful place to see desert-adapted elephants and lions, and also happens to host Africa's largest population of free-ranging rhinos – rhino tracking is a real highlight here. Over in the Caprivi Strip, the wildlife is returning, with Bwabwata and Nkasa Rupara becoming wonderfully rich parks to explore. This being Namibia, there are private reserves (Okonjima and Erindi premier among them) as well as game farms that serve as havens for rescued wildlife.

Travel Namibia - Meeting the Himba Tribe
What happens when a traveler encounters the Himba tribe in Namibia?
Earlier this year, Sussan Mourad travelled with the World Nomads film crew to explore Namibia.
The highlight of the trip was the day spent visiting a nomadic Himba tribe deep in the heart of Namibia. While apprehensive at first, Sussan managed to connect with the women of the tribe despite language and cultural barriers.
After speaking extensively about the Himba women's unique beauty regime of applying ochre and fat to their skin, Sussan asks if she too can try out the treatment.
Watch as Sussan is transformed from traveller to tribal woman -- and see how the women of the tribe react to her new look.
*Note: Being invited into a Himba village and being dressed like a Himba woman is not a common occurrence in Namibia and certainly is not a tourist attraction.

Video Details
This adventure continues our 4WD in NW Namibia. In this episode, Ben and I, are going to continue to show you how to explore Namibia independently.
Day 10 starts out from the Sesfontein Lodge. We’re off to Opuwo because there's no diesel here. It's an easy 123km drive to Opuwo on an actual gravel road. Luxurious compared to our last few days of driving.
Opuwo is a crossroad of local cultures.
The only highlight on this stretch of road is the Swatbooisdrif Memorial
commutating South Africans that went to Angola for a better life, but were eventually kicked out in the 1920's.
Ben starts his daily search for a remote and free campsite.
Our camp for the night. We’re camped on the Kunene. It comes with a fresh alligator swimming pool.
End of day 10
The next day we get free push service.
Curbside street vendors.
When we have to stop for a nature call we discover that there are no isolated spots along this stretch of river.
From the Kunene riverside free camp we followed the new dirt road
NW to Epupa village. Where I insisted that we stay at an upscale US$ 10 pp campsite. The riverside view of the world famous Epupa Falls was a good reason to stay. But more importantly, it was for the luxurious swimming pool.
After an easy night we exited luxury and started our drive south towards Okongwati village. We then left the dirt road and started on a difficult 4WD track that would take us into the most remote parts of Namibia for over a week.
Every time the locals saw us coming they would run out to meet us. We were potential customers, entertainment, or charity.

Namibia - A Lone Backpacking Trip
An amazing journey and fantastic people. What you can see here, is only a small part of over 14 hours of footage I shot during my second trip to Namibia. Traveling alone with a backpack and tent gives me that immense feeling of freedom and makes contact with other people more personal.
I hope that you enjoy the clip and thanks for watching.

P.S.
At the beginning I say something about sunny weather, at the end that it's time to eat something and maybe even to find some water to wash :)
