HELISKI MONTE ROSA | Col Du Lys to Zermatt | DJI Osmo pocket & Mavic Pro

Amazing views on our descent down the Grenz and Gorner glaciers. The heli picked us up from the Italian side and dropped us at the Col du Lys 4255m (14,000ft) between Lyscamm and the Monte Rosa. From there we descended down the Grenzgletscher and Gornergletscher and arrived in Zermatt Switzerland. We then took up the Klein Matterhorn cablecar and skied off piste all the way back to Champoluc, Italy where we were staying. Overall amazing day with insane scenery despite not great snow conditions. Shot with the DJI osmo pocket, GoPro hero 4, and DJI Mavic pro.

Италия: озеро Комо - что посмотреть за 3 дня | Italy: lake Como - what to see in 3 days

Озеро Комо — это, наверное, одна из главных достопримечательностей севера Италии: великолепное чудо природы, обрамленное уютными деревушками и городками, красующимися среди горных пейзажей. Озеро длиной 27 километров расположено в 40 километрах к северу от Милана и служит популярнейшим местом отдыха итальянцев и зарубежных туристов; приобрести здесь виллу или хотя бы апартаменты мечтают многие, особенно те, кто тут уже побывал. На Комо расположены дома таких знаменитостей, как Мадонна, Мэтью Беллами, Сильвестр Сталлоне, Рональдиньо и многих других.
Отдельную красоту озеру, помимо его прозрачных вод, придают живописные горы, окружающие Комо: с юга они достигают в высоту 600 метров, и часто эта область именуется Ларианским треугольником; на севере начинается предальпийская территория, и здесь уже видны горы высотой в 2 с лишним километра.Озеро, которое также иногда называют Ларио, расположено на высоте 198 метров над уровнем моря и обладает достаточно серьезной глубиной в 425 метров. Общая площадь вод озера Комо достигает 146 кв. километров, а его форма слегка напоминает перевернутую букву У. В северной части находится город Колико, в юго-западном ответвлении — Комо, а в юго-восточном — Лекко. Другие стоящие посещения города, расположенные у озера: Менаджо, Варенна, Лальо, Белладжо, Чернобио, Тремеццо, Нессо.

Lake Orta and Mount Mottarone - A Wop back home - The Traveling Wop

Time for a new episode!
In this one I'll be again with my brother from another mother Gio. This time we explore an area just a couple of hours away from our hometown. We start in Sacro Monte di Varese, a UNESCO site, then cross lake Maggiore on a ferry, then onto our main destination, lake Orta. Over there we checked out Isola San Giulio, and then enjoyed sunrise from a beautiful spot overlooking the lake, the beautiful Madonna Del Sasso chapel. Last but not least, we reach mount Mottarone, a stunning spot where we enjoyed a 360 view over the seven lakes surrounding it. Bit of a hazy day, but still worth the trip.

5 Days in Switzerland

A couple clips of my recent trip to Switzerland. 3 days in Saas Fee, on hike to Italy via the Monte Moro, and one day in Zurich.

Switzerland is one of my favorite places! So clean, so authentic, and the people are always friendly!

Piedmont region - Italy

Piedmont (Italian: Piemonte, pronounced [pjeˈmonte]; Piedmontese and Occitan: Piemont; French: Piémont) is one of the 20 regions of Italy. It has an area of 25,399 square kilometres and a population of about 4.4 million. The capital of Piedmont is Turin. The main local language is Piedmontese. Occitan is also spoken by a minority in the Occitan Valleys. Franco-Provençal is also spoken by another minority in the alpine heights of the Province of Turin. The name Piedmont comes from medieval Latin Pedemontium or Pedemontis, i. e. ad pedem montium, meaning at the foot of the mountains (attested in documents of the end of the 13th century)[1].

Piedmont is surrounded on three sides by the Alps, including Monviso (Mont Vis), where the Po rises, and Monte Rosa. It borders France, Switzerland and the Italian regions of Lombardy, Liguria, Aosta Valley and for a very small fragment with Emilia Romagna. The geography of Piedmont is 43.3% mountainous, along with extensive areas of hills (30.3%) and plains (26.4%). Piedmont is the second largest of Italy's 20 administrative regions, after Sicily. It is broadly contiguous with the upper part of the drainage basin of the river Po, which rises from the slopes of Monviso in the west of the region and is Italy's largest river. The Po collects all the waters provided within the semicircle of mountains (Alps and Apennines) which surround the region on three sides. From the highest peaks the land slopes down to hilly areas, (not always, though; sometimes there is a brusque transition from the mountains to the plains) and then to the upper, and then the lower the great Padan Plain. The boundary between the first and the second is characterised by risorgive, springs typical of the pianura padana which supply fresh water both to the rivers and to a dense network of irrigation canals. The countryside, then, is very varied: one passes from the rugged peaks of the massifs of Monte Rosa and of Gran Paradiso (national park), to the damp rice paddies of the Vercellese and Novarese; from the gentle hillsides of the Langhe and of Montferrat to the plains. The percentage of the territory which is a protected area is 7.6%. There are 56 different national or regional parks. One such park is the Gran Paradiso National Park (Grand Paradis).

The Abbey of Sant'Antimo, Italian: Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, is a former Benedictine monastery in the comune of Montalcino, Tuscany, central Italy. It is approximately 10 km from Montalcino about 9 km from the Via Francigena, the pilgrim route to Rome. The name of the abbey may refer to Saint Anthimus of Rome, whose relics were supposedly moved here during the late 8th century.

After many years of disuse, the abbey was reoccupied in 1992 by a small community of Premonstratensian Canons Regular. Since January 2016, the occupants are a community of monks of the Olivetan Benedictine order. A tributary of the river Orcia, the Starcia, runs near the abbey.

In 1291 Pope Nicholas IV ordered the union of the abbey with the Guglielmites, a reformed branch of the Benedectines, in order to give back strength to the abbey. However, after another period of decay in the 15th century, Pope Pius II annexed St. Antimus to the new diocese of Montalcino-Pienza (1462), whose bishop was Pius' nephew. The abbey decayed to the point that in the 19th century it was used as stable. In the 1870s the Italian state restored it. In 1992 the abbey became again an active monastery with the arrival of a new religious community of Canons Regular of the Order of Premontre.

Of the Carolingian edifice, the apse (called Cappella Carolingia) and the portal, richly decorated with animal and vegetable motifs, are visible. The Carolingian chapel has frescoes by Giovanni d'Asciano with stories of St. Benedict and currently acts as sacristy. Under the chapel is a crypt with a nave and two aisles divided by four columns. The Sala Capitolare (Capitular Hall) is decorated with a triple mullioned window with richly decorated capitals.

Typically French in inspiration is the ambulatory with radial chapels. In Italy this scheme is known only in Santa Trinità of Venosa and the Cathedrals of Acerenza and Aversa, all in southern Italy, and in Santa Maria of Piè di Chianti, Marche. The ambulatory housed the pilgrims to pray the Martyrium, the place where the Saint's relic are placed. The aisles and the ambulatory are groin vaulted, while the nave has trusses. The nave, which is c. 20-m high, is divided into three sections: the huge arcades, the matronaeum and the chiaropiano (upper floor).

Notable is the so-called capital of Daniel in the lions' den, work of the French Master of Cabestany. It shows Daniel praying between the hungry lions, and, on the other sides, the lions devouring the accusers. The outer walls are made of Alabaster, you can shine a light against the walls and see the light translated/reflected back out to the eye.
