Puerto Aventuras is located just 10 minutes away from Playa del Carmen and is famous for their gorgeous beaches, luxurious resorts, its golf course and the largest full service marina in the vicinity. This is the perfect place to make your swimming with dolphins dream come true. I enjoyed some laid back days walking around the little village, enjoying the sun and good food.

When I first moved to Mexico, I lived in Aventuras Akumal, which is just south of the main village of Akumal. The beach is great. It's a long stretch of beach; you can walk, which seems forever. There's snorkeling right off the beach, and there's a dive shop or two. You can just hop a dive boat and go out for a dive during the day.
The properties there range from inexpensive condominiums to some lovely houses, but none of the properties are so over-the-top that you can't afford to stay there. Aventuras Akumal is perfect for families and couples.
