In this episode of Guitar Store Tours, we go to my favorite store in Nashville TN, Carter Vintage Guitars. They always have some amazing guitars in stock, but today I got to play one of the coolest guitars ever, Ed King's 1973 Fender Stratocaster that was used to record Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd. This is the Sweet Home Alabama Guitar.

James Trussart Steelcaster Baritone Rustomatic owned by Melissa Etheridge
A fantastic Trussart baritone that was previously owned by Melissa Etheridge. This T-style baritone features a hollow steel body, stained maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, a scale length of 27 7/8 and is loaded with a set of Arcane tele pickups. This guitar was used by Melissa on Shadow of a Black Crow both in the studio and on tour between 2012-16. Melissa states in the video it's a 2010 but according to the serial it's a 2012.
The guitar is in excellent condition and comes with the original hard case and a letter of authenticity.

Buying and Selling Vintage Guitars - A sad tale of a 1965 Gibson ES-330TD

The information in this video comes from my years of experience doing repairs and buying and selling for music stores I've worked at in the Northwest and Texas. Hopefully some insight I'm able to offer from my experiences can help you visually assess an instrument you are buying or selling!
This video details a 1965 ES-330TD guitar I bought on Reverb.com that was not as described.
In this video I use this example of a vintage instrument with some poor repairs and issues to show just a few things to look out for when you are buying or selling guitars.
I should note a couple of things about my video
1) I mention guys in reference to luthiers and techs. One of my best playing guitars was re-fretted by Lauren Ellis in Austin Texas and I in no way intend to insinuate anything about gender here - pick the best luthier in your area to help you achieve your repair and maintenance goals!
2) I mention that binding nibs being gone are the way to indicate a re-fret on a Gibson guitar. This is not the case as some luthiers will be able to preserve the binding nibs at additional cost. Nibs are one way to determine a re-fret but not THE way.

Chazz Bessette has been repairing and modifying instruments and electronics for over 16 years and has served the communities of Sea-Tac, Washington, Austin, Texas and now Portland, Oregon. A gigging musician and recording artist, Chazz has always received inquiries and compliments of his custom made gear.
He began studying equipment under his father's guidance as a Washington state pre-teen and honed his skills over time reading books, building amplifiers and working in the field of instrument sales and repair.
His father, Chuck Bessette is himself an accomplished amplifier builder and designer in Washington state.
In Austin, Chazz made a name for himself as a competent and attentive tech, builder, pickup rewinder helping touring artists such as Dr. Dog, Bobby Whitlock (Derek and The Dominos), Bill Kirchen, Robert Plant, Dave Mason, and many others while remaining an in demand roots rock and roll and garage rock multi-instrumentalist and home recording artist in his band Silver Ships.

On our way home to NYC we stopped in Nashville, TN for a couple of nights. We had the best bacon of our lives at the Frothy Monkey. Along with this crazy good Salted Maple Whiskey Latte (non-alcoholic in case you were wondering) Then we stopped by Carter Vintage Guitars and checked out all of the cool gear previously owned by famous people. And finished the night off with the best ice cream in town at Jeni's. 10/10 would recommend Nashville.

This video opens with some discussion of Presley Barker's recent, inaugral appearance on The Grand Olde Opry as a guest of Ricky Skaggs. The Black Mountain Rag was played then and here in honor of the late, great Doc Watson of Deep Gap, North Carolina. On Friday night, 20 April 2018, The ACMA Pickin' Porch 1 featured a concert with Jeff Little on piano and vocals, Wayne Henderson on guitar, Presley Barker (13) on guitar and vocals, and Luke Little (18)- Jeff Little's son- on mandolin. If you are not familiar with all the well deserved praise for the talents of these four musicians, then listens to these videos and become a fan. Look closely, you will notice that their fingers never leave their hands.
The Pickin’ Porch and it's the sponsoring agency, the Appalachian Cultural Music Association, has recently moved to a new home in Kingsport, Tennessee. The new Mountain Museum and Pickin' Porch Stage 2 (seating now 80+) is at 316 Broad Street in downtown Kingsport TN. Pickin' Porch Stage 1 Theater (seating 261) has planned 18 events in 2018 and 2019 and has a revised location to be held in the Theater (Room 137) of the Kingsport Center For Higher Education on West Market Street. This facility occupies half a block and is about two blocks west of the Broad and Market Street intersection from where the outdoor stage for Blue Grass On Broad has always been located. This theater is also about three blocks from the ACMA Mountain Music Museum at 316 Broad street. Pickin' Porch Stage 2 in the Museum will be used for the traditional weekly shows featuring mostly local and emerging artists, and the Stage 1 Theater at the Kingsport Center For Higher Education will be used for special monthly concerts by touring bands with a modest gate charge.
