8. Homigot, South Korea
Homigot is a popular destination for location for locals and with the help of human intervention, they managed to make this beach quite strange! Since this is the easternmost point in South Korea, the sun strikes this location first. Korean artists got work and decided to come up with this creepy statue to put in the ocean. Titled the Sunrise at the Hands of Harmony, this piece of art just made this beach just a tad more unsettling.
7. Hot Water Beach, New Zealand
If you come to this beach on the north island, east of Auckland, you’d probably begin to wonder why so many people are digging holes in the ground to sit in! Seems a little childish. You’d then later realize they were basically digging their own hot tubs. Underground water can reach temperatures of 147 degrees fahrenheit which is just right for a nice bath. The best time normally to enjoy the hot springs is when the tide is low. Each little pool you make will eventually get washed away, but don’t worry. If you come back again, you can make a new one!
6. Papakolea Beach, Hawaii
So we’ve seen pink and black sand beaches but what about about green! Yes, it does actually exist and it’s also located on the Hawaii’s Big Island, just a quick drive south of the Black Sands Beach! What might almost seem like grass or algae at first is actually the green coloring derived from high amounts olivine crystals that come from eroded lava flow. This is one of the truly magical beaches in Hawaii and it requires a bit of a hike in order to get here, but it certainly seems worth it. How many other chances do you get to see a green beach?!
5. Maho Beach, St. Maarten
If you’re afraid of airplanes or want to sunbathe without the loud noises the produce this might not be the place for you! However, it is one of the more unique settings due to the fact that airplanes are flying about 50 over your head! It’s location is literally steps away from Princess Juliana International Airport. While it does sort of seem cool, there was one woman injured by a jet blast and there have been warnings posted to beachgoers here. The jet blast sent her flying and she hit her head pretty hard on a concrete bench. The jet blasts also sends whirlwinds of sand across the beach. Not the best place for a honeymoon, but unique nonetheless.
4. Anjuna Beach India
No, these aren’t large people in bikinis, there are literally cows on the beach! In Goa of Western India cows are welcome to lay beachside next to people and it’s considered to be a sacred beach. It’s definitely not something you would see every day. Don’t dare plan on enjoying a hamburger on the beach next to these cows! They’re are considered to be holy beings and they probably won’t take to kindly to you eating their gods over here! Just watch where you step! This certainly seems like a beach peta activists would enjoy coming to.
3. Big Major Cay, Bahamas
Pigs might not be able to fly but here at this beach in the bahamas, they can certainly swim. This remote island in the Caribbean is home to pigs who roam the beaches and soak up the tropical sun. The waters here stay at a warm 24 degrees celsius and it’s still a mystery on how the pigs actually got here. Some claim that sailors dropped off the pigs and planned on coming back later to eat them but next did. People come by on yachts to keep them well fed and enjoy taking a swim with them at this unique beach.
2. Red Sand Beach, Galapagos Islands
On Rabida Island just west of Ecuador, is home to a diverse wildlife that attracts many biologists. It’s home to flamingos, pelicans, Galapagos turtles, sea lions and don’t forget about the red sands beach! The color of the sand here is a much darker red than the pink beaches we saw in the Bahamas, almost like a large amount of blood has washed up on the shore! Rest assured, it’s only from the large amounts of iron in the volcanic matter that’s deposited here.
1.Mudhdhoo Island, Maldives
Our most bizarre beach on this list is definitely the one that actually glows in the dark. It’s located in the Maldives, tucked away in the Indian Ocean. It’s absolutely breathtaking. The organisms that create these lights are from ostracod crustaceans. A natural chemical reaction happens when this microorganism is disturbed by oxygen. In this photo you see thousands of specs of glowing blue light, lighting up the ocean!

Today we cruised from Santa Cruz to Bartolome Island, spending the day hiking up to the top of the volcanic island, snorkeling and wildlife watching. A little geology and a litter marine life… what more could you want! Enjoy!

Logistics for Santa Cruz Island stay (4 nights/5 Days)
• Hostel North Seymour, Lobo Marino y Duncan N. 258, Puerto Ayora. 4 night stay for 2 people ($221.76 total, or $110.88 each). Complimentary breakfast and water bottle re-fills included. I booked through Expedia.com. in January (5 months before my stay). Hotel North Seymour is a cash only location, so you pay when you arrive.
• Taxi from docks to hotel (10 min trip) = $2 (you can walk… I had broken luggage)
• Highlands Tour: we used a taxi which cost $45 for two people on a half day trip. This included stops at El Chato Tortoise Reserve, Los Gemelos (collapsed craters), and the Lava tunnels. The El Chato Tortoise ranch also cost $5 to enter.
• North Seymour Dive Trip with Eagle Ray Tours $230 each with Eagleray Tours ( Due to boat repairs, Eagle Ray Tours could not run the trip. They worked with Albatros Tours ( to make sure we got on another boat for the same tour.
• Bartolome Island Tour with Eagle Ray Tours ($235 each). Full day with land and snorkeling excursions.
• Food Expenses can obviously very. We had 3 breakfasts and 2 lunches included between the hotel and tours. I purchased 4 dinners, and 1 lunches for $55 combined (no Alcoholic drinks or sodas)…and maybe another $10 of other stuff like ice cream cones and the like.
• Gratuities: I spent roughly $45 tipping on tours and restaurants.
• Ferries between Islands cost $30 one way. We booked our ferry from Santa Cruz to Isabella, and from Isabella back to Santa Cruz with Eagle Ray Tours. I recommend booking your ferry passage as soon as you can as they do fill up.
Total Cost for the Santa Cruz leg of the trip:
• $737,88 (without ferries to and from the island)

I thought it was be a nice morning before leaving for Santa Cruz. I wasn’t expecting a stingray to pop out of no where while I was snorkeling. I don’t think I could have prepared myself for this. I never knew what my feelings were towards stingrays and apparently my feelings are petrified followed by panic. I just got out of the water and didn’t go back in but the swim back to shore what horrible I thought I was going to die. Jump ahead two weeks and I am swimming with Eagle Rays at Kicker Rock. Some how 3 weeks in the Galapagos changes you.

As this Video is from DAY THREE here is my breakdown of costs for my first day excluding Flight and Entrance fee:
I took a boat from San Cristobal to Santa Cruz Island which cost $30 one way. (Every boat going between islands is $30 (this is just a taxi like boat not a tour boat which would cost more but includes activities. This boat just gets you from one island to another.)
I spent the morning at La Loberia where I saw stingrays, turtles, and sea lions. Walked there: FREE
Day three expenses:
Hotel: $12 (Started at $15 but I was staying for a week so I got her down to $12 a night.)
Food: $8.25 (I found a great bakery and just got a bunch of baked goods for under a dollar and lunch was $3.50 and breakfast was $2.50)
TOTAL: $50.25
Over my $30/day budget

Budget: $30/day in the Galapagos for 22 days
Entrance fee: $100 USD (Galapagos National Park Fee everyone pays as soon as you land.)
Visa: $10 There is also a random visa which is $10.
Flight to Galapagos from Quito, Ecuador Roundtrip: $320
I figured since I was spending $100 to go to the Galapagos I was going to spend 3 weeks there. The biggest cost was getting their and the entrance fee as the actual costs of hotels and food is similar to the mainland Ecuador.
TOTAL: $430
