Best Places to Visit in Uruguay
Best Places to Visit in Uruguay
Bordered by Argentina and Brazil, the tiny country of Uruguay is often overlooked by those heading to its bigger neighbors. Uruguay is a country you cannot afford to skip from your Latin America itinerary. It has so much to offer, whether it’s surfing beaches, good wine, stunning scenery, delicious steaks and of course marijuana.
Cross its borders and the reward will be endless delights, from glamorous coastline to ranch-peppered interiors where wild lands, gaucho culture, and local folklore lives on. It was one of the first on the continent to allow gay marriages, legalise abortions in 2012 and established a welfare state in 1903.
And of course, the marijuana which it’s so famous for since December 2013, Uruguay legalised the cultivation, sale, and consumption of marijuana for recreational use.

A day in Montevideo Uruguay! | 80+ Countries w/3 kids
Join us as we reminisce about our past trip through one of South America’s favorite destinations, Montevideo Uruguay!
Montevideo, the capital and the largest city of Uruguay, might as well be called The City of Football, as it hosted all of the matches during the first FIFA World Cup back in 1930. At the same time, this city has been consistently rated as having the highest quality of life in Latin America, so why wouldn’t you pay it a visit?
The first thing you should see in this colorful town is the Rambla, the extensive promenade with numerous parks by the Río de la Plata. However, if you would like to make some beautiful pictures and see how Montevideo looks like from above, go to the free observation deck in the Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo.
Montevideo's Old Town - Ciudad Vieja, Plaza de Independencia, Palacio Salvo, Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales, Museo del Gaucho and Teatro Solís are waiting for curious travelers to explore them.
Enjoy the video and let us know where you're watching from!

WINTER IN URUGUAY
In winter days turn pale
To drink every drop of sun becomes a matter of survival
In winter we look for adventure
The wind and sea roar and a home-made dish gathers families.
In winter we love fire, to tell stories and to shorten long nights with the warmth of our beloved ones.
In winter we think of a calm Uruguay.
Intimate and cordial because we know that as any other season, we enjoy it all year round.
Uruguay: Expat Haven: Riverside Tour of Mercedes - International Living
Expat Haven: Riverside Tour of Mercedes, Uruguay - International Living
Get your free report on Uruguay here:
The small city of Mercedes is jewel that remains hidden away in Uruguay's interior...about 3.5 hours from the international airport in Montevideo.
While most of Uruguay is famous for its wide beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, Mercedes—sitting on the banks of the Rio Negro—enjoys one of the country's nicest riverfront settings.
The waterfront here is all parkland, including a number of small, sandy beaches. You'll also find one of Uruguay's signature rowing clubs, a great waterside restaurant, and plenty of space to relax and spend the day.
Two wide, parallel, riverfront roadways—called a Rambla in Uruguay—run between the first homes and the river. In the evenings, the road closest to the water fills with antique cars and motorcycles, cruising up and down its length as if it were a parade.
While Mercedes has a beautiful town square, I find that in the summertime months, it's the waterfront that's the real social center of the city.
Mercedes has low crime, abundant fresh water, and pure air...along with a constant and plentiful renewable electricity supply. And it's located in a country with a moderate climate, stable government, and a solid-yet-confidential banking system.
It's no wonder that it's drawing the attention of an increasing number of expats.
