The Chapada dos Veadeiros is a region of cerrado in the northeastern state of Goiás covering five municipalities: Alto Paraíso , Cavalcante , South Hills , St. John D'alliance and Teresina.
It has total area of 15,267 km2 and a population of 32,731 inhabitants, that is, with a population density of 2.14 inhabitants per km2. It houses the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park , recognized as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage, and the Environmental Protection Area of Pouso Alto where is located the highest point of the central plateau 1676 meters above sea level and the highest headwaters of the river basin Tocantins. As one of the existing most biodiverse areas in the country the region also received the title of Biosphere Reserve Goyaz.
The area cut by the parallel 14 is known for its natural beauty and wealth of fauna and flora that make up its biodiversity . The tracks between mountains and paths are numerous tourist attractions such as rivers, canyons, waterfalls , hot springs, etc. In his story was the passage of the flags on the Gold cycle, the remnants of quilombos called Kalunga , who now live in villages like ingenuity and Go of Molech , the Cross and the Prestes Column Commission and the crystal cycle that resulted in the creation of the town of St. George .
