Ventspils (Latvia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Ventspils in Latvia.
Ventspils is located on the Black Sea in the north of Latvia’s west coast and since the thirteenth century has been a city of sailors. From the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries it was member of the German Hanse and in the middle of the seventeenth century a shipyard was built for warships and merchant ships, which led to the prosperity of the city. On the banks of the Venta River is the only castle of the Order Of The Princedom Of Kurzeme, built by the Livonian Order at the end of the thirteenth century. The harbour has been well-developed and boasts a long history, from the Wenden Tribe and the Crusaders, right up to the present day. A trip around the harbour highlights the fact that Ventspils is the most important port in Latvia and from where oil from Siberia is loaded as well as chemical products and also wood and fish. After the Northern War and a devastating plague, the city lay in ruins and the harbour, unused. However, following the extension of the harbour at the end of the nineteenth century, life returned. When, in 1904, a rail link was opened to Moscow and Rybinsk, the harbour became important once again. In this region, people have always lived by the sea and the ice-free harbour gave rise to Ventspils’ deserved prosperity.

The Great Latgale Adventure
Latgale is a region renowned for the sincerity and hospitality of its locals, the quality of its traditional cuisine, talented potters and craftsmen, and people of different faiths living side by side. It’s also known as the Land of Blue Lakes.
The region is best discovered at a leisurely pace, stopping to watch the birds take off into the skies, take a dip in an inviting, crisp blue lake and drop into a pottery workshop to buy a unique regional souvenir. Leave plenty of time to enjoy local cuisine like kļockas (hearty curd dumplings) and kuģelis (baked potato pie). Overnight at rural guest houses where you’ll be lulled to sleep by the sounds of nature. Locals are extremely welcoming and keen to share their stories.
Visit Latgale with an open heart and be ready to return with memories to last a lifetime.

Hi friends. This video about Latvia. See more on same playlist.
Liepāja is a city in western Latvia, located on the Baltic Sea. It is the largest city in the Kurzeme Region and the third largest city in the country after Riga and Daugavpils. It is an important ice-free port. In 2017 population of Liepāja is 69,443 people.
In the 19th and early 20th century it was a favourite place for sea-bathers with the town boasting a fine park and many pretty gardens, and a theatre. Liepāja is however known throughout Latvia as City where the wind is born, likely because of the constant sea breeze. A song of the same name (Latvian: Pilsētā, kurā piedzimst vējš) was composed by Imants Kalniņš and has become the anthem of the city. Its reputation as the windiest city in Latvia was strengthened with the construction of the largest wind farm in the nation (33 Enercon wind turbines) nearby.

Welcome to Courland Kurzeme Region Sights
Through these many pages and photographs, TheCeļotājs will take you on a excursion of some of the many sights Courland Regions has to offer.
As we journey through Courland Region, we will visit Blīdenes parish Cemetery which is a small cemetery located in the countryside. Not far from the cemetery is the Pilsblīdene Manor Ruins and Pilsblīdene Tower Ruins. The manor is located out in the countryside just off a gravel road like the Tower Ruins, which is just down the road. Located deep in the woods of Ods, Bārtas parish out in the middle of countryside of Neptūns, Ķīburi, Bartas parish, Grobiņa County, and down a path is the Vile Bridge Ruins that once was used to cross the Bārta River. As we are driving back from the Lībciems Former Soviet Union Missile Base, we will stop at the ruins of the former Hydroelectric Power Station located next to the Rīva River in Rīva Labrags parish. That this location the Rīva River was dammed and the water was channeled through the former power building. Today there is very little left that resembles a Hydroelectric Power Station. Also located at this spot is the Wooden Bridge over the Rīva River that leads back into the woods and a camp grounds. While out in the countryside and on a gravel road, we watched as the road was being graded. We will even see a farmer harvesting his grain crop, while other farmers have bailed their hay in to large round bails waiting to be loaded and taken to a place for storage until needed. Located in the same area, we can see a small power windmill farm and its power substation. After passing the Virga parish Mill Wall Ruins -- ANNO 1892 -- located along Route P106, in Lauksargi, Virga, parish, many different times, we finally took the time to stop and explore the ruins. It was actually designed on the windmill style as could be found in the Netherlands.
