Tihany si trova in Ungheria sul lago Balaton e si estende su un promontorio di origine vulcanica abitato da oltre un millennio.Dell'abbazia benedettina fondata nel 1055 e' rimasta solo la cripta dove sono custodite le spoglie di re Andrea I°.Il testo latino del 1055 in cui si ordinava di fondare Tihany,contiene le prime parole scritte in lingua ungherese.
L'attuale chiesa barocca risale al '700.
