Ajinkyatara is a fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Satara in the Sahayadri Mountains of Maharashtra, India. It is a 16th-century fort.
The fort is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain, which is 3,300 feet high.
Access to Ajinkyatara is possible by road (2 hours from Pune, 4 hours from Mumbai), train (the nearest station is Satara Road)

This temple is fallen in ruins, and has its own charm!
I stumbled across this Hindu temple, when i was at the fort!

Ajinkyatara (मराठी:अजिंक्यतारा) ( meaning The Impregnable Star) is a fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Satara in the Sahayadri Mountains of Maharashtra, India. It is a 16th-century fort that was called Ajimtara during Aurangzeb regime and was based on Aurangzeb son's name, Ajim. Marathi novelist Narayan Hari Apte named the fort Ajinkyatara, when he wrote his first novel on the same name, first published in 1909.[1] Now it also holds the television tower for the city of Satara. This fort has been the place where several pivotal moments in Maratha history took place.
The fort is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain, which is 3,300 feet high.
In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara, which remained with the Marathas till 1818. The Ajinkyatara fort is a major historic place of Maharashtra, and was vital as one could keep watch over the entire south Maharashtra.
This was the place where Tarabai was imprisoned by Shahu.

The fort is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain, which is 3,300 feet high. As the fort is in the higher altitude, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the entire Satara city.
In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara, which remained with the Marathas till 1818. The Ajinkyatara fort is a major historic place of Maharashtra, and was very vital as one could keep watch over the entire South Maharashtra.
One can easily reach Ajinkyatara by road, train or plane.
By road – It is 2 hours from Pune, 4 hours from Mumbai and 3 hours from Kolhapur.
By train – Nearest station is Satara Road, and major station is Pune.
By plane – Nearest airport is Pune, and nearest international airport is Mumbai.
Bara Motechi Vihir (Historic Well) near Limb - Satara - Built in 1646 by Shahu Maharaj and Virubhai Bhosale. The well is octogonal in shape and was built to look like dug-out shivling. It is 110 ft deep and 50 foot in diameter. This historic well was said to provide water a huge amrai (Mango plantation) with its 12 moats. There are four sculptures of tigers on the inner side of octogonal well. The staircase leads to the grand entrance arch below the ground level. Two secret ways from second arch leads to Mahal/gallery. The gallery is open both sides, one inside the well and second towards main entrance. Above the Mahal/Gallaries place of Throne is situated.

The fortress is also mentioned in Nathmadhav novel Veer Dhaval, in which the eponymous protagonist, a vassal of the chalukyas is the rightful master of the fort (and takes final possession of it at the novel's end) which has been under the misrule of his uncle Chanda Varma, who usurped the fort after murdering the protagonist's father Keerti Varma.

Ajinkyatara is a fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of in Satara, Maharashtra. The fort is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain, which is 3,300 feet high. As the fort is in the higher altitude, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the entire Satara city. There are number of water tanks inside the fort for storing water. So, there is no scarcity of water even as the fort is in the higher place. In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara, remained with the Marathas till 1818. It is a 16th Century fort and now also holds the television tower for the city of Satara. Visitors can also visit the temples of Devi Mangalai, Lord Shankar and Lord Hanuman on the northeast side of the fort.

Sajjangad (Marathi: सज्जनगड), meaning Fort of Good People, is located near the city of Satara, India. It is the final resting place of Sant Ramdas in 17th century India (born 1608). His teachings and works written in books such as Dasbodh are read and followed by many people even today in the state of Maharashtra and Sajjangad is a popular place of pilgrimage.
This fort was known by the name of Asvalayana Rishi, since he lived here for many years in ancient times. Then it was called Aswalya gad due to the number of Aswals or bears wandering there. The fort was made by Bahamani Emperors in between (1347-1527). After that in (1527-1686) it came under Adilshah dynasty. Mughal king defeated Adilshah and the fort came under Mughal rule. This fort was captured by King Shivaji on 2 April 1663 from Adilshah. Previously known as Parali, it was renamed to Sajjangad. Fateullahakhan's army encircled the fort on 21 April 1700 and finally captured it on 6 June 1700. After it became the part of Mughal empire, it was renamed as Navrastara. This fort was again won by Marathas. The fort was captured by British in 1818.
The maintenance of the fort and the Samadhi (final resting place) of Sadguru Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami is taken care by 'Shri Ramdas Swami Sansthan', a trust which has existed since the time of Shri Ramdas Swami. The daily routine of the trustees on the fort includes morning prayers, Abhishek and Puja, Maha Naivedya, Bhajans and reading of the manuscript Dasbodh written by Sant Ramdas. The fort is open for devotees from 5.00am to 9.00pm.(all days). Entry and exit beyond these hours is restricted. In the afternoon and at night, devotees are served free of cost food (Prasad) by Shri Ramdas Swami Sansthan. The trust also provides free of cost accommodation for devotees who wish to stay overnight on the fort. Every year during Shiv Jayanti thousands of devotees visit the shrine by walking up to it.

1.Ajinkyatara Fort
Ajinkyatara Fort is one of the major tourist destinations located in the heart of Satara City of Maharashtra. Situated atop Ajinkyatara Mountain, at an altitude of 1006 m above sea level, Ajinkyatara Fort offers a panoramic view of Satara City. Ajinkyatara Fort, built by Raja Bhoj of the Shilhar Dynasty, is surrounded by thick walls which are 4 m high. The fort is also referred to as the 'Fort of the Sapta-Rishi' and can be observed from the hill of Yawateshwar, which is 5 km away from Satara City.
2.Thosegarh
Thosegarh, famous for its waterfalls, is a popular picnic spot located in the Satara District of Maharashtra at a distance of 36 km from Satara city.
3.Kaas Plateau
Kaas Plateau is a popular tourist attraction located in Satara District of Maharashtra, at a distance of 25 km from Satara City. Popularly known as the ‘Plateau of Flowers’, Kaas Plateau is a popular picnic spot among nature lovers, especially during late monsoons.

The Shivsagar Lake, is a reservoir in the state of Maharashtra, India. The lake was formed after the Koyna River was impounded by the Koyna Dam. It has a length of 50 km and depth of 80 m

Char Bhinti is another important historical place in Satara. Situated on the way to Ajinkyatara Fort, this hill offers a good view of Satara city.While on one side one can see Satara city, on the other side there is Ajinkyatara fort. There are two historical links to this place.Char Bhinti i.e. four walls were constructed by Chhatrapati Pratapsinh Maharaj in 1830.This place is also called as Najar Bangala. This place was constructed to offer a good view of arriaval of Chhatrapati to the family members (ladies) during Vijay Dashami (Dasara) celebrations.
9.Kaas Lake
Kaas Lake or Kaas Talav, a popular tourist attraction of the region, is located in Satara District of Maharashtra and is situated at a distance of 26 km from Satara City. Kaas Lake, which lies at an altitude of 1067 m above sea level, is an artificial lake.
10.Wai pilgrim
Wai is a popular pilgrim spot located in Satara District of Maharashtra, on the banks of River Krishna, at a distance of 35 km from Satara. Wai, known as the Deccan Kashi, is famous for its temples and seven Ghats built on the river banks.
