The perfect Irish coffee at Buena Vista Cafe, San Francisco
The origin of the Irish coffee is of course Ireland, but one of the closest takes on the original receipt can today be found in San Francisco, California at the Buena Vista. In the early 50's Stanton Delaplane, Jack Koeppler and George Freeberg decided to try and imitate the drink that the very creator of the drink served Delaplane at Shannon Airport, Ireland. Since then the bar in San Francisco has sticked close to the very close imitation they finally came up with. So even if this might not be exactly what an Irish bar would serve, or any bar around the world for that matter, this might actually be closer to the drinks origin than most. The Buena Vista café is situated just a few blocks of Fisherman's Warf on the corner of Beach and Hyde Street.

Bartender John Jeide Makes Irish Coffees at the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco
Make your own Irish coffee with this recipe:
1) Fill glass with hot water to heat it up, then dump out the water.
2) Drop in two cocktail sugar cubes.
3) Pour hot coffee over the sugar cubes, to fill about 3/4s of the glass.
4) Stir until the sugar is dissolved and mixed.
5) Add Irish whiskey with a bit of room left in the glass.
6) Spoon heavy, cold cream on top.

F. Long and his family. Today the home’s rich, vibrant and colorful exterior
continues to incorporate many elaborate characteristics from the “Painted
Ladies” of the era, including intricate woodwork detail and the signature
“witches hat,” a cone shaped roof with a skinny peaked top that flares at the
bottom.
Local Designer re-imagined the spectacular dwelling with his recent
stunning renovation. After two years and a team of 100, including 23
subcontractors carrying out his vision, this historic home has been
meticulously restored with particular attention to the exquisite period
detail. His captivating redesign has brought an unabashed, fresh approach
to this extraordinary historical residence that will stand the test of time for
many years to come.
