State of the College 2016-17 at College of the Desert
Dr. Joel L. Kinnamon, President/Superintendent at College of the Desert, delivered his 2016-17 State of the College address in February to a crowd of business and community leaders, college partners, donors, trustees, board members and others. The past academic year was a busy one full of changes and many great accomplishments. This video held just a few of the many highlights. Overall, College of the Desert added new classes, programs and services, welcomed new faculty and opened new and expanded campus locations all to better serve students and community.
The College also launched a new career and workforce solutions center to strengthen connections between employers and students and vice versa.
Another highlight was November 8, 2016, when voters overwhelmingly approved the Measure CC bond which provided $577.8 million to address urgent and future facility needs at COD campuses across the Coachella Valley.
Busy year of change, however COD's mission remained strong as ever working each and every day to deliver quality higher education to change the lives of our students and our community's quality of life… for the better.

Bullying at College of the Desert
This is something I witnessed and couldn't believe happened at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA on September 29, 2015 at 3:40 pm.
This was at the Beeps Cafe on campus. This is a short clip and only the end of what happened. A woman behind me had a wardrobe malfunction that a majority of the cafe saw. It happened directly in front of this young man in the wheelchair. He looked, as did most of the cafe. The people at this table (sadly I couldn't get all of their faces) starting calling this young man a pervert, f-ing pervert, and so on as he was leaving the cafe.
These were adults bullying this young man! They also saw the wardrobe malfunction and were laughing (quite obnoxiously) at it. The young man, finally fed up with arguing with them, left the cafe. They continued to call him and pervert and laugh at him and the event well after he left.
I'm still in a little bit of shock that these adults did this. I spoke with the young man outside of the cafe and he told me that he's used to being teased and called names. How sad is that? It broke my heart.
So, YouTube.... Let's do what you do best. Let's make this go viral and make this woman famous. Those other people at the table know who they are and have to live with themselves.
(Before anyone brings it up, I had my own personal reasons to not go up to that table and call them out right on the spot.)
