*** Believed to have been established more than 1,900 years ago by Yamato Takeru-no Mikoto, Nezu Shrine is a historic shrine which is also known for its 300-year-old beautiful azalea garden. The garden has an area of about 6,600 square meters and features approximately 3,000 azalea plants of 100 species, including rare varieties such as Fuji-tsutsuji (tiny bean-size flowers), Hanaguruma (pinwheel-like flowers), and Karafune (black azalea). ***
Bunkyo Azalea Festival
Bunkyo Azalea Festival is one of the five flower festivals of Bunkyo Ward, this time Nezu Shrine takes the spotlight. The Azalea Festival (Tsutsuji Matsuri) has over 3,000 flowers and 100 varieties of Azalea (a genus of Rhododendron) that bloom from early April until early May.

Walking through Bunkyo Ward in Tokyo, I came across an azalea festival at a shrine. This is a mostly unedited stroll through the shrine grounds and azalea garden.

JAPAN FESTIVAL - Tsutsuji Matsuri, festival 3000 bunga Azalea
Musim semi membawa begitu banyak keindahan untuk Tokyo. Tidak seperti
bunga Sakura yang lebih terkenal, Azalea sering diabaikan. Tidak banyak orang tahu bahwa ada sebuah festival yang didedikasikan untuk semua keindahan ini. Biasanya menjelang akhir April dan awal Mei, Tsutsuji Matsuri (festival Azalea) adalah salah satu yang tidak boleh dilewatkan.
Lokasi festival ini terletak di kota Bunkyo dekat dengan Universitas Tokyo yaitu di Kuil Nezu. Kuil Nezu diisi dengan banyak varietas Azalea dengan bebagai macam warna dapat ditemukan, bahkan juga hitam! Ada lebih dari 3000 pohon Azalea dengan lebih dari 100 varietas. Ini adalah penataan taman yang menajubkan dengan kuil Shinto berada di tengah-tengah lingkungan bergaya Edo. Bahkan ada air terjun kecil dan kura-kura untuk suasana seperti zen yang sempurna untuk menikmati bunga-bunga.

Azalea Flower Festival | Nezu Shrine | Spring Destinations in Tokyo | Spring Season | Japan
The annual Azalea Festival (Tsutsuji Maturi/つつじ祭り) in the Nezu Shrine, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo is one of best spring destinations. This festival starts from early April until early May.
The Shrine garden with an area of about 6600 sq. metres and is filled with colorful Azaleas all over.
