On Day 11 in South Korea, we visited Iksan, and then for dinner I was introduced to Jeonju Makgeolli, which is a type of rice wine and in Jeonju they take it to the next level, accompanied by a massive mind-blowing delicious meal.

00:38 Mireuksa Temple Site - For our first stop of the day, we headed to Mireuksa Temple Site, which is an ancient Korean temple site located in Iksan. Much of the original temple and area has been destroyed, but efforts are being made to restore and renovate it.
2:36 Rack-Si-Ru Restaurant - For lunch we drove into Iksan city and went to a restaurant called Rack-Si-Ru Restaurant, known for serving Korean style salted grilled fish (we also ate this same type of grilled fish in Seoul). The meal was excellent, especially because the fish was served with all the different side dishes. Price - 8,000 Won ($6.83) per person
6:05 Special Forces - 30,000 Won ($25.60) for 2 - Our next activity of the day we drove over to the Special Forces arena, and got all geared up in combat gear and had a match against a random team. It was pretty fun, and a lot of good exercise running around.
7:56 Daedunsan Provincial Park (대둔산도립공원) - We then took a drive over to Daedunsan Provincial Park (대둔산도립공원), which is yet another beautiful mountain park in Jeonbuk province. Although I would have loved to go hiking, we didn’t have too much time, so we took the Cable Car - 9,000 Won ($7.68) round trip, to the top of the mountain for a nice view and then back down again.
9:50 Yetchon Makgeolli (막걸리) - Makgeolli (막걸리) is a type of Korean rice wine, and while you can get it all over Korean, Jeonju Makgeolli (막걸리) takes thing to the next level. Yetchon Makgeolli is a famous restaurant that specializes in makgeolli, and when you order a kettle full of it, it comes with and unbelievable selection of Korean dishes. And when you order more makgeolli, they give you more and more food. We literally had a double decker layer of food on our table when we were eating. And these were just like simple Korean dishes, these were some of the most amazing Korean dishes I had during my trip to Jeonju. The loud ambiance of the restaurant, the makgeolli, and all the food made it a truly memorable Korean food experience. Total price - 65,000 Won ($55.46) for everything.

Iksan (Korean: 익산; Korean pronunciation: [ik.s͈an]) is a city and major railway junction in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The railway junction is located at the point where Jeolla, Janghang and Gunsan Lines meet the Honam Line. It now services KTX and Saemaul trains as well as frequent bus lines.
Jeonbuk National University Iksan campus (before, it was Iksan National College), the Won Buddhism Graduate School, Wonkwang Health Science College, and Wonkwang University are all located in Iksan. This city is called “The City of Jewelry. The Iksan Jewelry Museum opened in May 2002 next to a Dinosaur museum. -

너무나 푸르러서 너무나 빛이 나서 반짝반짝 눈이 부신 날들. 우리는 그 시절을 청춘이라고 부릅니다. 이곳도 있었습니다. 그런 새파란 청춘이었을 때가. 익산의 모든 이야기는 익산역에서부터 시작됩니다. 그럴 수밖에 없는 게 익산역은 호남선, 전라선, 장항선이 지나는 철도 교통의 집합지이거든요. 여기가 익산역이 맞죠? 네, 익산역이 맞습니다. 제가 오랜만에 덜컹거리는 기차에 몸을 싣고 왔더니 두근거리는 마음이 생겼어요. 익산역은 일제강점기부터 호남 철도 교통의 요충지였거든요. 안타까운 사고가 1977년 11월 11일 이리(익산)역 폭발사고가 있었어요. 이리(익산)역 폭발사고는 안타까운 사고였지만 한편으로는 익산의 부흥기를 이끄는 계기가 됐었죠. 부흥의 익산. 그 중에서도 가장 중심이었던 곳을 꼽으라면 익산역 앞 중앙시장 거리입니다. 옛날 어르신들 말씀으로 이 거리를 영정통이라고 불렀다고 하네요. 무척이나 환하고 화려해서 꽃밭이라는 의미의 영정이라고 불렸던 이 거리. 이 영정통이 발전하게 된 건 일제강점기 작은 마을 솜리에 역이 들어오면서부터입니다. 그렇게 일본인들이 들어오고 일본 상권이 형성되며 서서히 도시로 성장하게 된 솜리. 그 솜리가 지금의 익산인거죠. 진짜 시장은 그런 재미가 있는 것 같아요. 이쪽도 둘러보고 저쪽도 둘러보고 눈이 재미있잖아요. 물론 지금도 발길이 끊이지 않지만 한 때 이곳은 작은 명동이라고 불렸을 정도로 또, 낮에는 10만, 밤에는 6만이라는 말이 있었을 정도로 붐볐는데요. 벌기는 많이 벌었어요. 저 뿐 아니라 오래 장사하신 분들은 많이 벌었죠. 그간 후유증이 너무 길다보니 힘들어서 그렇지. 앞으로도 희망을 가지고 살지만 힘들기는 마찬가지예요. 옛날이 그리우시겠어요. 지금은 아쉽지만 상상만, 기대만 하고 (있죠.) 어서 그런 날이 오기를 바라는 마음으로 살지 않을까 생각합니다. 영원할 것만 같은 청춘이었는데 어느 새 흰 머리가 희끗희끗 돋아나는 나이가 됐습니다.

We spent 110 days exploring Asia from October 2013 to January 2014. We vlogged the entire trip but we never edited it. Right now, three years later, we're finally going through each vlog.

0:17 - Gyeongbokgung Palace is way bigger than we thought. While we were exploring it, we felt like it would never end.
2:48 - Bukchon Hanok Village is a cute village of old school small houses with cool roofs. We noticed a lot of home-stays in this neighborhood and we'd love to come back in the future and stay here.
3:24 - Insadong is a fun and lively part of town with lots of shops and a ton of people. We ate some good food here and really enjoyed the people watching.
4:40 - Cheonggyecheon is a unique park below street level with a stream, waterfalls, and beautiful landscaping. It's a wonderful escape from the city and a great place to relax.

South Korea Drone Flight: South Korea, an East Asian nation on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, shares one of the worlds most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. To the north lies the DMZ buffer zone where visitors can peer into North Korea. In the south, the city of Busan is known for the high-rise-lined Haeundae Beach and mountainside Beomeosa Temple. 함라산을 두르고 계절과 함께 초록이 짙어가는 익산시 웅포면. 금강과 맞닿아 있는 봉화산 자락에 녹차를 만날 수 있는 숨은 명소가 있다는데요. 아니나 다를까 녹차 향기 따라 먼저 도착해 있는 부지런한 손길들이 있습니다. 아니 지금 서 있기조차 힘든데 익산에 이렇게 넓은 녹차밭이 있었어요? 이곳이 익산시 웅포면 입점리 거든요. 우리나라에서 최북단 녹파밭이라고 굉장히 유명한 곳입니다. 따뜻하고 비가 충분한 곳을 좋아하는 녹차. 몇 년 전만 해도 녹차의 재배 한계선은 전북 김제, 정읍으로 알려져 있었는데요. 2009년 익산 웅포면에 자생 녹차밭이 알려지면서 그 한계선이 끌어 올려 졌습니다. 창처럼 뾰족한 모양의 싹을 중심으로 잎이 하나 난 것이 일창일기. 잎이 두 개 더 나 있으면 일창이기 라고 불리는데요. 가장 좋은 맛을 내는 잎이라고 합니다. 잎의 모양을 천천히 살펴봐야 하기 때문에 속도를 내기가 생각보다 쉽지 않더라고요. 아니 그런데 지금 녹차가 수확할 시기인가요? 녹차의 수확 시기는 4월 말부터 6월까지 해요. 처음 나온 싹, 아까 일창일기, 일창이기 따셨죠? 그 찻잎을 따서 만든 차가 우전 또는 첫물차라고 합니다. 여기에 아리따운 여성분이. 안녕하세요? 한국 분이 아니시죠? 어디서 왔어요? 중국에서 왔어요. 한국과 중국, 일본의 차 문화는 조금씩 다른데 한국의 차 문화를 배우러 왔어요. 이곳에서 친구들과 차도 마시고 하면서 한국 차에 대해서 이해하게 됐습니다. 꼬박 반나절을 차밭에서 보내고서야 한 바구니를 가득 채울 수 있었는데요. 녹차를 만나기 위한 본격적인 과정은 이제 시작이라네요.
