Thousands of people in parts of Louisiana are fleeting in anticipation of the opening of the Morganz
HEADLINE: Thousands fleeing in advance of spillway opening
CAPTION: Thousands of people in parts of Louisiana are fleeting in anticipation of the opening of the Morganza spillway. The spillway will be opened as early as Saturday to avert a Mississippi River disaster in places like Baton Rouge and New Orleans. (May 13)
LOUISIANA'S CAJUN COUNTRY IS MIGRATING
BY BOAT
AND VEHICLES
THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE FLEEING TOWNS LIKE BUTTE LAROSE IN ANTICIPATION OF THE OPENING OF THE MORGANZA SPILLWAY- A FLOOD-CONTROL STRUCTURE BETWEEN THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND THE MORGANZA FLOODWAY
THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS IS LIKELY TO OPEN THE SPILLWAY THIS WEEKEND
NEARLY 25 THOUSAND PEOPLE WILL BE IN THE WATERS WAY AFTER THE RELEASE
FLOODING SWAMPS, CROPLANDS, STRUCTURES AND PEOPLES HOMES
THIS ACTION WILL SPARE BATON ROUGE AND NEW ORLEANS FROM POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC FLOODING.
IN BUTTE LAROSE, LOUSIANA- A SMALL FISHING VILLAGE-RESIDENTS ARE PACKING UP AS FAST AS THEY CAN AND GETTING OF TOWN.
THE ARMY CORP OF ENGINEERS JUST HELD A MEETING WITH RESIDENTS
They told us to move as though we were moving, period. Not coming back, not as much leave a toothpick behind.
I am standing here on the levee here in Butte LaRose, Louisiana-If the Morganza Spillway is releases 15 feet of water will come barreling down into this town and it will be here likely for 3 months.
Nobody knows what is going to happen to that spillway. It could be totally demolished where this will be the Mississippi one day.
DOWN THE FAST FLOWING ATCHAFALAYA RIVER- TJ AUCOIN IS LOADING HIS BOAT UP AND HEADING OUT OF THE SPILLWAY.
Everything that we think may be ruined by the water we are taking it out and things that may get looted-normally the sheriffs patrol the river but we don't know what is going to happen.
THOUGH MANY PEOPLE MAY LOSE THEIR HOMES, MOST SEEM TO UNDERSTAND AND ARE ACCEPTING THE DECISION TO SAVE THE MORE POPULATED AREAS.
They gonna have to do, otherwise they gonna floods New Orleans, and that's not going to happen, they won't allow that to happen.
IN THE MEANTIME, LOUSIANA PRISONERS ARE SANDBAGGING THE TOWN AND THE SEARCH FOR HIGHER GROUND CONTINUES

Inside Juvenile Detention
As recently as 2005, the state of Virginia had eight centers like Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Facility, housing more than 1,300 delinquent youth. But by 2017, after a series of reforms, that number had shrunk to one.
“It's not that you can't do good work here,” said Andy Block, who, since 2014, has served as the juvenile-justice department’s director. “But the place itself and the design and the size and the location are barriers to doing good work.” Block and others are working to close Bon Air and replace it with something that reflects the juvenile justice reforms that have taken hold in Virginia and across the country—a system that once focused on confinement is now dedicated to rehabilitation. In recent years, more than 70 percent of Virginia's juvenile inmates were rearrested within three years of their release.*
Read more on The Atlantic:
*This documentary originally stated that Virginia has one of the highest recidivism rates in the country. This characterization was based on incomplete data. The documentary also stated that the three-year rearrest rate for current Bon Air inmates would be 74 percent. This was the rate for former juvenile inmates in Virginia in 2014. We regret the errors.

What Are The Most Common Drug Offenses in New Orleans?
Seth J. Bloom is a criminal defense attorney in the greater New Orleans area. Today he explains the most common drug offenses that he sees from his client cases.
Marijuana is the single most common drug offense in New Orleans. While legal in different forms in other states, Marijuana is not legal in Louisiana. It is also an enhanceable offense, so continued arrests could bring felony charges.
Cocaine, heroin, and MDMA pills are also common. Drugs are not safe to buy or use anywhere in New Orleans, and anyone who is trying to sell you drugs should be avoided.

Where To Get Farm Eggs, Ascension Parish Coffee Talk With Your Real Estate Whisperer
Where To Get Farm Eggs In Louisiana. Hi, I'm Kristina Smallhorn Your Real Estate Whisperer for Ascension Parish. This week we visit an at home chicken coop owned by Crystal Muller. Her backyard chickens lay some really healthy eggs. These chicken farm eggs are amazingly fresh and super yellow in the yolk. So you may be asking what are farm eggs and are they different from yard eggs? Crystal Muller explains that with yard eggs the chickens are free the lay the eggs anywhere in the yard but farm eggs are laid in a chicken coop. Farm eggs are way better than store-bought, you can tell the minute you crack one open and see the golden yellow yolk.
