What to do in Bucerias, Beach & Market, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico
The town of Bucerías is located in the northern part of the Bay of Banderas in Riviera Nayarit a charming beach town, with attractive hotels, good dining options and many things you can do in your visit to Bucerias. Here are some of the best things to enjoy:
Bucerias is an excellent place to stay to enjoy the town and the nearby places in the bay, to the north and south.
Church of Our Lady of Peace of Bucerías
A few steps from the town square, you will find the Church of Our Lady of Peace in Bucerías. It has a wide central access and two lateral ones, a tower with three bodies where the bells mark the passing of time in this town.
People who feel nostalgic for the Puerto Vallarta of the last century are going to walk to Bucerias to remember it. Walk through the cobbled streets, greet local citizens who chat with their neighbors at the doors of the many picturesque houses.
Like Puerto Vallarta, before becoming a tourist attraction, Bucerías subsisted on the abundant fruits of the Pacific Ocean and agricultural crops, including corn, peanuts and fruits. In the market these and other products of the field are obtained, in addition fresh oysters and local crafts and of huicholes.
The gastronomy of Nayarit is very varied and tasty, especially the one that is related to the sea. Pesado zarandeado is a delight where a large fish, such as red snapper or snapper, opens up in a butterfly and is roasted on the coals, an already recognized dish of Mexican gastronomy.
You can also recommend the ceviches that are made with white meats of ocean fish, they are undoubtedly a delight that will be offered in the many restaurants of Bucerias.
In Bucerías you can enjoy walks by the sea, it is a pleasure to walk on the soft sands and especially early in the morning, when the sun rises, the beach is wide, long and offers good space and a spectacular view.
Among the sports that are offered in Bucerías is surfing, wakeboarding, boogieboarding and if you look at the strong and constant wind of the place you will easily realize that it is perfect for windsurfing and the most recent development of sailing sports, kite surfing
On Thursday afternoons in Lázaro Cárdenas street, the traditional Art Walk of the place begins, lasting until late at night. You walk down the street entering the art galleries and craft shops of the place. There are also small commercial hooks that are offered in the place, a little drink, a shot of tequila or mezcal, all to encourage them to enjoy and buy something of what is offered,
There are some important dates in the area and specifically in Bucerias where there are parties or celebrations that show the best and the most animated of the town, on January 24 is celebrated the day of the Virgin of La Paz, date on which is taken to the sea in a procession, there await a multitude of boats decorated beautifully, with music and fireworks to complete the experience. October 14 is the anniversary of the town, where it is celebrated to give everything, as is the custom in Mexico and on November 22, the day of Santa Cecilia, patron saint of the musicians, date in which the town receives musicians and bands from the surrounding area that come to compete with the best music that they offer to their patron protector.

SHOW ON TIME - A day in Bucerías!
Little known fact - just down from the sprawling and beautiful resorts of Nuevo Vallarta or ‘new’ Vallarta is charming and authentic Bucerías.
Cobblestone streets and quaint eateries are just the start to this enchanted fishing village turned Canadian tourist destination. The traditions of the Rivera Nayarit town are still flourishing as you can watch as fisherman net fresh catches while sipping moonshine tequila down the beach from the more touristy spots. Shopping is vibrant with particular excitement from local weavers who are eager to show details of their work on the loom such as cactus beetles used to make dies for the yarn. Plenty of english speaking in this village as well.
We traveled over by bike from my moms condo in New Vallarta and it was an easy paced ride with just a short jaunt by cracked sidewalks and sand after about 3 miles by newly paved bike path. You get a peaceful easy feeling upon arriving to colorful homes and smaller resorts which we complimented with fresh juice.
As musicians and artists were always prepared. So we nabbed some drone shots on the beach (entirely legal and of course peaks interest and conversation especially from the locals) and also serenaded them with original tunes from our emerging EP, Crash.
We were recommended La Negra (the Black) for mezcal cocktails from an ex-pat 20 something artist working at one of Bucerías’s many art galleries - it did not disappoint. Incredible and complex flavors, tacos and salsas, we also were lucky enough to meet the owners and pass along our info for a potential gig.
Riding back after dark was just fine with illumination from our iPhones. There’s a 24hour guard at the sandy pass before you emerge back to the land of lights and resorts. We were eager to return a couple days later for the Wednesday farmers market where you can hear live music, taste tequilas and have the best cinnamon rolls of your life. A must do on your Puerto Vallarta or Sayulita experience or excursion list!
