Hiking in the Beautiful Basque Country, Spain | Camino del Norte from Mutriku to Markina-Day 7
This was our day 7 of Camino del Norte when we hiked through the mountains from the village of Mutriku to Markina Xemein.
That night was a hell, it was raining almost all the night and the morning and we slept only for a couple of hours. So we woke up very late at 9 am and then all day long we were feeling sleepy.
We finally found the camping gas that we needed so badly already while we were paying for the night at the reception.
We came down to the village Mutriku to go to the tourist office for the stamp and decided not to buy any food to go lightweight cause we knew we had to do 20 plus kms that day.
We had a dillema in front of us. As we realized that the Camino wasn't going along the ocean coast and was going away from it in the mountains but we planned our route and the camping spots to stay in close to the coast. And now had to decide whether to follow our plans but go on the unknown car road or follow the Camino and stay in the hostels or stealth camping. Because there wasn't any camping sites in that places to our dissapointment all the way to Bilbao. And that would take us around 3 days to accomplish.
And so hesitating which way to go we took the Camino and realized that it goes in different direction from the car road so we have no chance to check whether it was possible to walk there...

Hiking the Basque Country - Backroads Day 1
We start in Bilbao, Spain where we meet up with our Backroads tour group for a Basque Country adventure. Our first stop is a hike on the coast near Deba, Spain. The views and landscape on this hike are stunning. We grab a quick lunch. Then, we go to the city of San Sebastian, Spain. We explore a bit of the city and have a fun evening getting to know some of the people also on this week-long tour.

Spain 2018 Travel Day!
Hola! I seriously love travel days! We aren't 'full time' travelers or do we accumulate a lot of miles for business so we don't generally get all the perks that some others enjoy but with the AMEX card we enjoy a few little luxuries. It's a tad expensive but with the $300 hundred travel credit per year, $15-$20 Uber credit each month AND $200 credit used for 'random' travel stuffs at the airport per year it more than pays for itself. But the piece de' resistance is the fact that we hit the Centurion Lounge before every flight. That's about $50-$60 bucks per trip. It definitely makes it worth it! For us...the adventure always begins at the airport to 'wherever' and Spain is that 'wherever' this time. I can't wait! Happy Travels! Sandra:)

Trip to Bilbao and San Sebastian, Basque Country, Spain
I took a trip to Northern Spain, Basque Country. After the south, center and the Mediterranean this part remained uncharted by me. I was pleasantly surprised to discover a different language, people, food and rich culture in País Basco. This is another video in my series of unstructured travel footage.

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Catedral de Ourense
Ourense Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in Ourense in northwestern Spain. Dedicated to St Martin, it was founded in 550. The first structure was restored by Alonso el Casto.
The present mainly Gothic building was raised with the support of Bishop Lorenzo in 1220. Its local patroness is Saint Euphemia. There is a silver-plated shrine, and others of St Facundus and St Primitivus. The Christ's Chapel (Capilla del Cristo Crucificado) was added in 1567 by Bishop San Francisco Triccio. It contains an image of Christ, which was brought in 1330 from a small church on Cape Finisterre. John the Baptist's Chapel (Capilla de San Juan Bautista) was created in 1468 by the Conde de Benavente. The Portal of Paradise is sculptured and enriched with figures of angels and saints, while the antique cloisters were erected in 1204 by Bishop Ederonio.
The Capilla de la Maria Madre was restored in 1722, and connected by the cloisters with the cathedral. The eight canons were called Cardenales, as at Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and they alone did services before the altar; this custom was recognised as immemorial by Pope Innocent III, in 1209. The cathedral, which has undergone an impressive transition of architectural styles of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical, was built to a Latin Cross plan. It has been a functional basilica since 1887. The cathedral has a crucifix that is held in great reverence all over Galicia.
The earliest cathedral in Ourense appears to have been the church dedicated to Santa María la Madre. In 550, the Suevian king Chararic built a second church dedicated to St Martin of Tours on the site of today's cathedral of the Auriense diocese. It was also the time when the arch bridge opposite the cathedral was built over the river, facilitating access to the thermal springs. The cathedral was however repeatedly destroyed over the centuries by the Moors and the Northmen who invaded the city. Today's building was constructed as a Romanesque church in the 12th and 13th centuries. Construction was supported by Bishop Lorenzo, who also built the new Ourense bridge and the bishop's palace.
