Exotic Korean Seafood in Gunsan, South Korea! (Day 8)
On Day 8 in South Korea, we took a day trip from Jeonju to a city called Gunsan, and had some of the most exotic seafood that I’ve ever had in my life.
00:53 Jungdong Hotteok (중동 호떡) - 900 Won ($0.77) and railroad track walked through - The drive from Jeonju to Gunsan took about an hour and as soon as we arrived we started off with a small snack of a Korean hotteok, and then we continued onto the old railroad track. There’s not really much to do on the railroad truck, but just walk around for a little while.
2:29 Champon at Boksongru (복성루) Restaurant - One of the greatest indicators of good food is long lines of people, and even in a small little town like Gunsan, on a weekday and earlier than the normal lunch rush, Boksongru (복성루) already had a line and was packed. It took about 30 minutes or so, and we were let into the restaurant, which is famous throughout South Korea for serving a dish called champon (짬뽕), which is noodles and in this case, stacked with a heap of seafood. Each bowl of champon cost 8,000 Won ($6.86) and it was one of the greatest bowls of seafood noodles I’ve ever had. I would highly recommend it. It was well worth the wait.
7:09 Gunsan Attractions - Gunsan attracts quite a few Korean tourists, and so there are plenty of museums to walk around. We visited the old town of Gunsan and walked around some of the museum, and the old Japanese houses and temples.
9:56 Angela Flour Based Food - Within Gunsan town, we navigated our way to a small restaurant within a local market called Angela Flour Based Food. The restaurant is famous for selling a variety of different Korean street food snacks including japchae, tteokbokki and a fish soup. The japchae was a little sweet for me, but the mixture of ingredients was pretty good.
Lee Sung Dang (이성당) Bakery - Another one of the most famous attractions in Gunsan is the Lee Sung Dang (이성당) Bakery, which attracts just about everyone who ever visits Gunsan. We picked up a couple baked goods and they were pretty good.
12:35 Exotic Korean Seafood Meal at Saemangeum Fish Market - Korea is literally a seafood paradise for anyone who loves seafood, and they take freshness to another level in South Korea. At the Saemangeum Fish Market in Gunsan, they have tanks full of fish and you can choose the different types of seafood you like, and they will prepare them right then and there, right from the tank. You then can either take away your seafood, or go upstairs to one of the restaurants on the upstairs level where you can eat. There were quite a few different types of exotic Korean seafoods that I ate for the first time including a sea pineapple, something called a urechis unicinctus (spoon worm, yes, also known as a penis fish). It was honestly one of the most memorable and exoti seafood meals I’ve ever eaten.
Visiting Gunsan on Day 8 in South Korea was an amazing trip, and both the champon seafood noodles and the exotic Korean seafood meal were incredible.

Amazing Korean Food and Attractions in Seoul! (Day 2)
Dongdaemun Grilled Fish Street►
Seoul Travel Guide here►
Day 2 on Seoul turned out to be a great one full day tour of Seoul. We started by visiting a few of the most famous Seoul attractions, had an incredible lunch, and then continued on to visit more attractions and ended with an amazing Korean grilled fish dinner.
00:51 Deoksugung Palace; 1,000 Won ($0.84); City Hall Station, Exit 2. For our first stop for the day, we took the Metro to Deoksugung Palace, which is one of the number of famous Royal palaces in Seoul. It was a nice place to walk around, still pretty quiet in the morning when we got there.
1:54 Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gyeongbokgung Station, Exit 5; Entrance price - 3,000 Won ($2.53). One of the most famous attractions in Seoul is the Gyeongbokgung Palace, and it’s an absolutely huge complex where you can walk around and see the different palaces and temples. We didn't’ have a lot of time, but I did spend a few minutes watching the guards at the front, and then walking around the inner sections of the palace. It’s one of the must visit places in Seoul.
3:46 Bukchon Son Mandu Restaurant (북촌손만두); 35,000 Won for 4 bowls of noodles, 1 combination plate of mandu dumplings for 12,000 Won. Located near to Bukchon Hanok village is a legendary restaurant in Seoul known as Bukchon Son Mandu (북촌손만두). I had eaten there before on a previous trip to Seoul, but at a different location at Insadong. This time we ate at their original location, and they specializes in both mandu dumplings, and bowls of noodles. We ordered a mixed plate of mandu which included both fried and steamed mandu and I got a bowl of mul naengmyeon (랭면), which is a Korean ice cold noodles dish. All the food was delicious. Bukchon Son Mandu is a great place to eat when you’re in Seoul.
9:54 Bukchon Hanok Village; Another one of the top attractions in Seoul is the Bukchon Hanok Village, an old village in the heart of Seoul where you can find traditional buildings and homes and businesses. It has become a bit on the touristy side, but there are many locals that visit, and I think it’s a great place to take a walk and enjoy the atmosphere of Seoul. We also stopped to have a couple skewers of what is one of my favorite Korean street foods, dakkochi, which are grilled chicken skewers.
11:07 Korean Street Food near Dongdaemun Market: In the evening, we took the Metro over to Dongdaemun station and found a small side street to eat some Korean street food snacks. We had tteokbokki, gimbap, and some kind of boiled fish tofu on a stick. All the snacks together came to 7,000 Won ($5.91).
13:18 Dongdaemun Grilled Fish Street: For dinner, we didn’t really have any plans, but we just happen to stumble into what I later found out was the Dongdaemun Grilled Fish Street, because there were at least a half dozen grilled fish restaurants. The restaurant served a number of different types of fish, all salted heavily and grilled. Along with rice and all the banchan sides, it was a Korean food meal I loved.
17:34 Dongdaemun Area: Finally, to end this full one day tour of Korean food and attractions in Seoul, we took a walk around the Dongdaemun area, full of shopping malls and action.
I think it turned out to be a pretty good one day in Seoul!

Gyeongamdong Railroad Town(경암동 철길마을) - Tourist attraction in Gunsan(South Korea)
I went to Gunsan, a popular tourist attraction in Korea.
Gyeongam-dong Railway Town is the best photo spot in Gunsan.
The shack that lined up along the railroad tracks is impressive.
After the Korean War, the poor began to gather here.
There are still 15 households remaining.
Trains are no longer in operation since 2008.
But this place is still attracting people's attention.

The Grand Gunsan Adventure! Cycling from Daejeon to Gunsan, South Korea.
Me and Soph had a long weekend so we decided to set out on a long ride. We set off from the city where we live in South Korea, Daejeon, to get a ferry to Seoyu Island from a city called Gunsan. This video is a visual report of the shenanigans of that trip with the hope of educating anyone watching it to our lives in South Korea and the country in general. Over the whole weekend we rode around 200km with the bulk of that being done on the Friday. It was hard, but a great experience, and I would recommend it to anyone interested it cycling.
All the video footage was shot using and gopro hero 3 black edition and was edited my me. The photographs in the video were taken by both me and Soph using our smartphones.
I make no claim to own the music on this video and have added it for the viewers enjoyment, education and what follows is my critical opinion of the tracks included.
The first track is 'The Whistle Song' by the amazingly talented 'Netsky'. This track is a great example of his work. In my opinion, he is at the forefront of music composition of this time and words can't truly describe the awesomeness of his music, only his music can. For all cyclists out there, it's brilliant music to ride to. It's light, but heavy, fast and progressive and if you like to do time trials, it'll help. I would recommend buying both his awesome albums, you won't be disappointed.
The second track is 'All There Is' by the equally brilliant 'High Contrast'. This track is a mix of dark and light which I believe was the intention of the artist. The name of his latest album is 'The Agony & The Ecstasy', which this track is off. I think the albums name really rings true in this track as it has a darker sides to it. I think this dark side, really compliments the lighter parts of the track, such as in real life. There's no light without dark, no happiness without sadness, and the light is a lot brighter when coming from the dark. I would also recommend checking out his previous album 'Confidential' which has less of a dark side, but still some brilliant tracks.
I hope you enjoy the video and please like or subscribe if you'd like to see more.
