Aracaju is the capital of the state of Sergipe, Brazil. It is located on the coast, four hours north of our home in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Many people told us to visit this place because of its great people and tourist attractions. Aracaju was so fun! The Mercado Municipal Governador Albano Franco was the biggest and best market I have seen here in Brazil. The city is a relaxed beach town with a large well-known bridge. There is a wonderful gondola ride over a huge beautiful park that takes you to more hikes and a huge statue. They have a great zoo with beautiful birds, a giant boa constrictor, monkeys and lots more animals. There are tons of amazing restaurants and cool sights like enormous statues of African Gods, crabs and Caju fruit. At night there are parks that have tons of entertainment for kids and families like trampolines, bounce houses and race cars, bumper cars, music and a fun play grounds. It was wonderful. Video 79

Aracaju is the capital of Sergipe state on Brazil’s northeast coast. It’s known for its beaches, including the central Praia de Atalaia.
By the beach, the turtle-shaped Oceanário de Aracaju aquarium has stingrays, sharks, eels and sea turtles, plus hands-on exhibits. The beachfront promenade, Passarela do Caranguejo, is lined with seafood restaurants and marked by a huge sculpture of a crab.

Aracaju Town is the capital of the State of Sergipe, Brazil, located in the northeastern part of the country, about 350 km (217 mi) north of Salvador. It has a population of 570,937 inhabitants, which represents approximately 33% of the state population. The coast of Aracaju has many unspoiled beaches, such as the ones in Santa Luzia Island, and urban beaches, such as the Atalaia. These coastal neighborhoods include playgrounds, squares, football fields, volleyball and basketball courts, residential buildings, bars, nightclubs, restaurants, banks and hotels.

Returning to the USA After One Year in Brazil
Check out the Brazilian restaurant at the end of the video. There is a new nonstop flight from Miami Florida to Salvador Brazil. As a late birthday present I treated myself to a nice week long vacation in Miami. I stayed at a cute Airbnb, ate all kinds of good American food, went to the beach and did lots of Christmas shopping. It had been 14 months since I stepped foot on US soil and I forgot how good it feels. There were a few things that reminded of Brazil like the palm trees everywhere, climate, and lots of diverse people every wear. I loved it and I’m so happy there is a direct flight now. Last Day of School in Brazil
The last day of school went out with a bang! The kids took their final tests but also got to play games, watch a movie and dance. Over all, this last school year was a success. The kids worked so hard both in and outside of school. They completed tons of homework, projects and Portuguese study. We are so proud of them. 2018 school year. Video 98

Minas Gerais (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈminɐz ʒeˈɾajs] is one of the 26 states of Brazil, ranks as the second most populous, the third by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the fourth largest by area in the country. The state's capital and largest city, Belo Horizonte, is a major urban and finance center in Latin America, and is the sixth largest urban agglomeration in Brazil, after the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Brasilia and Fortaleza, but its metropolitan area is the third largest in Brazil with just over 5,500,000 inhabitants, after those of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Minas Gerais is the Brazilian state with the largest number of Presidents of Brazil; Brazil's current president, Dilma Rousseff, having been born in Belo Horizonte, is one of them.
With 586,528 km2 (greater than France), it is the fourth most extensive state in Brazil. The main producer of coffee and milk in the country, Minas Gerais is known for its heritage of architecture and colonial art in historical cities such as Ouro Preto, Diamantina, Tiradentes and Mariana. In the south, the tourist points are the hydro mineral spas, such as Caxambu, São Lourenço, Poços de Caldas, São Thomé das Letras, Monte Verde and the national parks of Caparaó and Canastra. The landscape of the State is marked by mountains, valleys, and large areas of fertile lands. In the Serra do Cipó, Sete Lagoas, Cordisburgo and Lagoa Santa, the caves and waterfalls are the attractions. Some of Brazil's most famous caverns are located there. In recent years, the state has emerged as one of the largest economic forces of Brazil, exploring its great economic potential.
Family Travel in Brazil – First Time American Visitors
It is safe to bring your family travel to Brazil? Watch American grandparents tell you their true opinion. Our family came all the way from Nevada and Utah to Salvador, Bahia Brazil. We spent 9 days showing them around Salvador and they loved it. We went to Salvador’s historical district called Pelourinho, Elevador Lacerda, Igreja de São Francisco, and Tuesday night Olodum drumming in Pelourinho. We also ate some great food from street venders. Salvador has the most beautiful beaches, markets and great shopping. Grandpa’s favorite place was Pelourinho but the kids favorite place was Big Jump! Where we had a sleep over and played all night. Overall my family was very impressed, happy, safe, well fed and entertained. They love Brazil and want to come back. Video 100

Ouro Preto in Brazil - World Heritage Site by Unesco ( Full HD )
Ouro Preto (from Portuguese, Black Gold) is a city in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, a former colonial mining town located in the Serra do Espinhaço mountains and designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its outstanding Baroque architecture.
Founded at the end of the 16th century, Ouro Preto (meaning Black Gold) was originally called Vila Rica, or rich village, the focal point of the gold rush and Brazil's golden age in the 18th century under Portuguese rule.
The city contains well-preserved Portuguese colonial architecture, with few signs of modern urban life. Modern construction must adhere to historical standards maintained by the city. 18th- and 19th-century churches decorated with gold and the sculptured works of Aleijadinho make Ouro Preto a prime tourist destination.
The tremendous wealth from gold mining in the 18th century created a city which attracted the intelligentsia of Europe. Philosophy and art flourished, and evidence of a baroque revival called the Barroco Mineiro is illustrated in architecture as well as by sculptors such as Aleijadinho, painters such as Mestre Athayde, composers such as Lobo de Mesquita, and poets such as Tomás António Gonzaga. At that time, Vila Rica was the largest city in Brazil, with 100,000 inhabitants.
In 1789, Ouro Preto became the birthplace of the Inconfidência Mineira, a failed attempt to gain independence from Portugal. The leading figure, Tiradentes, was hanged as a threat to any future revolutionaries.
In 1876, the Escola de Minas (Mines School) was created. This school established the technological foundation for several of the mineral discoveries in Brazil.
Ouro Preto was capital of Minas Gerais from 1720 until 1897, when the needs of government outgrew this town in the valley. The state government was moved to the new, planned city of Belo Horizonte.
Ouro Preto is also a university town with an intense student life. The Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (Federal University of Ouro Preto or UFOP) has approximately 13,000 students. Many of them live in communal houses that are somewhat similar to fraternity houses as found in North American colleges. These communal or shared houses are called repúblicas, of which 66 belong to the university, called repúblicas federais, and 250 are privately owned (repúblicas particulares).
The repúblicas system of Ouro Preto in unique in Brazil. No other university city in the country has exactly the same characteristics of the student lodging found there. In many ways, the lodging is similar to that found in Portuguese universities such as the Coimbra and the tradition may have come from there. Before universities were founded in Brazil, Coimbra was where most of the rich students who could afford an overseas education went to. Each república has its own different history. There are repúblicas in which the freshmen, also known as bixos (misspelling of bichos, Portuguese for animals), have to undergo a hazing period, called batalha (battle), before being accepted permanently as residents of the houses. The final choice of the freshmen, called escolha, has to be unanimous among the senior students of the house.
The Museu Mineralógico Da Escola De Minas (Mineralogy Museum) can be of special interest to visitors. It belongs to the Mining School of the prestigious UFOP. The School opened its doors on 12 October 1823. The Museum is located at the Praça Tiradentes (No. 20), in the town's historical center, and contains a rich assortment of minerals on display, including precious and semi-precious gemstones and large crystals. Security is tight, however (for example, no cameras are allowed), due to the incalculable value of the gemstones and ores on display.

First Year in Brazil – Strengths and Challenges
We moved our family of 7 from the USA to Brazil 1 year ago. It hasn’t been easy but totally worth it. We always talked about how cool it would be to live abroad and expose our children to a new culture, language and way of life. So instead of just dreaming about it, we actually did it. Brazil has pushed us out of our comfort zone in so many ways. There have been moments of complete frustration, confusion and mistakes. But there have been even more times of great adventures, excitement, growth and bliss. No matter how hard it gets, it feels so good to be living our dream. We don’t regret moving to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil one bit and we plan to stay for another 4 years. We want to open more Big Jumps, travel all around Brazil and become fluent in Portuguese. We will keep posting videos of our adventures and experiences. We love Brazil and feel so blessed to be here. Video 86
