Scotland's Islands
Check your local public television station for this Rick Steves’ Europe episode or watch it on We'll begin on the tranquil Isle of Iona, where Christianity first reached the shores of Scotland. Then we'll visit another of the Inner Hebrides, road-tripping across the Isle of Skye, where we'll explore Iron Age forts, peat fields, a venerable distillery, thatched crofter huts, and the dramatic Trotternish Peninsula. Finally, we'll sail to Orkney — more Nordic than Celtic — with its stony remnants of a thriving Iron Age civilization and evocative reminders of the 20th-century wartime harbor at Scapa Flow.

We took a road (and ferry) trip north to Orkney Islands and I was able to get three walks in. This first one is along the northern coast near the Brough of Birsay. We saw arctic terns and gulls and the Whale Bone as well as cows and sheep and STUNNING views. The wind was strong but hopefully not to bad with the audio. We were staying in our Vacation Rental accommodation nearby. At this far north lattitude, the sun is out until almost midnight but it makes the colors so vibrant. I hope you enjoy this walking treadmill video workout and virtual tour of this little section of coast.
From Wikipedia:
Orkney - (Old Norse: Orkneyjar), also known as the Orkney Islands, is an archipelago in the Northern Isles of Scotland, situated off the north coast of the isle of Great Britain. Orkney is 10 miles (16 km) north of the coast of Caithness and comprises approximately 70 islands, of which 20 are inhabited. The largest island, Mainland, is often referred to as the Mainland, and has an area of 523 square kilometres (202 sq mi), making it the sixth-largest Scottish island and the tenth-largest island in the British Isles. The largest settlement and administrative centre is Kirkwall.
Brough of Birsay - The Brough of Birsay is an uninhabited tidal island off the north-west coast of The Mainland of Orkney, Scotland, in the parish of Birsay. It is located around 13 miles north of Stromness and features the remains of Pictish and Norse settlements as well as a modern light house. The Old Norse name for the island was Byrgisey which means fort island, and gives the parish its name. Brough, indeed, means fort.

3 Days in Orkney Island - Scotland
Our BLOG DEBUT days2explore.com !
Together we explore the world!!
Mengapa Orkney ?
The Heart of Neolithic Orkney” .
4. Ring of Brodgar
Dikenal sebagai ‘Light in the North’.
6. Earl’s Palace
IMPORTANT NOTES :
* Visa yang di butuhkan : Visa Inggris (UK)
* Mata uang : Poundsterling (GBP)

Edinburgh – Fort William! Enjoy a Long Weekend by Train
Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland has an abundance of attractions, including; Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Dungeons, Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Edinburgh Gin Distillery. After exploring Edinburgh catch a 5hr train to Fort William in the Highlands of Scotland, to soak up the incredibly landscapes. Take a ride on the Nevis Range Gondola or take a boat tour with Crannog Cruises or indulge and have afternoon tea in the stunning setting of Inverlochy Castle.
Single Shot Scotland - Yesnaby Castle
On the west coast of Orkney, this impressive feature adds character to the renowned red sandstone cliff scenery. The Yesnaby Castle Sea Stack is often scaled by the experienced climbers but is well worth a visit even to just gaze its sheer size and unique appearance. Located only 12 minutes from Stromness, the stack is a must visit when in the area.
Orkney is overflowing with wildlife, stunning beaches, immaculate scenery and fascinating history to uncover. Made up of around 70 islands north of Scotland, it is home to a unique culture and history with an impressive Viking cathedral, fishing port, its own distillery and much more to explore.
