Crete Island ~ Best Places to Visit in Greece 2018
This video and slideshow with Greek background music presents the best places in Crete, the largest Greek island in the Mediterranean Sea. Our selection consists of beautiful beaches, mountains, cities, landscapes, historical sites and other places of interest satisfying the needs of holidaymakers of all ages. Special thanks to Magnus Ringblom, the composer and performer of the wonderful music I have used. I have just returned from Crete, the island was the centre of Europe's first advanced civilization, the Minoan (c. 2700–1420 BC). Besides the legendary historical places, Crete offers you a wide variety of beaches, such as the best-known turquoise lagoon of Elafonissi, or a wonderful 6-hour walk tour in the famous Samaria gorge. Some of the new all-inclusive 5* hotels give you some new options for your stay.
Greece is known for its hospitality, Crete island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Visitors can reach the island via international airport of Chania and Heraklion, or by boat to the main ports of Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. The ferry route takes 8-9 hours from Athens (Piraeus).

Nisyros, with fewer than 1000 permanent inhabitants, is famous for having the only 'active' volcano in Greece together with Santorini. 11. Corfu Town
Corfu, known also as Kerkyra, is the northernmost of the Ionian Islands in Greece. Corfu Town is the largest and most important town on the island. Camping is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from home in a shelter, such as a tent or a caravan.Generally participants leave developed areas to spend time outdoors in nature in pursuit of activities providing them enjoyment. Camping can be enjoyed through all four seasons.
Modern campers frequent natural parks, beaches, wilderness areas, and commercial campgrounds. Camping is a key part of many youth organizations around the world, such as Scouting, which use it to teach both self-reliance and teamwork.
All beaches, seas, mountains, forests, rivers, of this world belong to all of us the mankind. The goal is to teach each other the Love, the Respect and Protection of Nature. For freely travelling with our favorite people, our best friends and our lovers, protecting and cleaning the forests and beaches, enjoying life sometimes without clothing…
GUIDE for free and responsible Camping:
How do we coexist harmoniously with other campers, local residents and nature itself? It is important for campers to learn living together by following, at least, some common rules and habits: We park our cars & bikes away from the beach and we do not obstruct the access to public. We use bags for rubbish, including tissues as animals dig them out. We gather all our rubbish and any extra we find. Wear a plastic bag in your hand in order to make the process less uncomfortable. Determine where the “toilet” is and dig holes at least 30 cm each time or cover them with sand or soil. Instead of toilet paper we use water from the sea in a plastic bottle. We avoid the use of any shampoo and soap, in the water because they pollute the sea, lake or river. We are ready to understand the specific circumstances of the place where we are and to protect it with our presence. We respect the flora and fauna of the region according to the natural conditions. For example, in areas where the sea turtles lay their eggs, the fire can disorient them and their new born, or in areas of dense vegetation fire is very dangerous and forbidden. We have the tent several meters from the waves so we do not obstruct the other campers but mainly not to disturb crabs, turtles, birds. The insects are the residents of the area, we are the guests. We avoid insects with natural repellents, and by keeping the tent zipped closed all day. We do not consider the spot we are staying in as our property, we do not create conditions for permanent settlement. We offer, share, meet each other and create, to the desired extent, conditions of collective living with the other campers. Leave the forest or the beach as found, and if possible, much better.

Greek Caribbean: Nisiotissa beach, Euboea island | Travel Guide
One kilometer west of the village Neos Pyrgos in northern Evia island there is a beautiful beach named 'Nisiotissa'. On a small rocky islet named 'Monastiri', a few meters from the seashore lie the remains of a small medieval construction.
It is certainly from the Frankish period (13th or 14th century) but its purpose is not known exactly. From the position one could assume it was a watchtower but there are indications it was just a mill or perhaps a Frankish chapel.
Unique beauty, incredible view, emerald waters and a beach that will remain unforgettable, is what you will experience when you visit the beach at Nisiotissa. It is one of the most impressive beaches in North Evia with a view of the island and ruins of an ancient tower at its highest point. The beach is a point of interest for many visitors. One thing is certain, those who visit this beach will come back again.

A large marble statue of a bull from a funerary monument of the 4th century B.C. was raised from the harbour of Oreoi in 1965, and is exhibited in the town.

Some of the best beaches in Greece! 720p/HD
Greece has more than 16,000 kilometers (9,320 miles) of coastline, 200,000 beaches, 6,000 islands (and islets). Greece's coastline is by far the longest coastline in the Mediterranean sea, and the tenth longest in the world. The deepest point in the Mediterranean Sea is called the Calypso Deep, it is located in the Ionian Sea in Greece, and is 5,267 meters deep (17,280 feet).

The quality of coastal bathing waters in Greece is systematically monitored since 1988 (according to Directive 76/160/EEC), and since then Greece has been receiving excellent reports on it's bathing water sites, with more than 95% of them meeting the most stringent guide values (excellent quality). According to the 2012 European bathing water quality report of the European Environment Agency, Greece and Cyprus have the cleanest coastal bathing waters in Europe.

Regardless of your location in Greece, a beach won't be far away. Beaches in Greece have a serene, peaceful atmosphere. Most beaches have shallow, calm, crystal clear waters that make them ideal for young children and families. Due to the country's peninsular shape, big waves do not usually reach the beaches, except those that are exposed to the open ocean, which are mostly preferred by windsurfers. Apart from the long wide sandy beaches, and those lined with pine (in the North), or palm (in Crete) trees and lush green grass in the north, there are many small rocky, pebbly inlets, perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. There are also numerous remote beaches that are only accessible by boat, and other secluded naturalist beaches lining the coasts of Greece, where nudism is quite prevalent.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conditions in various beach destinations in the world can differ greatly. During the tourist season, Tropical Weather (in contrast to Mediterranean Weather), can produce unpleasant atmospheric conditions like: Sudden storms, monsoons, floods, clouds, extreme humidity and precipitation, unpleasantly warm sea temperature, dangerous strong ocean rip currents that can pull swimmers away from the shore without them even noticing and huge waves that can cause sea water to lose its clarity and become foamy, murky and dirty. Moreover, due to vast presence of algae, low salinity/iodine levels, excessive bacterial and micro-organic activity (which can be highly pathogenic), the sea color in the Tropical Zones can obtain a repulsive, slimy green color. In contrast to the Tropics, Greek summer is always hot, calm, sunny, cloudless and dry and the Greek sea is blue, clear and a lot safer, not only health-wise but also due to the fact that encounters with dangerous/venomous sea creatures and organisms is extremely rare in Greece, as such species are not endemic to the Mediterranean region. (There is only one anecdotal tale of a fatal shark attack in the Greek islands, and that was reported nearly a century ago).
