Here are 15 things to do if it's your first time in Taiwan. I know we could have done a lot more things like ride the Maokong Gondola among other more exciting activities but we had my father with us who is 70 years old so we were kinda limited to doing easier and more convenient things. This trip was my birthday gift to him.
We will definitely go back and do my coffee crawl.

We start the day with a traditional Taiwanese breakfast of savoury soy milk, youtiou (deep fried dough fritters) and fluffy dumplings. This local spot churns out bowls of delicious savoury soy milk flavoured with chilli oil, sesame oil, tiny dried shrimp and pickles. Accompanied by an oily dough fritter and freshly made dumplings stuffed with chives and pork and cabbage it is the perfect first spot on our street food tour.
We then head to a local street side xiao long bao joint. This place offers up baskets of freshly steamed soup dumplings which we dip in vinegar and top with shredded ginger. The family who operate this eatery make the xiao long bao fresh, rolling the dumpling wrappers and stuffing them with a juicy, flavoursome pork filling. The wrappers are slightly thick but the flavour of the filling more than makes up for this!
Next up we stop for braised duck at a local institution Duck Zhen. The duck is served cold alongside shredded raw ginger. We eat the duck with bowls of rice topped with more slices of braised duck and drizzled with saucy braised pork belly together with some blanched cabbage.
It’s then time for a snack- a gua bao from a popular local joint. The gua bao is a steamed bun which sandwiches a thick slice of braised pork belly and topped with coriander and crushed peanuts. This one is simple and as far from the tricked up versions you often see- DELICIOUS.
Onwards to our final stop a bowl of shaved ice which helps beat the Taiwan heat! Taro, glutinous rice balls, tapioca balls, grass jelly and pineapple is loaded into a bowl and topped with hand ground shaved ice and sugar syrup. It’s textural, refreshing and tasty!

Amazing Taiwanese Breakfast in Taipei | Yonghe Soy Milk 永和豆漿
Welcome to another food VLOG here in Taipei, Taiwan. My wife and I traveled back up to Taipei yesterday and were very excited for all of the awesome food options and things to eat in Taipei. One of the things we were most looking forward to was the Taiwanese breakfast. Fortunately, there was a very popular breakfast shop nearby our hostel in Ximen, Taipei.
The shop is called Yonghe Soy Milk 永和豆漿. It is not the same as the more large chain Yonghe Soy Milk King, which is also very popular.

I love everything about the breakfast here in Taiwan. I really love eggs and soy milk, so this is my type of breakfast. Needless to say, we stopped by here a few more times during our trip and we couldn't get enough of all of the amazing delicious food.

Many people often ask me if learning Chinese is difficult and why I chose to apply to come and learn Chinese in Taiwan. This is the inspiration behind my video. Although it it s simple question, there are many elements to the answer.
I hope my video, filmed in a documentary style will give a glimpse into my life and experiences in Taiwan. I wanted to show my real friends, real food and real places I had visited.
Learning Chinese is more than a classroom activity and I hope the viewer will be able to get a sense of this and a feel for my overall experience in these past two months.
Street Food Heaven at Tonghua Night Market in Taipei, Taiwan
After a long 90km cycling ride from Taipei to Tamsui and back, my wife Thuong and I returned to Taipei, meeting a new friend and fan (Quinn) on the way back. We decided to get some awesome Taiwanese food together at the nearby Tonghua Night Market
(通化夜市), otherwise known as Linjiang Street (臨江街).
Taiwan is famous for their night markets and street food, and Quinn is an expert on the local food here in Taipei and helped introduce a lot of goodies.
We had a blast enjoying the atmosphere and different foods, including oyster omelette, dumplings, and big hot Taiwanese sausages.
