Preveza, Greece - Epirus
Preveza is a port town on the Ionian sea, part of the region of Epirus. It is known for Ancient Nicopolis, the Acheron River and the Necromanteion (Oracle of the Dead). During summer months, the port of Preveza is full of boats and yachts, while cafes are filled with people. In the picturesque streets of Preveza there are nineteenth century mansions with their remarkable architecture along with houses with insular features. The cobbled alley of Seitan Bazaar with its traditional ouzeri is a famous area in the town. Preveza is adorned with significant Christian temples, such as the churches of Agios Nikolaos and Agios Athanasios, as well as the metropolitan temple of Agios Charalambos with its exceptional paintings and the wooden carved gold-plated iconostasis. Adjacent to the church is the venetian Clock Tower, a landmark of the city, built in 1752. Greek taverns, cafes, and narrow streets portray the typical Mediterranean appearance that you would expect from an old town. The large quay with the beautiful neoclassical buildings creates the perfect setting for relaxing walks. With the combination of the nature and vegetation and the traditional taverns, a very idyllic environment is created. There are many beautiful beaches and other natural sites that one can enjoy while visiting Preveza Prefecture.

Capital of the prefecture, built on the entrance of the Gulf of Amvrakikos. A modern city, administrative, commercial, intellectual and tourist center of the prefecture. Preveza is built on the location of ancient Vereniki which was founded by Pyrrhus, the king of Epirus,in 290 B.C. to honor his mother-in-law, Vereniki. The city was established towards the late 11th century, after Nikopolis was deserted. Many conquerors passed through the city until it was finally incorporated with Greece in 1912. Its port offers connections to the islands of the Ionian sea. It is located 426 km NW of Athens (via Rio-Antirio) and 440 km SW of Thessaloniki (via the Ioannina-Trikala-Larisa road).

The coast of the Prefecture of Preveza extends for 60 kilometres. Bays, peninsulas, gulfs, sandy beaches and rocks alternate harmoniously.
