Artesanias de Colombia: Incredible Art in Bogota
Artesanias de Colombia– Bogota hosts numerous talented artists and craftsmen, however Lisa Niver, We Said Go Travel, was fascinated by one, in particular. Local artist Maria Iris has an amazing talent for basket weaving. It is tradition that men harvest the palm and the women weave it into baskets. However, basket weaving itself is a tradition in patience, taking a month to create a small (absolutely perfect) basket. Many of these artists have studios in the T Zone, a popular shopping district.

LONG LIFE FOOD in Hunza Valley - HEAVEN ON EARTH, Pakistan | Pakistani Food Tour!

Thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market):
I want to say a massive thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market): Without him, this entire trip wouldn’t have been possible.
Also, thank you to Hunza Serena Inn ( for sponsoring our stay in Hunza Valley.
The goal of today’s food tour was to uncover some of the secrets of the long life food of Hunza Valley. Especially traditionally, people were known to live very long and healthy lives - a combination of eating seasonally, lots of nuts, and apricots, and fresh mountain air - we also discovered a few dishes that must have led to long life.
But we began our day in Gilgit, and first thing at daybreak, we drove about 20 minutes outside of Gilgit to start our morning from a strategic viewpoint. There’s a confluence where three of the highest mountain ranges in the world - Himalayas (Mount Everest), Karakorams (K2), and Hindu Kush, mountains come together. It’s a magical place, and we were literally the only people there.
We then headed back to Serena Gilgit Hotel for breakfast before starting our day to Hunza Valley. The drive was spectacular from start to finish - you will literally feel your jaw dropping as you drive and you almost cannot believe the scenery will possibly get better… and it does.
Chapshoro Point - Along the Karakoram Highway from Gilgit to Hunza Valley one of the most famous foods is chapshoro, a meat filled dough pocket. It’s a great tea snack - and we’d be having a few more of these today.
Total price - 900 PKR ($6.74)
Hunza Valley - We arrived to Hunza Valley and immediately checked in to Hunza Serena Inn, with an almost unbelievable view from our patio.
Baltit Fort - We quickly hiked up to Baltit Fort, a spectacular and iconic fort within Hunza Valley and then walked down for a quick bite to eat.
Hunza Food Pavilion - Just a small little cosy restaurant, yet so inviting and so many good aromas coming out of the kitchen. We ordered chapshoro again, and daodo soup, both of which were amazing.
Total price - 630 PKR ($4.72)
Osho Maraka - Hunza Serena Inn - We then headed back to the hotel where they wanted to prepare a local Hunza Valley food lunch for us. The food was good, a little on the plain side for me, but very fresh and local ingredients.
Eagles Nest - Next we drove up one of the main mountains of Hunza Valley for the view. Although we were late for the sunset, the view was still spectacular.
Traditional Hunza Valley food - In the evening is when the real authentic Hunza Valley food and cultural learning began. We were invited (thanks to the Gilgit Baltistan tourism ministry for setting it up) to a 400 year old home for a time of music and local Hunza Valley food. The old home was beautiful, and they immediately started playing amazing local music. The food was authentic and local - lots of whole grains, walnuts and almonds, and plenty of apricot oil. One of the dishes, a tortilla like bread filled with walnut paste and apricot oil was one of the secret dishes of longevity - so I was told! Whatever the case, the food, people, and experience, was outstanding.
By this time I have to stay I was tired, cold, and ready to go back to the hotel to sleep, but they said, we need to stop at one more place.
It was completely dark, and looked abandoned.
But we stepped inside a home, and there were at least 20 people huddled in the house, waiting for us.
I was blown away and humbled.
They made us tea and a few local pancake like snacks. It was beyond special.
Thank you to everyone involved, and to the families for their amazing hospitality and kindness. Another absolutely incredible day of food and people in Pakistan.

Landing Avianca at Airport Bogota Colombia (BOG):
AVIANCA:
Avianca S.A. (acronym in Spanish for Aerovias del Continente Americano S.A., Airways of the American Continent) is a Colombian airline. It has been the national airline and flag carrier of Colombia[3][4] since 5 December 1919, when it was initially registered under the name SCADTA.[5][6] It is headquartered in Bogotá, D.C. with its main hub at El Dorado International Airport. Avianca is the flagship of a group of eight Latin American airlines, whose operations are combined to function as one airline using a codesharing system. Avianca is the largest airline in Colombia and second largest in Latin America, after LATAM of Brazil-Chile. Avianca and its subsidiaries have the most extensive network of destinations in Latin America.[7] It is wholly owned by Synergy Group S.A., a South American holding company established by Germán Efromovich and specialising in air transport. It is listed on the Colombia Stock Exchange.[8]
Through SCADTA, Avianca is the world's second oldest airline after KLM, and celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2009, when it was announced that it would merge with TACA. It is the oldest airline in the Western Hemisphere.[9] It became an official member of Star Alliance on 21 June 2012, after a process that lasted approximately 18 months from the initial announcement[10] of its invitation to join the Alliance.[11]
BOGOTA AIRPORT:
El Dorado International Airport (IATA: BOG, ICAO: SKBO) is an international airport serving Bogotá, Colombia and its surrounding areas. The airport is located mostly in the Fontibón district of Bogotá, although it partially extends into the Engativá district and the municipality of Funza in the Western Savanna Province of the Cundinamarca Department. In 2017, it served almost 31,000,000 passengers, 770,000 metric tons of cargo, and 304,330 aircraft movements. This makes El Dorado the third busiest airport in Latin America in terms of passenger traffic, the second busiest in terms of aircraft movements, and the busiest in terms of cargo. El Dorado is also by far the busiest and most important airport in Colombia, accounting for just under half (49%) of the country's air traffic.
El Dorado is a hub for the Colombian flag-carrier Avianca, LATAM Colombia, Satena, Wingo, and a number of cargo companies. It is owned by the Government of Colombia and operated by Operadora Aeroportuaria Internacional (OPAIN), a consortium composed of Colombian construction and engineering firms and the Swiss company Flughafen Zürich AG, the company that operates Zurich International Airport. The airport has been named the best airport in South America by World Airport Awards.[1] El Dorado received four-star certification and its staff was rated the best in South America by Skytrax,[2] as well as achieving 42nd place in Skytrax's World's Top 100 Airports in 2017.[3]

This was last day in Lejanías, Meta, a very enriching experience, full of life and adventure, but the most important full of people with a giant heart. We woke up with a sad feeling because our trip was almost at the end. This day was to enjoy of the farm El Diamante and of the Ospina García family. We were pleasantly impacted by the heart of this people. We enjoyed the morning and the countryside and we profited to rest and to understand their job. Before departing we met another marvel of Lejanías: the sulfuric waters that sprout from the mountain. In the farm El Paraíso we met a really nice family who truly lives at the paradise. After an amazing day we said goodbye to what we consider one of the most beautiful places of Colombia.
