Kayaking with Coastal Explorations
Tour of the Currituck Sound with Coastal Explorations. This is the sunset tour and we had great conditions on the water.
The Other Coast - Soundside Outer Banks NC
WATCH IN 1080P. It's not just the ocean on the Outer Banks! Located to the east of the Outer Banks of North Carolina is the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring the western banks are the Currituck and Albemarle Sounds. The Currituck Sound borders the towns of Corolla, Duck and Southern Shores, and further south the Albemarle Sound is the western border for the towns of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head.
There are several animal refuges that surround these sound waters, making this area a rich winter habitat for a wide variety of migrating water fowl. Long before guests flocked to the Outer Banks for beach vacations, it was the diverse wildlife in these waters and marshlands that brought visitors to hunt clubs in this region.
Three prominent Outer Banks tourist attractions are located on the Currituck Sound, including Corolla’s Whalehead Club and Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Duck Town Park, all which provide beautifully landscaped grounds and memorable sound vistas.
Local water sport outfitters are located throughout the Outer Banks and provide sailing lessons, small boat and kayak tours, sunset cruises, pontoon boat and jet ski rentals and other adventurous options to explore the indigenous plant and wildlife on these much calmer sound waters.
Today, the sound is again becoming popular with vacationers, who embrace the water sport activities available on this shallow body of water. Parasailing, sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and jet skiing are just a few options available during your stay.
For those who vacation in a soundfront home, be prepared for amazing water views and our famed North Carolina sunsets. Often sheltered from coastal winds, these homes provide a captivating waterfront haven for vacationing guests. Many homes have private piers, ideal for fishing and crabbing, and for those more adventurous souls, it’s easy to rent SUP boards, kayaks or canoes to enjoy during your stay.
The next time you plan a visit to the Outer Banks, we hope you’ll take time to enjoy all the wonderful perks of our other coast … the sound.

Nags Head - Outer Banks, NC
WATCH IN 1080P. Welcome to Nags Head, the original Outer Banks vacation destination, since 1830. Steeped in rich history, the Town of Nags Head offers guests a wide variety of restaurants, specialty shops, an outlet mall, family activities and some of the best beaches the Outer Banks has to offer.
Nags Head is home to the largest sand dune on the East Coast, Jockey's Ridge. Coastal winds have caused the dune to migrate over time, eventually burying a hotel and miniature golf course. From the top of the Ridge, visitors can see ocean to sound vistas, and the windy ridge is also popular to hang gliders, sand gliders and kite flyers.
Designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974, Nags Head Woods is a 1,400 acre maritime forest. Open daily from dawn to dusk, nature lovers will enjoy six hiking trails, 300 plant species and over 50 breeds of birds.
Originally opened in 1939, Jennette's Pier was completely rebuilt in 2011. Jutting 1100 feet into the ocean, it was designed to showcase information about our local fish, wind energy and more. Pier fishing, day camps, beach explorations and aquarium activities are just a few of the family friendly offerings available.
Rising 165 feet and painted with dominant white and black stripes, a full renovation of the Bodie Island Lighthouse was completed in 2013 and now, for the first time ever, is open to the public to climb.

Corolla Classic Vacations: Outer Banks Hidden Treasures
It's Mallory, from corollaclassicvacations.com ! I went on a Wild Horse Tour with Corolla Outback Adventures recently. The highlight of our tour was when we drove down a narrow path, through a few trees only to come out into an open pasture with about 10 horses grazing. Rick turned off the engine and we all sat in silence, enjoying the beauty of the nature surrounding us! I took this video while we were there.
When you're booking your tour, tell them that you're staying with Corolla Classic Vacations and receive $5 off the adult price! Also ask about their special for 20% off on Sundays only!
Sea Kayaking in the Outer Banks | NC OUTWARD BOUND
Dotted with lighthouses, the Outer Banks are a 200-mile-long string of narrow barrier islands beginning in the southeastern corner of Virginia Beach and going down the North Carolina coastline.
The diverse environment gives life to all kinds of creatures, from deer and wild horses, to sea turtles, ghost crabs and dolphins. Located on one of the great migratory flyways of America, birders come to the Outer Banks from all over the world to spot rare birds. The coastal winds of the Outer Banks still carry tales of The Lost Colony, Wilbur and Orville Wright and Blackbeard the Pirate. During the 19th century, the tricky shoals of the Outer Banks swallowed more than 650 ships, quickly earning the nickname The Graveyard of the Atlantic. The result? An outcropping of lighthouses and shipwrecks, which continue to serve as famous landmarks for the Outer Banks today.

Kure Beach, Fort Fisher, Ferry To Southport, Awesome Fishing Boats and More - NC Coastline Drive
Here is some video from a recent day trip down from Wilmington, NC to Southport. Along the way we traveled through Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Fort Fisher State Park. We stopped at the state park to visit the beach. I got some pretty cool video of the beautiful beaches with gulls and pelicans. The Atlantic Ocean was pretty and blue. We caught the ferry from Ft. Fisher to Southport, NC. As we rode the ferry I got some nice shots of fishing boats and yachts. I'll be posting a followup video of our explorations in Southport. In this video you'll also get to meet Nikki's mom Margaret, and her brother John.
Cape Lookout National Seashore: North Carolina
