Looking Back at My First Year in Taiwan!
In this video, I look back at my first year in Taiwan and how life was back then, over ten years ago.
I have briefly touched on some of my initial experiences in some of my previous videos, but I thought it’d be a good idea to put them all into one fluid and coherent video.

Nature’s Wonders : Yehliu Geopark, Taiwan
Yehliu is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan in the town of Wanli, famous for its stunning geological landscape. The unique rocks are concentrated at a region called the Yeliu Geopark - a 1,700 meter-long peninsula jutting out into the ocean and dotted with strange rock formation. The rock formations have been given imaginative names based on their shapes. The most well-known is the The Queen's Head, an iconic image in Taiwan and an unofficial emblem for the town of Wanli. Other formations include The Fairy Shoe, The Bee Hive, The Ginger Rocks and The Sea Candles.
Taipei - Yehliu Geopark
Visit the unique Yehliu Geopark from Taipei.
Rare hoodoo stones, rock spires and sedimentary formations make up Yehliu Geopark, located about a two-hour drive from Taipei on a cape in Wanli Taiwan. Spend several hours wandering the natural landscape while snapping photos of this park that travelers say looks “otherworldly”.

Inside Taiwan's UFO houses 万里弃弃
Finally I made it to Wanli to check these out - sadly Taiwan's larger and more famous pod village in Sanzhi has long since been demolished. I wasn't expecting to see that some of these houses, though not the iconic yellow ones, have been renovated and are being used again. It's a nice area apart from the abundance of mosquitoes, though it seems like a massively over-ambitious project from a time when there can't have been much demand for a resort like this. The second 'UFO' house I went inside seemed to have been squatted in recently from the coins and clothes lying around. The whole complex is surprisingly close to a lot of other, more modern developments and a popular beach.

Travel in Taiwan Sept./Oct. 2017
Yehliu Geopark, on Taiwan’s north coast near Keelung City, has long been one of the top tourist draws on this island. Up to three million visitors a year can’t be wrong; the park’s unique rock formations and unrivaled scenery make it a place well worth visiting. Another part of the Yehliu experience is Yehliu Ocean World, an oceanarium both educational and entertaining.
Taking up a thin spit of land projecting out into the sea in New Taipei’s City’s Wanli District is Yehliu Geopark, a cape formed by geological forces pushing the Datun Mountain Range, which runs east-west along the north coast, up and out of the sea. Today, parts of the narrow 1.7 kilometer-long promontory look as though they're one rough wave away from being taken by the sea, but luckily for visitors the shoreline is holding its ground.
The park is best known for its unique rock formations, most prominent among them the various hoodoo stones that dot the almost alien-looking landscape, jutting out of the sedimentary rock in delicate spires boasting precariously balanced heads upon their thin necks.
The main attraction for most tourists, as evidenced by the invariably long, snaking lineups each day, is the hoodoo stone known as the Queen's Head, supposedly named for its likeness to the ancient Egyptian queen Nefertiti or England’s Queen Elizabeth I. According to recent stats, as many as three million tourists visit Yehliu Geopark and the Queen’s Head every year, though since the number of tourists from mainland China has declined recently, there might be fewer visitors these days.
Photographic evidence has shown that over time the beloved monarch's thin, tapered neck has been eroding ever so slowly, stirring up debate as to whether technology should be used to save the “head” or if nature should be allowed to take its course. Some experts say the 4,000-year-old structure could, through exposure to the elements and the cruelties of erosion, topple any time between 2020 and 2025; some go even further, saying that the next strong typhoon or earthquake could take it down.
There are also many other Yehliu Geopark geological features worth having a closer look at, whether you're an amateur rock hound, an aspiring geologist, or just in search of the most peculiar rock formations to use as selfie backgrounds. Among these are mushroom rocks, so named for their low-slung caps potted with indentations made by the acidic secretions of sea creatures that clamped on them in eons past when the stones were under the ocean’s surface. And there are pothole micro-ecosystems, ginger rocks, sea candles, and trilobite fossils well preserved in the bedrock protruding from the sea.
I Found An Abandoned UFO Village in Taiwan (HD Version)
The Sanzhi UFO houses was a famous beach house development in New Taipei City, Taiwan featuring futuristic space pod living spaces that were abandoned and never completed. Eventually they were demolished in 2008. Who knows if Sanzhi, or this other beach house development I discovered in Northern Taiwan through research and first-hand accounts were beach developments or simply a cover up and ultimately destruction of evidence that extraterrestrial life at one time was present in Taiwan. One story behind this development involves a soda pop tycoon's investment in a beach house community in the 70's made up of futuro and venturo homes that failed and subsequently were also abandoned. Like the main character in the novel and movie adaptation filmed on location in Taiwan, Life Of Pi, I ask you which story would you prefer? The failed attempts at real estate development by Taiwanese millionaires, or aliens seeking to establish beach front communities while enjoying the rich culture, amazing food, night markets, hot springs, great health care, and a new hope on Ila Formosa, the beautiful island. You decide!
