The Unryu-ji Temple Unryuji is a Buddhist temple in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture which was erected in 720. It is one of the 33 temples on the Kannon Pilgrimage Road. japanhoppers.com The Daio-ji Temple and the Higashiyama Hakusan Shrine are Shinto.
Day 87 & 88 - Takayama and Kanazawa
We couldn't have experienced Japan without leaving Tokyo and getting out to the countryside! We took a train North to Takayama. much to our surprise and enjoyment there was snow!
it doesn't take long to explore Takayama, it's a small town but makes up for it's size in character. We spent the day trawling the streets for local food and souvenirs. We finished the day in bar flame tasting many of the local sake!
Next day we had an early start taking the train to Kanazawa. This is large city with much to see. The highlight for us was Kenrokuen Park. Beautiful scenery with lots of the local people wearing

Fantastic Places in Cool Japan : Along with Mt. Fuji and Mt. Hakusan, Sacred Mountain Tateyama, one of Japan’s three sacred mountains, was a mountain worship mountain until the Edo period. It has been considered the world of “the land of the dead,” with hell and paradise in the mountains. In Tateyama, during the Edo period, there was a legend that if you worshiped you could go paradise, and the mountain climbing faith was thriving. However, because women were prohibited at that time, women could not climb.

This is a video I made at a temple in Kyoto of a procession my friends and I were luckily enough to catch. It went all the way around the temple grounds. This video is of the end of the procession. I have no clue what the man talking to everyone is saying.
