Places to see in ( Gallarate - Italy )
Gallarate is a city and comune of Alto Milanese of Lombardy and of Milan metropolitan area, northern Italy, in the Province of Varese. It has a population of some 54 thousand people. Its name comes from Latin, in fact a lot of cities around it have the same root rate, such as Casorate Sempione, Samarate, etc.
It is the junction of railways to Varese, Laveno and Arona (for the Simplon). Some 10 kilometres (6 miles) to the west are the electric works of Vizzola, where 23,000 hp are derived from the river Ticino. Its territory is crossed by the river Arnetta, and belongs to the Ticino River Natural Park. The city in the first part of the 19th century had a strong textile industry.
Founded by the Gauls and later conquered by the Romans, Gallarate was mentioned as an important vicus or village in documents dating back to the Roman conquest of what was then called Gallia Cisalpina. After the Carolingian conquet of northern-central Italy, a castle was erected upon the remains of the original Roman fortifications located beside the still existing Basilica of Santa Maria. The castle has disappeared, but its ancient location is identified through the city’s topography and by the street name Via Postcastello.
By the latter half of the 19th century modern industry had begun to take over many areas of Italy. In a few decades, Gallarate became an important industrial city. This period was also marked by heavy social tensions brought about by the rapid political and economic changes wrought by Gallarate’s own industrial revolution. Nowadays, Gallarate’s industrial structure no longer includes these giant industrial powerhouses of the past. Their existence, however, is still marked out by the presence of the high chimneys, which are still visible along Gallarate’s skyline. Many of the old Liberty-style buildings, where thousands of Gallaratesi worked during the past century-and-a-half, have been turned into new modern multi-level shopping centres and plazas.

Church of Santa Maria Assunta is located in the city centre and in autumn 2016 the local government started works of restoration

Church of San Zenone (18th century)

Historical pharmacy Dahò, where the carbonari used to hide in the 19th century, owned by Dott. Renata Minoli. The pharmacy is located in piazza Garibaldi, in which there a statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi.

Gallarate railway station, opened in 1860, is the junction of the railway lines Domodossola–Milan, Luino–Milan and Porto Ceresio–Milan. The station is a stop for several long-running trains (EuroCity from Milan to Geneva and Basle), of regional trains from Milan to Domodossola, and of line S5 of Milan suburban railway service, and line S30 of Ticino railway network. Places to see in ( Verbania - Italy )
This lovely lakeside town on Lago Maggiore is called the garden on the lake. It has a spectacular botanical garden that covers 16 hectares and has 20,000 species of plants from around the world. there is also a lakefront public park, a museum dedicated to landscapes, and a national park at the town's doorstep. Add to that the hanging gardens on the Borromean islands, and you can see why it gets its name.
Located only 91 kilometers from Milan and 40 kilometers from Locarno, Switzerland, Verbania also takes in the hamlets of Pallanza and Intra as part of its municipality. The views of the surrounding Alps across the water are breathtaking, and the town is well-tended. There are opulent villas, museums and water activities to enjoy, as well as horse riding and hiking in the surrounding mountains.
Ferries from Verbania take you to the enchanting little islands known as the Borromean Islands, and across the lake to Laveno. Verbania sits on a promontory point that juts out into the lake, giving it great views up and down the lago. Hire a boat to take you to Stresa across the point to the south, or walk along the shoreline to the neighboring towns. Some of Lake Maggiore's best beaches are in this area, here in Verbania and Ghiffa. The town has sharp cafes, nice restaurants and a laid-back yet affluent-feeling atmosphere. It's a relaxing spot with gorgeous panoramas and outdoors activities aplenty.
A trip to the island of Isola Bella is a must, with its incredible palace and gardens, like a fairy-tale spot on the lake. The old-world fishing island of Isola Pescatori (appropriately named Fishermen's Island) is a quaint place to have a seafood lunch. Villa Remigio is an eclectic but pretty villa built as a lover's hideaway in the 1800s. Villa Giulia is a neoclassic beauty with manicured gardens full of greenery, quiet corners and nice views. It is a park and the villa itself is an upscale restaurant that hosts events and ceremonies.
Villa Taranto was built by a Scottish captain who installed an elaborate English garden, important thousands of species to create a magical place of blooms and tranquility. There is a museum dedicated to landscapes, the Museo del Paessaggio, that is worth a look. But the landscapes themselves will captivate you, from the lake itself to the heights of Mt. Rosso. Looming higher is Monte Zeda to the north in the national park, reaching a peak of 2156 meters above sea level. Despite the lofty elevations, the lakes keep the climate temperate.
Don't miss the Renaissance church of the Madonna di Campagna, the Romanesque Oratorio of San Remigio with 11th century frescoes and a pretty portico; and the museum in Palazzo Dugnani that has Roman era tablets and Lombard frescoes. The Diocesan Museum in Palazzo Biumi-Innocenti shows off religious folk art and devotional votives. The Casa della Resistenza pays homage to the partisans who played a part and paid dearly while resisting fascism during WWII.

“Let’s go” has pretty much been our life’s motto since we met nearly 25 years ago. We met in New York, moved to San Diego together, and married in Lake Tahoe – all within five months. When you know, you know – you know what we mean?
Now, after raising two adventure-seeking boys, we are ready to get out and explore some more. Our children have begun their lives and now it’s time to begin the second-half of ours.
We wanted a challenge and something fun, so we are starting an adventure of a lifetime. We’re calling it #60×60. Our plan is to travel to 60 countries by the time Kim turns 60 (that’s in 6 years by the way).

Lugano Switzerland and Sighignola Italy (Mezzegra too)

Our 6th day of our trip to Europe was as stunning as ever. We started the day in Mezzegra and visited the Mussolini memorial there. We then crossed the border from Italy into Switzerland to visit Lugano. We found an incredible park in Lugano to fly the drone and enjoy the warm day. After spending the day in Lugano, we headed back across the Italian boarder and up mount sighinola to view lake lugano from the Italian side. Mount Sighinola is actually half in Switzerland and half in Italy. We were extremely impressed by the view and very glad we made the trip up to see it. We also got some amazing drone footage up there.
