San Francisco Fishing
Me, Nelson, David, Mang, and Chai went out on a fishing charter with California Dawn. Captain James Smith Jr. was a awesome captain. He put us on the stripers on the very first drop. His deck hands also did a very good job. Couldn't ask for better Captain and deck hands. The only person that didn't do too good was me. I was too focus on video our fishing trip and wasn't really fishing the way I was suppose to. It didn't matter to me tho. I just wanted to make sure this was a fishing trip that I can remember for life. Everyone had a great time. I only post our first half of our fishing trip because I didn't want this video to be too long so I only post up our striper videos. We also caught Rock cods, Ling cods, one Halibut and all kinds of other fishes that day. Thanks for watching.

SF Bay halibut hunt 4K video
We go on a birthday morning fishing trip launching out of Berkeley Marina searching for halibut. If you ever wondered what it would be like to take your small fishing boat into the SF Bay, here is some good video. You have to really pick your days and find the best conditions. Safety first! Sorry for the bad audio
Location: Berkeley Flats 8-12' depth
Time: 0700 - 1000
Rig: sliding sinker rig with an 8 oz cannon ball weight. 2/0 live bait hook snelled with a stinger. 20 lb leader
Wind: 5-8 MPH
Results: 3 hook ups, one landed, 27 10-12 lb halibut
Thanks for watching!
Exciting San Francisco Bay Sailing aboard S/V Invictus
Single handed sailing in San Francisco Bay aboard my 33' 1986 Pearson 33-2 sloop, S/V Invictus. Invictus is available for charter through Boatsetter (basically an Uber / AirBnB for boats) at boatsetter.com/boats/pvdqd
I had some time after finishing a charter and decided to head out for some adrenaline sailing in the 15-20 knot winds that the bay was serving up on that beautiful afternoon / evening.
I have often assured people (my wife chief among them, LOL) that as a fairly stiff blue water capable boat, that there was no way that she could be broached (knocked all the way over) in SF Bay; because while the bay may produce the winds capable of it, you would never see the wave heights required inside of the gate to go with it that would be needed to broach her.
While I was very confident in this, I had never actually tested it. So I purposely put up way too much canvas (i.e. all the sail I had) for the conditions and kept my beam to the wind in an effort to create a knock down situation. While I was able to briefly put the gunnels in the water (prior to the start of the video), as predicted the 2 ton 6' fin keel on Invictus kept her from going over any more than that (as she would simply dump excess wind at that angle).
It did make for some exciting sailing though, and I had a blast, even pushing 8 knots boat speed at times.
It isn't always this exciting (or, as my wife would say, scary), and in my 25 years of sailing I have learned how to adjust sail trim and course to be able to provide a comfortable ride in just about any conditions. Should you wish to join me for a private sailing yacht charter on San Francisco Bay I am offering an introductory rate of $295- a day which includes up to 6 passengers (which would work out to less than $50- per person!) through mid April of 2018. That is for the entire day, and includes the boat and my services as Captain (I am a recently retired former Fire Captain, and a newly minted US Coast Guard licensed Boat Captain). We can go wherever you want, stop just about wherever you want, and you can be as involved or uninvolved in the running of the boat as you wish (if you know what you are doing, I'll let you take the helm and I'll crew for you!).
Come sail away and see The Bay like you never have before!

Adventure Cat - San Francisco Sailing Catamaran Sunset Video (2017)
FULL BLOG POST:
San Francisco sailing under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge at sunset is a bucket list experience! Meeting up with the crew a little while before sunset allowed us time to get comfy and acquainted with the catamaran and crew before sailing out of the docks directly next to Pier 39 and the famous (or infamous) sea lions that have a spot all their own.
Setting sail we headed straight toward Alcatraz and passed by the popular daytime attraction and the shuttle boat that must be used to get there. Sunset was coming quickly so the captain headed toward the Golden Gate Bridge and away we went!
Almost to the bridge we noticed another boat that was there for the same reason...sunset at the Golden Gate Bridge! Seeing the bridge from a whole new vantage point was incredible! We had perfect weather with a golden sun and a bright blue sky, oh and not to mention the reddish orange bridge!
Turning back toward Pier 39 everyone was all smiles and having a great time. The sun sunk into the water and pulled back into the docks to disembark the ship.

SF VMAP IBA DEPLOYMENT TRAINING VIDEO
San Francisco Vessel Mutual Assistance Plan
SF-VMAP - I. B. A. Deployment Training Video.
The San Francisco Bay Vessel Mutual Assistance Plan, or SF-VMAP, is a contingency plan describing actions to be taken by the United States Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, The San Francisco Marine Exchange and local Passenger Vessel Operators for evacuating passengers from a stricken vessel. SF VMAP also provides for fast response to other major marine casualties such as downed aircraft in San Francisco Bay, or other situations that have the potential for large numbers of people in the water.
The plan recognizes (and would require) the assistance of nearby underway VMAP member
vessels, and would rely on equipment spelled out in the plan, including Inflatable Buoyancy Apparatus or IBAs and a means of safely getting in and out of the inflated IBA. This video will cover the deployment and use of this equipment.
SF VMAP Members: Blue and Gold Fleet, San Francisco Bay Ferry, WETA (Water Emergency Transportation Authority), Golden Gate Ferry, The Angel Island Tiburon Ferry, Red and White Fleet, Alcatraz Cruises and Hornblower Cruises and Events.
