The park requires planning to get to it, but once you are there, you are greeted by an amazing amount of adventures. In this video we hike most of the Scorpion side of the islands main hikes as well as visit the historic ranch and meet the island foxes. Scott brought the scuba crew down to the Channel Islands for an awesome weekend of diving aboard the Spectre. Here's part one of two - watch for playful sea lions, sheepshead, garibaldi, lobsters, shrimp, gobies, señoritas, huge shoals of blacksmith, and a bunch of sea hares getting... busy.

Springtime at Anacapa Island, Channel Islands National Park
In the springtime, Anacapa Island becomes alive with a colorful display of wildflowers, featuring the native giant coreopsis. Also, many western gulls begin congregating on the island, preparing for the breeding season.
On March 21, 2009, this trip began with a one-hour boat ride from the mainland. After arriving at the landing cove, we had about 2-3 hours to leisurely explore the island's hiking trails (which total about 2 miles in length).

08/12/2012 Anacapa Island, Channel Islands National Park
The last version of this video was, frankly, boring. *I* was bored watching it. This cut's a lot more fun, with a lot more life. It's much more representative of the dive. I've included a minor traffic jam of divers under a swim-through. As others have noted, check out the absurd number of salps (those clear, free-floating, octopus-tentacle-looking things in the water.) They're chains of colonial tunicates - filter feeders adrift in the sea. They're pretty beautiful, but have an annoying habit of getting stuck between your regulator and upper lip. Yech!
Taking Island Packers Boat to Anacapa Island
Seven of us took the Island Packers boat to Anacapa Island for photographs, video and just fun. It was a great day with reasonable seas and nice weather until the wind came up in the afternoon. Still, not bad for a day in early April. The
Giant Coreopsis had come and gone, but the seagulls were just beginning their nesting cycles. All in all, it was a fabulous day.
