Photo Tour of San Francisco- Through My Eyes
I made a photo book tour of San Francisco 'through my eyes' for my mom as a Christmas present. She loved it! She's my mom though so she kinda has to say she likes it. ;)

California - San Diego - Cityscape - Travel Doc
At 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km²) and with more than 300 million people, the United States is the third or fourth largest country by total area, and third largest by land area and by population. The United States is one of the world's most ethnically diverse nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries.
Narrated Random Mediocre Drivelapse With Tangents: Touring part of San Francisco randomly by car
49-minute, 11.6-mile, 149-block narrated drive-lapse tour wandering randomly through parts of San Francisco, discussing history and other points of interest that we encounter along the way. No exciting accidents or anything like that, just me driving around literally randomly on a Thursday evening in August and blabbing about stuff -- sort of a drivelapse crossed with a (low key, somewhat cheesy perhaps?) travel or history documentary. With both new and archival material, occasionally going off on short tangents on various subjects. We do see a few bad drivers along the way (myself included at one point) and some jay-walkers of course.
Two cameras in the car, although mostly just using the main camera, which unfortunately I set a bunch of settings incorrectly on and didn’t mount very well, which leads to a few minor video “idiosyncrasies”, which is part of the reason for the “mediocre” in the title. Instrumented with dynamic maps, position, speed, clock time and playback speed.
By the way, this is the first 1440p (UHD) video I’ve uploaded to this channel. I’ll be interested to know if anyone actually watches it in 1440p.

SUNKEN CITY!! SAN PEDRO, CA
PLS SUPPORT MY DREAMS + SUBSCRIBE + USE AFFILIATE LINKS! ⬇:)
Vlog #302: I visit Sunken City in San Pedro, CA for a quick stop to check out this cool old area.
In 1929 a natural landslide caused several beachside homes in the Pt. Fermin area of San Pedro, CA, to slide into the ocean. The site was dubbed “Sunken City”. The development of cliffside homes and exclusive bungalows was established in the 1920s by George Peck to attract people who wanted to live with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean (6). Experts investigating the landslide said that the ground was shifting at a rate of 11 inches per day (1). The landslide occurred at the southern tip of San Pedro sending nearly 40,000 square feet of land into the Pacific Ocean (1).
The first reports of damage occurred on January 2, 1929, a waterline broke underneath the Ocean View Inn hotel on Paseo Del Mar, and a few days later a gas line broke under the same building (6). Most of the houses on the 600 block of Paseo Del Mar were evacuated and relocated before the collapse (1). There was not enough time to move two houses, which ultimately slid into the ocean (5). Part of the adjoining Point Fermin Park also fell (3). The slide displaced houses, commercial buildings, streets, and sidewalks (6).

Jobless But Not Hopeless - Episode 1 - Marshall's Beach San Francisco
First Vlog, short and sweet. I've just quit my job because I'm ready to move on and want to do something different. Before I hop into the next job I am taking some time off to travel and have some time for myself. That's why I made this video so I could get used to doing this since I want to document my solo travel coming up.
Thank you!

17 Mile Road 002 - 102306 - California Trip 2006
Black Rock Pictures LA 0023
Black Rock Pictures LA - 17 Mile Road between Monterey Beach and Pebble Beach, California Trip 2006.
The 17 Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, California, United States, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions. It also serves as the main road through the gated community of Pebble Beach. Like the community, the majority of 17-Mile Drive is owned and operated by the Pebble Beach Corporation. The 17-Mile Drive is 9.6 miles long, between the entrances at US-1 and Sunset Drive.
At the north end, the road originates in Pacific Grove at the intersection of Del Monte Blvd and Esplanade Street. The famous portion of 17-Mile Drive then begins a few miles south of this point. Where Highway 68 (Holman Highway/Sunset Drive) crosses 17 Mile Drive marks the entrance to Pebble Beach. The road runs inland past Spanish Bay, then adjacent to beaches and up into the coastal hills, providing scenic viewpoints. Travel along 17-Mile Drive takes as long as the traveler likes, a minimum of 20 minutes to Carmel without stops. There are numerous turnouts along the road to stop, take pictures, or get out and stroll along the ocean or among the trees. Visitors receive a map that points out some of the more scenic spots.
Chief among these is the Lone Cypress Tree, the official symbol of Pebble Beach and a frequent fixture of television broadcasts from this area.
In 1990 the Monterey Journal reported that Pebble Beach's lawyer, Kerry C. Smith, said The image of the tree has been trademarked by us, and that it intended to control any display of the cypress for commercial purposes. The company had warned photographers that they cannot even use existing pictures of the tree for commercial purposes. Other legal commentators have questioned the Pebble Beach Company's ability to invoke intellectual property laws to restrict others' use of such images.
The only services open to the public in Pebble Beach (gas stations, restrooms, restaurants) are at the Lodge at Pebble Beach and the Inn at Spanish Bay; there are plenty of comfortable and scenic spots to picnic. Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills golf courses also have restaurants open to the public.
Just outside the Pacific Grove 17 Mile Drive entrance to the gated community of Pebble Beach is Pacific Grove's Sunset Drive (which becomes Ocean View Boulevard) and follows Pacific Grove's scenic coastline and is called by some the poor man's 17-Mile Drive.
MCKAMEY MANOR Presents Christina B. (Round Two)
This is the 2nd time Christina has taken the MM tour. This film is more of a documentary look at her experience, and not the typical fast paced account. You'll see expanded footage of the Pick-Up zone for example that will explain a lot of things that people are concerned about. Normally I don't show the behind the scenes secrets, but for this film I did. You'll also notice not a lot of edits in certain parts of the film, just extended single shots. Again, this is more of a documentary look at her time here at MCKAMEY MANOR.
C-SPAN Cities Tour - Ogden: Utah Construction Company & the Hoover Dam
See original photographs and documents from the Utah Construction Company. The company, founded in Ogden in 1900, was behind many major, U.S. construction projects throughout the 20th century beginning with the Feather River Rail route between Oakland and Salt Lake City. One of the company's most notable projects was the Hoover Dam. Thousands of documents related to company's history are now archived at Weber State University. Sarah Langsdon, the University's Curator of Special Collections, shows us some of the pieces in the collection including scrapbrooks that document the building of the Hoover Dam and original meeting notes taken at the turn of the 20th century.
In LA, poverty on Skid Row defies US’ humane reputation
Sanitary and living conditions for an estimated 2,000 homeless people along Los Angeles’ Skid Row are so severe that the United Nations recently compared them to Syrian refugee camps. This is part of an ongoing series of reports called 'Chasing the Dream,' which reports on poverty and opportunity in America.

Expected to dilute, but don't really know — US Govt: 'Monitoring beaches for debris from Fukushima nuclear disaster' (VIDEO)
Experts: Areas along West Coast may be... affected in a significant way by Fukushima plume in coming months —
Why Are 96,000,000 Black Balls on This Reservoir?
I took a boat through 96 million black plastic balls on the Los Angeles reservoir to find out why they're there. The first time I heard about shade balls the claim was they reduce evaporation. But it turns out this isn't the reason they were introduced.
Huge thanks to LADWP for arranging this special tour for me. Next time let's put the GoPro on the submersible!
The balls are made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is less dense than water so they float on the surface of the reservoir even if they break apart. They are 10cm (4 inches) in diameter and contain about 210ml of water. So the main reason they are on the reservoir is to block sunlight from entering the water and triggering a chemical reaction that turns harmless bromide into carcinogenic bromate. This effect occurs with prolonged exposure to bromate so regulators insist that levels be kept below 10 microgram per liter on average over a 12 month period.

Rim Fire, Yosemite - timelapse video
I had been thinking of heading to Yosemite to shoot the Rim Fire for a few days, but on the 11 o'clock news Tuesday night I heard that Tioga Road CA-120 with the best access would close at noon the next day! So I immediately packed up, headed out, and started shooting the Rim Fire a little after 3am. I shot until morning twilight, caught sunrise at Tenaya Lake, then returned home.
So now a day later I have six time-lapse clips set to The Time To Run by Dexter Britain (DexterBritain.co.uk).
The video is understandably generating mixed reactions, since fire is understood to be an agent of renewal which many species rely on, but it's also a force bringing danger and destruction. I didn't set out to influence viewers in either direction.
There was little room for editorial influence on this short project. I had roughly two hours to shoot from two very limited viewpoints, and I shot with a variety of lenses and focal length from 30mm to 200mm. Even details like the colors were what they were... the first test frame showed both the tinted the starry sky the shade of blue that a half-full moon delivers, offset by the bright oranges and yellows of the fire (although I stabilized the white balance in an individual clip to prevent the camera from drifting as the fire changed, and somewhat across clips so they'd be compatible with each other).
The music choice was made quickly, without a lot of thought, but the scales and repetition work well for time-lapse video. Perhaps most appropriately it's reminiscent of the work of Phillip Glass in the time-lapse movie Koyaanisqatsi, a movie which used time-lapse images to document the natural beauty of our planet if the first half, and aspects of human life in the second half. The title of the song The Time To Run was accidentally fitting in that it's what most creatures appropriately do when faced with fire, perhaps slightly ironic in that it's what we are challenged to do in modern culture which has introduced the concept of ownership of land and the accumulation of more goods than we can carry on it. We've surrendered our ability to simply get out of the way of the fires which do and will happen in this forest. We view ourselves as on this earth, but not of it and within its full range of natural processes. Fires challenge that world view and the notion that we are in control, to a degree that is justifiably terrifying.
In the response to this fire there are two approaches being used. The National Park Service sees fire as a normal and healthy part of the natural ecosystem it preserves, so the fire is being allowed to accomplish it's natural process of renewal. That's where I filmed these segments. A few miles down the road lies Forest Service land, adjacent to that private properties and businesses, and there the focus is on influencing the course of the fire and defending structures and towns. It's not a battle we can always win; over 100 structures have been lost and with weeks to go before the fire is completely out, it will be a harrowing time for the people who have 4500 more structures still threatened. These are more than dwellings and belongings, they represent lives and memories. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the 4931 people currently fighting to influence the path and human impact of the fire as it covers over 201,894 acres, over 200 square miles.
While I didn't set out to portray this isolated hot spot in Yosemite National Park in any particular fashion, it's understandable that it might elicit a range of reactions from horror and empathy regarding the human impacts to optimism about the natural regrowth (and focusing on the positive is a human adaptation to dealing with extreme loss, so there's no one right or wrong way to react).
