Places to see in ( Reims - France )
Places to see in ( Reims - France ) Reims
Reims is a city in northeastern France's Grand Est region. It's the unofficial capital of the Champagne wine-growing region, and many of the champagne houses headquartered there offer tastings and cellar tours. For more than 1,000 years, French kings were crowned at its Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims. This grand cathedral is known for its stained-glass windows and Gothic carved portals, including the Smiling Angel.
Reims (sometimes spelled Rheims in English), a city in northern France, is perhaps best known for its world heritage listed cathedral, where generations of French kings were crowned. It is also the largest city in the Champagne area and some the champagne cellars located in the city are likewise inscribed on the world heritage list.
Reims, the home of champagne (the most celebrated and celebratory wine in the world), is the main city of the Champagne area. It is a charming city, and one that the French hold dear to their hearts. There stands one of the most beautiful buildings of the Middle Ages in Europe, one that is filled with history: almost all French kings were crowned there for about 1,000 years. Most of the old houses were destroyed during World War I, and the city was extensively rebuilt in the 1920's in an Art Deco style.
No matter what you have read, nothing can prepare you for that first skyward glimpse of Reims’ gargantuan Gothic cathedral. Rising golden and imperious above the city, the cathedral is where, over the course of a millennium (816 to 1825), some 34 sovereigns – among them two dozen kings – began their reigns. Meticulously restored after WWI and again following WWII, Reims is endowed with handsome pedestrian boulevards, Roman remains, art-deco cafes and a flourishing fine-dining scene that counts among it four Michelin-starred restaurants. Along with Épernay, it is the most important centre of Champagne production, and a fine base for exploring the Montagne de Reims Champagne Route.

Meet the new Parisian water fountains!
Everyone knows the iconic Wallace fountains, a gift to the city of Paris by English art collector and philanthropist Richard Wallace in the second half of the 19th century, when water supplies had been damaged during the siege of Paris by Prussia (leading to the French defeat of 1870,) and the Commune insurrection in1871. The rumor has it the City of Paris is planning to phase the iconic fountains out, (cue in uproar, as these fountains are an integral part of the Paris cityscape.) There are several types of fountains in the French capital. In 2018, Paris introduced fountains dispensing flat and sparkling water. They can be hard to find. I used one in le Parc Montsouris (14th arrondissement) last year, and found another one by popular Canal St Martin earlier this week. L' eau pétillante (sparkling water) is delicious and super refreshing -- as les Riverains (locals) know full well. Drink up!
Tutorial / Things to remember:
- une fontaine publique (water fountain managed by the city)
- eau plate, referred to as eau fraîche on this fountain, (flat water)
- eau gazeuse, eau pétillante (sparking water)
- famous French brands of eau plate (Evian, Vittel)
- famous brands of eau gazeuse (Vichy, Perrier, San Pellegrino.)

IFRANE. MOROCCO.
Morocco's Switzerland.
Ifrane is a town in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains. Voted the second cleanest city in the world in 2013.
It’s known for its alpine-style architecture and nearby ski slopes and forests. A stone statue of a lion near leafy Parc la Prairie is a well-known landmark. Just outside town, Ain Vittel is a spring with several waterfalls. To the west, Ifrane National Park, with its Atlas cedar forests, is home to rare Barbary macaques
As foreign tourists head to the medinas for a taste of the ‘real’ Morocco, Moroccan tourists find more favour with places such as Ifrane. Tidy, ordered and modern, it feels more like Switzerland relocated to the Middle Atlas than North Africa. Its clean air, scrubbed streets and leafy outlook make it popular with tour groups.
The French built Ifrane in the 1930s, deliberately trying to re-create an alpine-style resort. It has neat red-roofed houses, blooming flower beds and lake-studded parks. It is a popular summer day trip for picnickers; in the winter, the affluent flock here to ski, and the hoi polloi come for the pure fun of throwing snowballs.

We had a light lunch early and ventured into Paris in The Dinkmobile, which is a 1995 Citröen ZX Flash. It is a hot day so we closed up our apartment and the shutters and all and took a chance, hoping to visit the Quai de Branly (sp?) museum in Central Paris. We got parking, saw some fascinating shows, and got back okay.
The Quai de Branley (sp?) museum in Paris is new. For reasons not clear to us, we did not have to stand in any lines nor pay. Go figure!
This whole area around the Eiffel Tower is full of museums. It is really fun to walk around in. The River Seine is right there. I did not partake of the gift shop here nor did we visit the café but there is a full restaurant here also called LES OMBRES which means the shadows. There is a pretty garden, rather tropical in feeling and behind a huge glass wall. That keeps out the traffic noise. The guy who designed this also did the Cartier center in Paris which is a lovely museum space. Fondation Cartier.
You can just take a métro to Trocadéro; this is a no-brainer, people.
The main stuff being show today was in connection with Dogon, which is an area in Africa, and also with Mayan culture but the lines were pretty long for the latter so we just saw just about everything else.
It is definitely daft to do what we do, taking our car into Paris for culture safaris! We just accept the fact that if traffic is bad or we cannot find free legal parking, we will have to give up. But that seldom happens; in fact I cannot think of when it ever has. We started this journey during high Sunday lunch hour which is a good idea. If you are a tourist, I recommend you just visit a Franprix in the morning or a good bakery and buy some jambon buerre sandwiches, buttered ham, as they keep quite well even in hot weather for some reason, for many hours, and get a piece of fruit, carry water, maybe even get a flan or other pastry? And then picnic it, using the toilet in a bar and sitting outside and perhaps enjoying a cold drink or a hot coffee later. I think the coffee is dreadful here and this is not a soda culture, but you might want to try a Vittel menthe, which is mint syrup in cool Vittel water. If you stand at the bar, au zinc it is cheaper but it's a fun indulgence to sit at a table and be served, though you will pay about double for that. Please do not trouble bars or restaurants for free use of their toilets. If you do not want alcohol you can just buy a petit limonade au zinc, that is 7 up. The public toilets tend to be free a bit more but they also tend to be squat type. Carry a packet of tissues with you and do not forget your bottle of water!

This part one of two ends in Station Luxembourg.
Part two starts in Station Luxembourg, and the journey will be continued towards Thionville (France) , Metz (France), Nancy (France), Vittel.... France....
The video is without music, but train travel lovers know that the sound of trains IS music.... all adds would disturb the atmosphere......

Traveling by train offers the opportunity to meet people, to contact, to inform, to unite.
Traveling by train is one of the most excellent ecological ways to travel: that means that this way of travelling is supporting nature, environment, and so: mankind.
