Puerto Madryn is a city in the province of Chubut in Argentine Patagonia. It is the capital of the Viedma Department, and has about 57,571 inhabitants according to the last census in 2001.
Puerto Madryn is protected by the Golfo Nuevo, which is formed by the Península Valdés and the Punta Ninfas. It is an important centre for tourists visiting the natural attractions of the Península Valdés and the coast.
A new shopping mall in the city centre has helped tourism significantly, making Puerto Madryn a more attractive place for both international and domestic tourists visiting Patagonia. It is twinned with Nefyn, a small town on the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales, the result of its enduring link with Welsh culture since the Welsh settlement in Argentina. The first of a two-Test tour to Argentina by the Wales national rugby union team was played in 2006 in Puerto Madryn, a 27–25 win for Argentina. Puerto Madryn is home to two football clubs; Club Social y Atlético Guillermo Brown, who play in Nacional B and Deportivo Madryn that currently play in Torneo Argentino B.
A basketball team, Deportivo Puerto Madryn, plays in the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol (LNB). Their home arena is known as the Deportivo Puerto Madryn Arena.
El Tehuelche Airport is located 10 km northwest of the city centre. Commercial flights from Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, and other Argentinian cities are available. Most tourists fly into Trelew Airport as flights into Puerto Madryn are restricted as a result of environmental concerns.

The best things to do in Puerto Madryn would be to embark on day trips to Peninsula Valdes, Punta Loma, and Punta Tombo. These ecotourism hotspots are three of the most popular tourist destinations in Argentina. Peninsula Valdes, Punta Loma, and Punta Tombo give tourists the chance to encounter rare wildlife. Each of them offers a unique experience.
Puerto Madryn day trips are excursions that you can take from the city. Even though they're located outside city borders, they can be easily accessed and explored within the same day, hence the term day trips. Puerto Madryn has a strategic location and within close range of Peninsula Valdes, Punta Loma, and Punta Tombo.
Puerto Madryn Day Trips To Peninsula Valdes
Peninsula Valdes is a famous attraction in Argentina that is recognized. Among all the day trips from Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes is the most popular. The area is a protected nature reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Peninsula Valdes is well-known for its unique wildlife and geographic features.
The coastline of Peninsula Valdes is inhabited by an assortment of marine mammals including elephant seals, fur seals, and sea lions. Southern lala right whales may also be spotted in Golfo San José and Golfo Nuevo between May and December to mate and give birth. They come here because water in the gulf is warm. In the open sea right off the coast, you can see orca whales which come and visit to feed on sea lions and elephant seals. Orcas are typically spotted from Punta Norte in April. Among the best things to do in Puerto Madryn is to see these marine mammals.
Other sights to see in Peninsula Valdes are the Magellanic penguins that come to the shoreline between October and March. Other animals are also adding to the list of attractions in Puerto Madryn. This includes wild guanacos, maras, rheas, and the Argentine Grey Fox. There are 181 species of birds, including 61 migratory kinds like the Antarctic Pigeon living in the area. They all make Peninsula Valdes worthy places for Puerto Madryn day trips.
Puerto Madryn Day Trips To Punta Tombo
Following Peninsula Valdes, Punta Tombo National Reserve is the second most popular Puerto Madryn day trip. It is located 248 km south of Puerto Madryn, a mere 2-hour drive from the city. Punta Tombo is a penguin colony that opens from September until April. At which time, almost a million penguins come here for their mating season.
Tourists are allowed to walk alongside penguins but a certain distance must be kept when approaching their nests. Young penguins can be first seen in Punta Tombo around December and January. Apart from penguins, there are other species of birds living here such as king and rock cormorants, kelp gulls, giant petrels, and oystercatchers. One of the things to do in Puerto Madryn is to see all these animals up close. They will make a Punta Tombo day trip worthwhile.
Puerto Madryn Day Trips To Punta Loma
Punta Loma is a sea lion reserve situated 17 km southwest of Puerto Madryn. You can ride a bike to get there but it might sink into the unpaved, sandy road. Hence, the best way to reach Punta Loma would be to use a 4x4 vehicle. In addition to encounters with sea lions, there are lovely rocky beaches in Punta Loma. They will certainly make your Punta Loma day trip memorable.

Vol solo Montevideo à Punta Ninfas, Chubut, Argentina
