Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Castelsardo
Castelsardo is a town and comune in Sardinia, Italy, located in the northwest of the island within the Province of Sassari, at the east end of the Gulf of Asinara. Archaeological excavations have showed the human presence in the area of Castelsardo since pre-Nuragic and Nuragic times, as well as during the Roman domination in Sardinia.
After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the monastery of Nostra Signora di Tergu was founded nearby, but the current town originates from the castle built here, in 1102 (or 1270), by the Doria family of Genoa.
The castle and the village which gradually formed round it where the seat of the Doria's fiefdom in the island called Castel Doria or Castelgenovese, until it was conquered by the Aragonese in the 15th century (1448), and named Castillo Aragonés (Castel Aragonese). Except for the Maddalena archipelago, it was the last city in the island to join the Kingdom of Sardinia. Castelsardo, now part of the Savoy's Kingdom of Sardinia, obtained its current name by will of King Charles Emmanuel III.

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Badesi
Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Badesi
Badesi is a comune in the Province of Sassari in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 200 kilometres north of Cagliari and about 50 kilometres west of Olbia. Badesi borders the following municipalities Trinità d'Agultu e Vignola, Valledoria, Viddalba. Peaceful and akin to paradise, the little fishing village of Badesi lies at the border of the Anglona and Gallura areas of Northern Sardinia. Characterised by pristine white sand beaches that spread for kilometers, Badesi is a picturesque hamlet that seems to have leaped out of a watercolor painting entitled “Mediterranean Bliss”.
The virgin beaches are covered with juniper, and the Mistral wind playfully caresses its idly rolling sands. Somewhere in the distance, you can even spot the beautiful island of Asinara and Parco Nazionale dell’Asinara. What it lacks in size, Badesi makes up for regarding natural beauty and rich biodiversity. In recent years, the place has seen an upwards surge in tourist influx. People from all over the world travel to Badesi every year for several reasons, some want to surf on the sea waves, some want to sample the local cuisine and wines, and some want to gaze at the numerous migratory birds that head over to the region every winter. Some want to just laze around on the white sands while others want to immerse themselves in the tranquil beauty of the mesmerizing village.
Whatever may the purpose of your visit be, Badesi will gift you with memories that you cherish forever. The province of Badesi gained independence from Aggius only in 1969. Thus, the evolution of the picture-perfect village began very recently. The first settlers in the region adopted sheep-farming as their main occupation, and gradually four hamlets came to being around the Badesi highlands. The region is drained by the estuary of River Coghinas with its species of rare reeds and a breed of fluvial islands. Thus, Badesi is blessed with a rich and diverse flora and fauna that has added on to its charm enabling it to attract a large number of tourists from all over the world.

Places to see in ( Villasimius - Italy )
Places to see in ( Villasimius - Italy )
Villasimius is a coastal town in southeast Sardinia, Italy. The Marine Protected Area Capo Carbonara has barracuda, seagrass meadows and dive sites. Nearby, the Stagno di Notteri lagoon is visited by migrating flamingos in winter. Starting from the beach of Porto Giunco, the Sentiero delle Cave path leads to a 16th-century watchtower. West are the medieval Old Fortress and the white-sand Spiaggia del Riso beach. Approximately 31 miles from the Port of Cagliari and from Elmas Airport in southern Sardinia, is Villasimius, one of the most sought-out resort localities on the Mediterranean. It is rather well-known for its concentration of singular, golden-white beaches, transparent water, intense perfumes of the myrtle plant, of juniper and Scotch broom, and for its accommodation of every type of tourist.
The territory of Villasimius extends from the mountain chain of the Seven Brothers (Sette Fratelli) to the coasts of the Capo Carbonara Promontory. Of course these mountains are of an incomparable beauty (Mt. Minni Minni, accessible on foot or on bike, offers a striking panorama over the surrounding terrain); however, the beaches are the main attraction. Campulongu, Simius and Porto Giunco Beaches are the most coveted by those who want to enjoy a full day with their families or friends, to fish or surf, sunbathe and swim toward the sunset. And they have a wide choice at that: 20 beaches are dispersed throughout the 20 miles of coast in Villasimius, where tourists will find everything from agritourisms to more lux accommodations. They can even camp or rent a private villa.
Villasimius’s urban center – just under a mile from Simius Beach - boasts an archaeological museum and a touristic port, and its summer calendar is an annual explosion of music, folkloristic and enogastronomic festivals. Villasimius is also known for its religious festivals, along with its honey and local wine production, its amaretti sardi (almond cookies), and formaggelle (a Sardinian sweet made with pecorino ricotta, also known as Pardulas).
Villasimius is also made up of two islands: l'Isola dei Cavoli, or Cabbage Island, so-called for the abundant presence of cabbage, and Isola di Serpentara, which derives from the island’s serpent-like form. A rather fascinating boat procession takes place on Cabbage Island every third Sunday in July; the boats are heavily-decorated as they move toward the marine statue of the Virgin, Protectress of Sailors (or the Madonna del Naufrago). After a crown of flowers is launched to sea, a team of scuba-divers plunges to the seabed as a priest recites a mass that can be heard with underwater speakers.

Alghero, Italy
Recorded August 25, 2008.
Alghero is a town of about 42,000 inhabitants on the Italian island of Sardinia. Alghero a town of Spanish origins on Italian territory, considered by many to be the most fascinating on the island. The Spanish domination lasted over four hundred years, leaving clear marks in the intriguing Old Town architecture and in the locally spoken dialect. Bound on seaward by great stone bastion walls and guarded to landward by a series of stone towers. Alghero's old churches and small squares are connections in a network of narrow paved and cobbled streets. The town, sublime by day, becomes enchanting while strolling along the old walls at sunset. A bustling town, it offers more than just beautiful white sandy beaches and crystalline waters; tradition combined with modernity and a mild climate make it a fascinating place to visit all year round.
This video begins as we sail to shore from the Sea Princess on a tender boat. Once in Alghero we take a drive along the beach and then visit the historic old town. After the visit to the Church of San Francesco there is a nice walk along the sea wall with beautiful views of the Mediterranean on one side and the beautiful town of Alghero on the other. The video concludes on the Sea Princess as we sail away from the island and head for Mallorca.
