Cape Blanco Lighthouse
There are a few places along the rugged Pacific Coast where storms first make landfall, tearing at the earth and trees with hurricane-force winds and horizontal rain. Cape Blanco, nine miles north of Port Orford on Oregon’s South Coast, is one of those places.
During the winter, ferocious storms stream in from the Pacific, pounding the cape’s high cliffs with monstrous surf and winds that frequently reach over 100 miles per hour.
The 59-foot Cape Blanco lighthouse, lonely guardian of the most westerly point in Oregon, is perched here, 200 feet above the breaking waves. The oldest continually operating lighthouse in Oregon presides over one of the most dangerous sections of the coast. Surrounding Cape Blanco, sea stacks and offshore rocks—jagged remnants of an ancient shoreline—punctuate the dangers of straying too near. The hidden Blanco and Orford reefs have broken the backs of many ships, earning a healthy respect from mariners. In summer, fog can blanket the area for days at a time, blotting out the lighthouse beacon and making the waters below the cape all the more deadly.
Hiking trails around Cape Blanco Light House, The Sixes river and the Historic Hughes House
Cape Blanco Lighthouse is the westerly most point in the continental United States. Located just north of Port Orford the area has a campground and numerous hiking trails that provide easy day hikes along the beach, sixes river and past the historic Hughes house.
Cape Blanco Lighthouse + A Celebration Dinner
On this Airstream Life vLog, we head up to Port Orford to do some exploring. First stop is the Cape Blanco lighthouse. For $2 a person we learn a lot of history from volunteer tour guides and get to go up to the top of the lighthouse (the oldest operating one on the Oregon coast) and see the Fresnel lens. Very cool! Then we head back to town for a Celebration Dinner since today was course launch day! Thank you to everyone who made our course launch such a success! We show you some of the delicious seafood we get before heading home to our pups. Steve ends the video getting philosophical about what makes someone successful. What do you think?

Coquille Lighthouse 2018
In late March of 2018, we decided to go and see the Coquille River Lighthouse as part of our Oregon journey. It's a quaint little lighthouse, one of 8 along the Oregon coast. We walked down to the nearby beach and watched the waves and sea lions play. Though we were too early in the season for a tour of the lighthouse, it was still very enjoyable.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional At Cape Blanco State Park and Lighthouse, Oregon
I found another perfect day to fly my DJI Phantom 3 Pro quadcopter at Cape Blanco State Park. Unfortunately the lighthouse was open to visitors, so I once again avoided flying too closely and causing annoyance to the tourists.
The video was recorded in 4K 30fps at ISO 100, 1/50s shutter speed by using a SRP ND 16/CP neutral density filter. I also tried out the new Airnest flight program for part of the video with pretty decent results I think. About half the flights were with GPS however. I am not completely thrilled about turning control of my quadcopter over to a computer but will try more once I get comfortable with the reliability of the system.
The video clips were processed with Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

North West Cape Blanco Light House - Oregon Coast - Travel Video
As we continue to work on our dvd project Days in the Great Northwest about our road trip from San Francisco, California up the Oregon Coast last spring I put together this video of the Cape Blanco Light House near Port Orford, OR and thought I would share a sneak peak.
OCAJ Bandon to Port Orford, Part One
In this first episode of the Oregon Coast Adventure Journal, I travel 16 miles from Table Rock in Bandon to Floras Lake along the Oregon Coast Trail and the beach. There are some tense moments trying to cross New River. This is part one of a two part episode covering the coast from Bandon to Port Orford.
Cape Blanco, Oregon and surrounding areas
Cape Blanco was one of the best stops on the Oregon coast. The camp ground there is fantastic. It sits right on top of the Cape near the light house. The trails offer great short and long treks along and down to the shoreline.
Cape Blanco State Park, Oregon
It was a beautiful morning for a walk at nearby Cape Blanco State Park, located a few miles north of Port Orford, Oregon. I used my Gopro Hero 4 Silver camera to record the clips in 2.7K, 30 FPS video.
Camera stability was achieved with the use of a Feiyu Tech G4 3-axis handheld gimbal and the video was processed in Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

Fall In Port Orford
This is my first attempt at a short video clip with my GoPro Hero 4 Silver camera and using Adobe Premiere Pro CC for processing. It went fairly well except for the water spot on the lens that showed up in shots into the sun.
The video clips were taken on Oct 15, 2014 on and around the Port Orford, Oregon dolly dock just after the passage of the second fall storm of the year. Small craft warnings were posted that prevented me from flying my DJI Phantom 2 Vision quadcopter with Rotorpixel gimbal. Maybe another time.....

Cape Blanco is a prominent headland on the Pacific Ocean coast of southwestern Oregon in the United States, forming the westernmost point in the state.Cape Blanco extends further west than any point of land in the contiguous United States except Cape Alava, in Washington. The cape is part of Cape Blanco State Park and is the location of the Cape Blanco Light, first lit in 1870.The cape may have been named by explorer Martín de Aguilar in 1603 for its appearance, as blanco means white in Spanish.
