Hillswick is a small village in Northmavine, on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and lies to the north-north west of Mainland, Shetland, the most northerly group of islands in the United Kingdom. It is situated 35 mi from Lerwick. There is a community shop, a blacksmiths, a public hall, a health centre, and a Church of Scotland kirk that is now mainly used for funerals, weddings and christenings. Jarlshof is the best known prehistoric archaeological site in Shetland, Scotland. It lies near the southern tip of the Shetland Mainland and has been described as one of the most remarkable archaeological sites ever excavated in the British Isles. It contains remains dating from 2500 BC up to the 17th century AD. The Bronze Age settlers left evidence of several small oval houses with thick stone walls and various artefacts including a decorated bone object. The Iron Age ruins include several different types of structures, including a broch and a defensive wall around the site. The Pictish period provides various works of art including a painted pebble and a symbol stone. Old Photographs Scalloway Shetland Islands Scotland

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Scalloway the largest settlement on the North Atlantic coast of Mainland, the largest island of the Shetland Islands. To the Hanseatic merchants from Bremen and Hamburg, Scalloway was known as Schaldewage, and as a good sheltered harbour on the route to Hillswick. Barbara Tulloch and her daughter Ellen, the last witches to be burned in Shetland, were executed on Gallow Hill, overlooking the village. During World War II, Scalloway was the home base for, and housed for some time the headquarters of The Shetland Bus, part of the Norwegian resistance against the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany. Scalloway Castle was built in 1600 by Patrick Stewart, 2nd Earl of Orkney. The remains of the castle are the most notable feature of the village, located near the quay.

The competition took place on March 3 and 4, 2019. The Special Group of the Samba Schools Parade always happen on Sunday and Monday which is before Tuesday of carnival (mobile holiday that occurs 47 days before Easter, and which this year it is on March 5). On both nights, the parade starts at 9 o'clock and ends at sunrise.
