Family resort review in Lake Tahoe | Grand Residences by Marriott
We made a short visit to South Lake Tahoe summer of 2017 and stayed at one of the Marriott properties at the Heavenly mountain resort. The location was perfect for families as it was close to restaurants, a large grocery, the gondola and the lake. We also found it to be very child friendly with the nearby family activity zone, mini golf and a movie theatre.
We booked a one bedroom residence that was about 750 sq. ft. It had a king bedroom connected to another room with a kitchen, a large living area with a sofa bed and two full bathrooms. Fantastic space for a family with 3 energetic kids or for big groups. We also had access to the Marriott Timber lodge. That hotel had an indoor children's activity centre with books, a playhouse and a mini rock climbing wall. A separate space was also available for older kids.
After a full day exploring Tahoe and spending time at the lake, it was nice to come back to the beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub. Great way to spend a summer evening.

As you enter the main floor with its rich cherry wood and granite floors, and stone fireplace, you instantly feel relaxation coming on. The gourmet kitchen is in sight with its gorgeous granite counters and cherry cabinets filled with all the tools you need for preparing a snack or feast. Dine in the casual lake view nook that seats 6 or enjoy the ambiance of the fireplace in the dining room that seats 10. Or, eat out on the balcony while smelling the aroma of the sugar pines. The granite powder room and laundry room complete this floor.
Up the central peeled-pine staircase is the King Master Suite with its balcony for fresh mountain air or another fireplace for warmth. There is nothing like relaxing in the jetted tub for two while viewing the lake through the trees, especially when it is snowing. Heavenly! A pulsating and refreshing granite shower awaits those who prefer a quick cleanse. At the end of the hall, is another Queen Suite with tub and shower. Next door is the library/office where you will find a variety of books and magazines for your enjoyment and inspiration. You can use the Sony desktop computer or connect to the secure Wi-Fi with our house code.
At the crest of 2nd stairway is the up-to-the-minute media/game room. Designed for comfort and a cozy feel, watching movies with Surround Sound and HDTV becomes addictive while the fire is glowing. There is perfect viewing from the plush sofa or game/poker table. An extraordinary Chess Table awaits competitive players. Another Queen Suite is adjacent with tumbled marble shower. One more Powder Bath, Bar area and laundry completes this floor.
Feel the smooth timber rails as you head downstairs to the family room. The Pool Table (also Ping-Pong) is the focal point but anchored by yet another stone fireplace. This Bar has 2 refrigerators, one is climate controlled for wine. TV/DVD and Video Poker Machine are for inside play or step out the French doors to the Hot Springs Tub or to the heat of the separate cedar sauna. The 2 Suites, each with their French door to access the outside, flank the family room. King Suite has Shower and Queen Suite has jetted tub and shower.
