Conway Scenic's Valley Trains, 6-3-19
Hidden away in the Mount Washington Valley and operating out of North Conway, the Conway Scenic Railroad's valley trains snakes their way to Bartlett and Conway through forests and over rivers.
Pictured here, beginning from Bartlett, the valley train makes it's way east to North Conway, and south to Conway before a northbound return trip. Due to traffic, some of my shots were quickened and some shots were missed altogether. This would also be a test run of a new tripod which I still need to familiarize myself with, anyways, hope you enjoy what I captured!

A teraz trochę historii:

Linia kolejowa obsługuje dwie historyczne trasy kolejowe: linia z North Conway do Conway, który dawniej był częścią Oddziału Conway w Bostonie & Maine Railroad, oraz linią z North Conway przez Crawford Notch do Fabyan, która była kiedyś częścią Dywizji Górskiej (Mountain Division) Głównej Kolei Maine (Maine Central). Linia Conway jest własnością Conway Scenic, a Dywizja Górska jest własnością State of New Hampshire. Główny terminal kolei znajduje się w historycznym centrum North Conway w dolinie Mount Washington. CSRX GP35 #252 (Ex- Pan Am, Guilford, Maine Central):
Pod koniec lat osiemdziesiątych 252 trafiło do magazynu w Iron Horse Park w North Billerica, Massachusetts, do 1995 r., Kiedy to zostało usunięte z powodu zamknięcia szopów naprawczych. Został on następnie odnowiony i oddany do użytku, przypisany do B&M. W dniu 28 lipca 2010 r., 252 został nazwany „Kurt Ward”, uhonorować mieszkańca Conway i byłego pracownika Conway Scenic (2000), który zginął w wypadku kolejowym w dniu 10 lipca 2010 r. podczas pracy w Pan Am Railways East Deerfield Yard, w Massachusetts.

Conway Scenic Railway 573 North Conway, NH
Once upon a time... in the land called New Hampshire, lie my aunt and uncle. They live in a very beautiful state (compared to Illinois? psh!) and so, my family went for a visit. My grandpa and grandma, sisters, and mother, and I of course, all drove through the White Mountains, where we stumbled on the little town of North Conway. I, loving trains, saw the station and went off on an expedition. After a while, we returned to North Conway and, in the old freight house, I found a model railroad. It was running trains and was really neat. We had a great time. I had no clue someone had even filmed the run around but my uncle did. He rocks!!
Conway Scenic Railroad -- Yard Action at North Conway, NH
While visiting New Hampshire over the summer, we rode the Conway Scenic Railroad's Notch Train. This was a 5 hour trip up through Crawford's Notch and saw Mount Webster, Mount Washington and many more. The Notch Train is the train with engine no. 216 and the Valley Train is the train with locomotive no. 1751.
Engine 216 is and EMD GP35 and packs 2,500 horsepower, plenty to pull our 5 car train through the notch. on the other hand, engine 1751 is an EMD GP9 and was acquired by the CSRR with a unique trade between the Finger Lakes Railway (near me!) and the CSRR. This locomotive packs 1,750 horsepower, enough for that train!

Conway Scenic Railroad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Conway Scenic Railroad is a heritage railway in North Conway, New Hampshire, United States, owned and operated by Profile Mountain Holdings Corp. The railroad operates over two historic railway routes: a line from North Conway to Conway that was formerly part of the Conway Branch of the Boston and Maine Railroad, and a line from North Conway through Crawford Notch to Fabyan that was once part of the Mountain Division of the Maine Central Railroad. The Conway line is owned by Conway Scenic, and the Mountain Division is owned by the State of New Hampshire.
The railroad's main terminal is located in historic downtown North Conway in the Mount Washington valley. The station complex has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979.
The railroad operates excursions of varying duration under two banners - the Valley Train which runs either south to Conway (55-minute round trip) or west to Bartlett (1¾-hour round trip), and the Notch Train covering the line through Crawford Notch. The Valley Train excursions include the dining car Chocorua. The Notch Train service is typically a 5-hour round trip to Crawford Depot (located at the height of land in Crawford Notch), but is extended to 5½ hours during the fall foliage season when the train travels all the way to Fabyan Station, located near Bretton Woods in the town of Carroll.

Railfan's Special to Whitefield, Conway Scenic Railroad Railfan's Weekend, 9-2-18
Conway Scenic's Railfan's Weekend is an incredible mix of railroading, Saturday included Freight Extras, a photo shoot, and various railroadiana, Sunday had one main event, the Whitefield Junction Excursion, also called the Red Ball Special in the previous year of it's operation. Conway Scenic Railroad made some variations to this years running, most notably the power swap of #216 to #4266, as well the double header from North Conway to Fabyan Station, at that point, the train reconfigured itself to the more familiar locomotive at each end from last year (there is no switch to run around at Whitefield, and the photo opportunity basically demanded a locomotive to be at the tail end of the consist).
The Whitefield Excursion brought passengers and railfans out to Whitefield Junction, where the original last ball signal still in it's original location resides. Years of abandonment has taken it's visible toll on the Junction, while the line remained open to various carriers following it's abandonment by Guilford Transportation (currently Pan Am Railways) in 1983. When Guilford took over the Maine Central and Boston and Maine, the majority of the Mountain Division (the vast majority of the western section of the route) was abandoned as its lack of local customers meant that Whitefield was only useful as an interchange with other railroads besides the Boston and Maine, GTI determined it easier to provide an interchange with the Canadian Pacific in Mattawamkeag, Maine, skipping over the rigorous grades of Crawford Notch. Currently the trackage over the Whitefield Diamond is operated by the shortline New Hampshire Central, as well as occasional use by Conway Scenic, the ball signal has been restored, with the only mainline of the two in use being the old Boston and Maine Berlin Branch. The Maine Central Mountain Sub Division leading to St. Johnsbury, Vermont has been abandoned, with the condition of the line varying from remarkable condition to paved over at crossings and partially removed.
Hope you enjoy!
