What's in store for York's Guildhall?
Councillor David Carr, leader of City of York Council and executive member for finance and performance, said:
“From the original brief to the choice of contractor, every aspect of this project has been designed to protect and preserve the beauty of the Guildhall while giving more people even better access to its stunning features.
“It is an exciting and creative way to make sure that this historic building plays an important role in York’s future.
“The restaurant will make use of currently derelict ground, and will offer a rare waterfront, publicly accessible space.
“The remodelling will retain Guildhall’s traditional public and civic functions while providing a world-class business venue in the heart of York.”

York Landmarks, North Yorkshire, England
York is filled with interesting things to see. We start by walking the city walls and visiting the Bars (or gates). The Romans built walls here centuries ago, and remnants of their work still appear.
Back into the city we visit the Merchant Adventurer's Hall, a medieval guildhall, still used today for important civic business. It wasn't all about money - these organizations also supported hospitals, education and other charities.
A short walk away we visit Clifford's Tower, (or Cliffort's - depending on the source). This fortress, built on an artificial mound, has been a central military defense for about 1000 years. Of course it's changed over the centuries, and the surviving edifice looks like it could lean-over at any moment. The location makes for wonderful views of the city.
