Walking San Francisco: Embarcadero Center
This Summer while I was in San Fransisco, California, I happened upon this really amazing street mall in the heart of Downtown San Fransisco for the first time.
The Embarcadero Center was so magical I came back and tried to capture it for what it really is. This is one of my favorite urban environments, the views of the skyline and San Fransisco bay were unbelievable. I honestly think it's the best place in the city. Add this place to your San Fransisco Sites to see because it is not a place you want to miss. The Mall stretches from the Transamerica Tower to the Ferry Building, by the Embarcadero and Market Street.
Walking is definitely the best way to explore Downtown San Fransisco, be sure to check it out in person!

Find things to do, places to eat, attractions and history at the Embarcadero, part of San Francisco's Waterfront.
The San Francisco Bay's waterfront district is an essential destination, also known as the Embarcadero. Just north of the Bay Bridge, you'll find the Ferry Building at Pier 1. It was once a primary entry and exit point for shipping and fortune seekers during the Gold Rush. Today it serves as not only a transportation hub, but an epicurean marketplace, with a farmers market three days a week. A brisk walk further north up the Embarcadero lands you at Pier 15, home to the new Exploratorium interactive, all-ages science museum. And right next door to that is a chocolate lovers dream, TCHO. This chocolate factory offers free tours and it's a great way to learn about the history of chocolate and taste some free samples!

Embarcadero Center (San Francisco) in High Definition - the Downtown Waterfront District
- Spanning five blocks in the heart of San Francisco's prime commercial district, Embarcadero Center is one of the largest mixed-use complexes in the Western United States. With a unique history, Embarcadero Center offers four million square feet of office and retail space. Embarcadero Center is comprised of five office towers, and three interconnected shopping levels within four towers operated by Boston Properties.
Known for its diverse business and entertainment facilities, the Center features more than 100 retail shops and restaurants, a five-screen cinema and services to meet your every need.
Originally known as the Barbary Coast, the Downtown Waterfront District has a rich history that dates from the Gold Rush, a rough-and-tumble era that ignited when gold was discovered in California during the 1840's. From April to December 1849, more than 700 vessels steamed through the Golden Gate filled with fortune seekers hoping to strike it rich. Many of these ships were beached in their berths and converted to warehouses, offices and saloons, the first commercial enterprises near where Embarcadero Center now stands.
Embarcadero Center's five office towers were built in phases, beginning in 1968 and ending in 1983. The office towers, which have a daily population of 14,000, quickly became the corporate headquarters for many major companies.
Further expansion occurred during the mid-1980's when commercial property became available directly west of the complex. The project was expanded to include Embarcadero Center West located at 275 Battery Street.
The Embarcadero Roadway Project has led to an entire renewal of the Downtown Waterfront District that is ensuring a bright future for Embarcadero Center. The Center is just steps away from the 42,000-seat SBC Park, home to the San Francisco Giants baseball team, which opened in April 2000. The waterfront is also the scene of the new Muni F-Line transportation system featuring historic streetcars from around the world. Future projects include the renovation of the historic Ferry Building, a cruise ship terminal and dozens of new restaurants, condominiums, hotels, and entertainment attractions.

San Francisco Downtown - Union Square and Surroundings. 4K Walking Tour ????????
Union Square is a 2.6-acre (1.1 ha) public plaza bordered by Geary, Powell, Post and Stockton Streets in downtown San Francisco, California. Union Square also refers to the central shopping, hotel, and theater district that surrounds the plaza for several blocks.[citation needed] The area got its name because it was once used for Thomas Starr King rallies and support for the Union Army during the American Civil War,[2] earning its designation as a California Historical Landmark.
Today, this one-block plaza and surrounding area is one of the largest collections of department stores, upscale boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, and beauty salons in the United States, making Union Square a major tourist destination and a vital, cosmopolitan gathering place in downtown San Francisco.[3] Grand hotels and small inns, as well as repertory, off-Broadway, and single-act theaters also contribute to the area's dynamic, 24-hour character
At the center of Union Square stands the Dewey Monument, an 85-foot (26 m) column on which stand a 9-foot (2.7 m) statue of Nike, the ancient Greek Goddess of Victory.[16] The monument is dedicated to Admiral George Dewey, a hero of the Spanish–American War for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898.[17] The monument was dedicated in 1903.[2]
Beginning in 2009, painted heart sculptures from the Hearts in San Francisco public art installation have been installed in each of the four corners of the square.
Over the years, Union Square became a popular shopping destination.[26] Several department stores sit within the three-block radius of Union Square, including Neiman Marcus and separate men's and women's branches of Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Barneys New York.[27][28] Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom anchor the nearby Westfield San Francisco Centre, a shopping mall built in 1988 on nearby Market Street.
A mix of upscale boutiques and popular retailers occupy many of the buildings surrounding Union Square. Among the luxury retailers that front Union Square are Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Bulgari, Loro Piana, Moncler, and jeweler Tiffany & Co.; while flagship Victoria's Secret, Williams-Sonoma, Nike, and Apple stores also occupy buildings surrounding Union Square. Other notable brands in the surrounding area include Chanel, Prada, Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Shapur Mozaffarian, Goyard, Dior and Cartier.
