Koekelare is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Bovekerke, Koekelare proper and Zande. On January 1, 2006 Koekelare had a total population of 8,291. The total area is 39.19 km² which gives a population density of 212 inhabitants per km². Koekelare was formerly written as Couckelaere.

The Lange Max Museum is devoted to the German 38 cm SK L/45 Max gun and the German occupation of Koekelare and the nearby area in World War I. The focus on the German side of the war makes it a unique museum in Belgium. The museum is named after the nickname of the German gun Lange Max, which was one of the biggest guns of the world in 1917 and located in Koekelare. The museum was opened in October 2014 by the Minister-President of Flanders, Geert Bourgeois. It is located on a domain called Site Lange Max, which includes a farmyard. At the site one can see other protected monuments: a bakehouse, the artillerie platform and a former German mess. Belevingsroute Oostende tijdens de groote Oorlog

Een gloednieuwe fietstocht in het kader van de herdenking van 100 jaar Groote Oorlog, brengt je langs deze en andere markante historische plaatsen.
Onderweg laten infoborden de bezoeker kennismaken met de historische achtergrond van Oostende tijdens de Groote Oorlog: het belang van de haven van Oostende en van de kustverdediging, de vluchtelingenstroom enz.

Al fietsend langs de WOI-sites van Oostende ontdek je toffe animaties en muziek. Starten doe je individueel vanuit Raversyde, waar je kortfilms te zien krijgt over vrede en er bovendien een bezoek kan gebracht worden aan de Atlantikwall.

Van daaruit vertrekken we richting het Fort Napoleon met onderweg gedichtlezingen, animaties en een boottocht. Hier stap je even af voor een optreden met Ierse traditionals, een mogelijkheid om je picknick op te eten en spiegelsoldaten. Verder in de tocht vinden we Klaroenblazers terug en ontdek je Oostende op een heel andere manier.

Afspraak dus op zaterdag 25 en zondag 26 april tussen 10u30 en 12u in Raversyde. Dit is meer dan fietsen, dit is beleven.
