Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission burial ground for the dead of the First World War in the Ypres Salient on the Western Front. After Tyne Cot, it is the second largest cemetery for Commonwealth forces in Belgium. Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is located near Poperinge in the province of West Flanders. Most of those buried in the cemetery are war casualties who had been wounded near Ypres and later died in the four large Allied casualty clearing stations located in this area.

The 65-hectare large animal theme park is located on the site of the former Cistercian Cambron Abbey, and is home to over 4,000 animals. The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium, dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. The memorial is located at the eastern exit of the town and marks the starting point for one of the main roads out of the town that led Allied soldiers to the front line. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and built and by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Menin Gate Memorial was unveiled on 24 July 1927.

The In Flanders' Fields Museum is a museum in Ypres , Belgium, dedicated to the study of the First World War. It occupies the second floor of the Cloth Hall on the market square in the city centre. The building was largely destroyed by artillery during the war, but was afterwards reconstructed. In 1998 the original Ypres Salient Memorial Museum was refurbished and renamed In Flanders Fields Museum after the famous poem by Canadian John McCrae. Following a period of closure, the museum reopened on 11 June 2012. The curator, Piet Chielens, is a World War I historian. The museum does not set out to glorify war, but to suggest its futility, particularly as seen in the West Flanders front region in World War I.

Toeristisch België - Ieper - Vestingroute

De vestingen van Ieper zijn de best bewaarde van ons land. Hun verhaal begint tien eeuwen geleden, toen de stad ontstond aan de oevers van de Ieperlee. Eerst waren de vestingen niet meer dan een aarden wal met grachten. Later kwamen er stenen muren en torens. Nog later groeiden ze uit tot een complex geheel van bastions, voorversterkingen, grachten en muren.De route start aan het onthaalcentrum De Kazematten, waar je ook de gratis tentoonstelling over tien eeuwen vestingen in Ieper kan bezoeken.
