Tennessee | Nashville Area Shopping Mall Day
Our first full day in the Nashville area, so we decided to take it easy and do some shopping since we travelled with minimal clothes in our luggage so that we could take advantage of the heavily discounted designer outlet stores. An added bonus was the fact that it was Labour Day weekend so the already discounted prices were discounted even further - up to 70% in many cases!
The first place we visited was called The Factory at Franklin which as the name suggests is in the town of Franklin. The building dates back to 1929 where it was once a factory that manufactured cooking and stoves and later on bedding until its closure in 1991. Between 1997-1998 it was rennovated into a unique shopping and entertainment centre, where a lot of the original architectural features are still visible. Not many of the stores were open on the day of our visit as it was a Sunday and also Labour Day weekend, but we could still walk around and and explore the site.
Our second place was the Premium Outlet mall in Lebanon. Premium Outlet's is a chain of malls that exist throughout the United States and represents good choice and value for money when purchasing designer brands. For example a pair of designer branded trousers may cost the equivalent of $80 - $100 a pair in the UK whereas the ticket price in the outlet mall was $55 before any discounts. When you take into acount the heavy discounting from the day the price is reduced to $16 - $20. Hence the reason why the suitcases were virtually empty when we travelled out!
The third and final place was the Opry Mill Mall which is on the outskirts of downtown Nashville (Near the East Side). This mall also has designer brands which are discounted and it was an impressive size! You could quite easily spend a whole day there if you had the money to spend. The mall also had a good range of restaurants which varied in price and setting. We chose to have lunch in the Aquarium Restaurant as it had a massive salt water fish tank as its centre piece and had a out of the ordinary atmosphere. The food was very good quality, though a little on the expensive side for some dishes, but when in Rome!
After the uncomfortable flight the day before I decided to have a 20 minute acupressure massage (20 minutes for $20) within the mall. It was quite relaxing though at times a little painful, but at the end of the session my back and shoulders felt ten times better.
A very enjoyable day, though a shame The Factory was mostly closed as there were some cool stores inside, which would have been worth a look.

The Thompson Hotel in Nashville
We stayed at the Thompson Hotel this past February of 2019 in their Thompson Suite. Beautiful hotel from the lobby to the rooftop bar. Whoever did the design of the hotel did a top notch job. We felt more like we were staying in our own apartment. All the creature comforts of home, and oh wow....That claw foot tub! I also include some footage of when we ventured out of the hotel to Broadway St. and Tootsie's....A must do when you are in Nashville!
America's 2nd War of Independence
In this video, author Brian Kilmeade sheds light on the largely and unfortunately overlooked War of 1812. Kilmeade explains how this war got started, the daunting odds against a nation in its infancy, and the unlikely hero who secured America’s young nation’s future by pulling off one of the greatest upsets in military history.

The United States had to fight not one, but two wars for its independence. The first, of course, was the Revolutionary War.
Can you name the second?
It was the War of 1812.
Now, both wars were against the British. And in both cases, the Americans should have lost.
The Revolutionary War is very much celebrated in American history. The second one has all but been forgotten.
But had it been lost, America’s history would have been much, much different.
The British precipitated the war by failing to recognize the United States as a sovereign nation. For five years between 1807 and 1812, they repeatedly disrupted American commerce, boarding American merchant ships, capturing their sailors—over 5,000 of them—and forcing them to work on British ships.
Finally, President James Madison said, “Enough!” and on June 18, 1812, Congress declared war on Britain. The euphoria didn’t last long. And for good reason. The Americans had no viable strategy, no standing army to speak of, no generals worthy of the rank, a very small navy, a wholly inadequate supply of munitions.
It was a different story on the British side. They had all the men, ships, generals and admirals they needed—and then some. If these upstart Yankees wanted war, the British were only too happy to accommodate them.
Things went pretty much as expected: one American defeat after another, culminating in the burning of Washington, D.C.
The great prize of the war was not the tiny American capital, or even the larger, nearby city of Baltimore. The prize the British wanted was the gateway to the American West, the city at the mouth of the Mississippi River—New Orleans. If Britain controlled this key southern port, it could check American expansion, confining it to the eastern half of the continent for the foreseeable future.
To take New Orleans, the British amassed an enormous sea and land force—60 ships, 10,000 men.
And what could the Americans offer by way of defense? Enter Andrew Jackson, one of the most remarkable figures in American history.
Born in 1767 in the territories of the Carolinas, Jackson first encountered the British during the Revolutionary War. His memories were not happy ones. His mother and his two brothers died in the war. And Jackson himself was left with a permanent scar, the gift of a British officer who slashed him with his sword when the teenage boy refused to clean his boots.
Self-educated, Jackson settled in Nashville, Tennessee. There he became a frontier lawyer and, after Tennessee was admitted to the Union, served briefly as its sole congressman, then as a senator representing the new state.
Though he had no formal military training, Jackson was elected major general of the Tennessee militia and gained fighting experience leading several successful campaigns against the Indians of the region.
He inspired both great loyalty and great fear in the men under his command: loyalty because he fought beside them, enduring every hardship they endured; and fear because he demanded strict military discipline. Given the inherently rebellious, don’t-tread-on-me nature of the frontiersmen under his command, this was no mean feat.
But Jackson had never faced a foe like the British: a highly disciplined, battle-tested army.

Roberts Western world Honky Tonk on Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville Tennessee
A honky tonk is a type of bar with musical entertainment common in the Southwestern and Southern United States, also called honkatonks, honkey-tonks, tonks or tunks. The term has also been attached to various styles of 20th-century American music. As of 2007, honky tonk seems to be the most recognized and mainstream subgenre of country music

NEW 50 States and Capitals Video! | The 50 States and Capitals Song | Silly School Songs
It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here! We have updated our 50 States and Capitals video with a new look, and made corrections based on the feedback you guys so honestly, graciously and sometimes harshly gave us, LOL. We believe that because this video breaks down the 50 states into regions that flow in a logical order, it will be much easier for people to commit all of the states and capitals to memory.
Big shout out to Artist Herron, who provided the animation for this video. Please check out her social media pages:
Enjoy!!!!

Lyrics:
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (2x)
We have six regions, so let's get busy
NORTHEAST! No need to rack your brain
Let's start at the top with Augusta Maine
The next one up is Boston Mass
Massachusetts that is, don't say Mass in class
Montpelier Vermont is simple my friend
There's a mont at the beginning and mont at the end
And then New Hampshire is the state next door
Its capital city is known as Concord
Providence, Rhode Island is small
The funny thing is, it's not an island at all!
And Delaware is just a few states over
Its capital is Dover, yeah we said Dover!
Now that I know that everyone's heard me
Let's move on to Trenton, New Jersey
Albany, New York is next up
And don't forget Hartford Connecticut
After this is Annapolis
It's the capital of Maryland, yes it is
The Northeast region is almost done
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is the final one
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (2x)
We have six regions, so let's get busy
SOUTHEAST!
Starting with the two Virginias
Richmond is the capital of the Old Dominion
West Virginia just as awesome
Their historical capital is known as Charleston
Frankfort, Kentucky is right next door
And Nashville, Tennessee is just below
Raleigh, North Carolina is great
Columbia, South Carolina different state
And next is Montgomery Alabama
The capital of Georgia is Atlanta
Florida's capital is Tallahassee
And then we move west out to Mississippi
Jackson is the capital of that state
Baton Rouge, Louisiana...the boot shape
And that concludes all the Southeast states
But what about the states near the Great Lakes?
Lansing, Michigan will start it all
Then across the Great Lakes we've got St. Paul
That's Minnesota's capital, girls and boys
And next we have Springfield Illinois
Columbus, Ohio comes after this
And Indiana's capital is Indianapolis
And Madison, Wisconsin is the final state
Wrapping up the region we call the Great Lakes
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (2x)
We have six regions, so let's get busy
MIDWEST! The first one we have for y'all
Is Little Rock, capital of Arkansas
Jefferson City, Missouri is grand
Topeka, Kansas in the true heartland
Iowa's capital is Des Moines
Lincoln, Nebraska is the state it joins
North Dakota is rockin it hard
With a capital city that we call Bismarck
Pierre, South Dakota is the one that's left
And these are the states of the Midwest
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (2x)
We have six regions, so let's get busy
SOUTHWEST! Texas is the Lone Star State
And Austin is the capital, no debate
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma follows
And then we head west to Santa Fe, New Mexico
Phoenix, Arizona gonna round it out
And these are the Southwest states, no doubt
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (2x)
We have six regions, so let's get busy
Now let's finish this song with the region called the WEST
And Denver, Colorado where the air is so fresh
Cheyenne, Wyoming sits just above it
Helena, Montana we absolutely love it!
Boise, Idaho is known for their potatoes
Olympia, Washington grows a lot of apples
Carson City, Nevada where the West was won
And then we have Salem, Oregon
And Salt Lake City, Utah is next
Sacramento, California completes the West
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (2x)
We have six regions, so let's get busy
And just when you thought this song was through
Alaska and Hawaii belong here too!
And Hawaii's capital is Honolulu
Alaska's is Juneau but we know that you knew
Now here's an idea that we wanna relate
There is one capital without a state
It's the District of Columbia called DC
It's the capital of the whole country!!!
Who knows the states and the capital cities? (We do, we do) (3x)
We're finished with our song, we're done being busy

Country singers show off their watches at the CMA Awards, BMI Country Awards
(22 Nov 2019) COUNTRY SINGERS SHOW OFF THEIR WATCHES AT THE CMA AWARDS, BMI COUNTRY AWARDS
Break out the bling - the hottest accessory for today's country stars isn't a cowboy hat or boots. It's a Rolex.
The male stars of the genre got to show off their trendy and expensive watches on the red carpets at the CMA Awards and the BMI Country Awards show in Nashville, Tennessee.
Country singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd said he's been learning a lot from Americana artist Jason Isbell, who he's been spending time with lately. (Hurd's wife Maren Morris and Isbell's wife Amanda Shires are both members of the country group The Highwomen).
I wear Cartier Santos, Hurd said. I don't know. Jason Isbell wears a way cooler watch than I wear and I always talked to him about it. But, you know, we go to New York City with those people quite a bit for The Highwomen, with The Highwomen. And Jason and I are kind of like in the same boat. And he's sort of kind of, he got me a little bit more into, you know, some some cool wrist bling. So it's fun to get to do stuff, like dress up for nights like this. And you work really hard to make sure that you're, I'm complimenting Maren (Morris.) And yeah, it's fun to like get to do stuff like this. It's fun to like to get fancy.
Country singer Chase Rice wore a Rolex that belonged to his late father.
My dad passed away about 11 years ago now and so I asked her, I said, 'Mom, do you still have dad's Rolex?' Dumb question. 'I hope you better still have dad's Rolex,' said Rice. And he bought this on, I think, on a cruise line way back. He bought her one and he bought this one. And she said, yeah. I said, 'I love to wear it for the carpet.' So that's what I'm wearing tonight, to honor my dad.
Country trio Midland said they gave watches to their road crew as gifts.
We gave this Timex to our our crew, our team, said Jess Carson.
No, it wasn't a Timex. Those are too expensive, joked Mark Wystratch. Those are Casios. The digital face.
Mitchell Tenpenny was inspired to buy a watch because of another recording artist.
Yeah, I'm a huge watch nerd, said Tenpenny. I've got this is the Rolex, the green, they call it the Hulk. John Mayer. I saw John Mayer with this watch on years ago and I wanted, the second I could get one I wanted it. And finally, the good lord gave us the opportunity to get it and I went and did it. But I love it. John Mayer. Thanks brother.
Country singer Russell Dickerson sported a watch he received after touring with Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker.
I think Charles (Kelley - from Lady Antebellum) picked it out, said Dickerson. It's definitely the most expensive thing I've ever owned in my entire life. I'm like, Yeah, please don't break.
And Chris Young isn't trying to brag, but the CMA Entertainer of the Year had a special gift for him.
Like I don't think this is a humble brag. But that's from Garth (Brooks), smiled Young.

That has become a thing in the last few years, apparently, yes. They call it a shoey in Australia, at this festival in Australia and they yell it out. A crowd of like 20,000 people yell this out and if you're on stage and you don't do it, you get booed. So yeah, people have been asking me about it and I am like, 'I don't know.' I hadn't done it, but I was just down just there a month ago and they started doing it to me. And so I had to go. I'll tell you what though, I wouldn't recommend doing it out of a sneaker because it's so round, the beer goes everywhere.
(Reporter: So stick to the boot?)
The boot is the better one. Get a sharp angle on that leather, yeah.

(Reporter: How was Australia?)
Amazing. The fans down there were incredible. I didn't know what to expect. I had never been there in my life. And they sang and embraced every word of our songs on stage and it was incredible.
(Reporter: I've heard about this thing called a shoey. Did you do it?)
Yes! I'd never even heard of a shoey til I got there. It's a thing. It's disgusting. I did it. It's a good way to salt your beer down. You pour your beer in your boot and then you drink out of your boot. And how that became a thing to do, I don't know. But whatever. I fell right into place.
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Curtis and Brad Rempel, recording artists, High Valley:
A shoey.
(Reporter: Did you do a shoey?)
Brad Rempel: I did it with chocolate almond milk, which is amazing.
Curtis Rempel: Uggh. Yeah, no thank you.
Brad Rempel: Part of a pre-ACM diet.

STORYLINE:
WHAT'S A SHOEY? COUNTRY ARTISTS TALK ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN DRINKING GAME
When on tour in Australia, Country Music artists are often being asked by their audiences to perform a shoey.
A shoey is the practice of drinking from a shoe and it's something that has become a thing in the last few years, said Australian Country star Morgan Evans at the recent ACM Awards.
They yell it out, explains Evans. A crowd of like 20,000 people yell this out and if you're on stage and you don't do it, you get booed. So yeah, people have been asking me about it and I am like, 'I don't know.' I hadn't done it, but I was just down there a month ago and they started doing it to me. And so I had to go.
What he learned from the experience is that some footwear is better than others for task.
I wouldn't recommend doing it out of a sneaker because it's so round, the beer goes everywhere, he says. The boot is the better one. Get a sharp angle on that leather.
American Country star Dustin Lynch was also introduced to the drinking game on a recent trip Down Under.
I'd never even heard of a shoey til I got there. It's a thing. It's disgusting, says Lynch. I did it. It's a good way to salt your beer down. You pour your beer in your boot and then you drink out of your boot. And how that became a thing to do, I don't know. But whatever. I fell right into place.
