Frontier Fighters - 3/39, Zebulon Pike
One of the most popular radio programs of 1935 was Frontier Fighters, a program that presented dramatizations of the settlement of the American West. There is a constant theme that runs through each episode--the sacrifice men and women made to advance the frontier and to settle the West is what made America a strong independent nation. The message for radio audiences was that all Americans in the 1930s had the strength of their ancestors; the nation would endure. Episodes included dramatizations centering on Lewis and Clark, Marcus Whitman, The Fall of the Alamo, Grenville Dodge and Leland Stanford, Oklahoma Land Run, Alaska, Dakota Territory and the Bozeman Trail, just to name a few.

✚ Watch my Old America PLAYLIST:
This film is a vintage docudrama about the American pioneers (led by Daniel Boone in 1773) heading westward into the new frontier, crossing the Appalachian Mountains into what would later be Kentucky. The film explains the types of people, modes of transportation and various physical dangers in the period of early American expansion. The reenactments shown on screen seem pretty authentic for the most part, and the acting is great.
Historical Background / Context:
From the moment that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492, all the way up to the 20th Century, ordinary people kept pushing the boundaries of the European colonies westward all the way to the Pacific Ocean and northward to Alaska.
These adventurous folks left civilization behind, following rivers, crossing great plains, and scaling mountains, in order to find new and better lives for themselves. Often, they faced hardships and dangers as they made their way through unknown territory, suffering from severe weather, attacks by native tribes, starvation, rugged terrain, and numerous other perils.
American pioneers are any of the people in American history who migrated west to join in settling and developing new areas on the American Frontier. The term especially refers to those who were going to settle any territory which had previously not been settled or developed by European or American society, although the territory may have been inhabited by or utilized by Native Americans.
The pioneer concept and ethos greatly predate the migration to parts of the United States now called Western, as many places now considered as East were also settled by pioneers from the coast.
One important development in the Western settlement was the Homestead Act, which provided formal legislation which regulated the settlement process.
The two icons of pioneer history were Daniel Boone (1734-1820) and Davy Crockett (1786-1836).
About Daniel Boone:
Daniel Boone (1734–1820) was an American pioneer, explorer, woodsman, and frontiersman, whose frontier exploits made him one of the first folk heroes of the United States. Boone is most famous for his exploration and settlement of what is now Kentucky, which was then part of Virginia but on the other side of the mountains from the settled areas. As a young adult, Boone supplemented his farm income by hunting and trapping game, and selling their pelts in the fur market. Through this occupational interest, Boone first learned the easy routes to the area. Despite some resistance from American Indian tribes such as the Shawnee, in 1775, Boone blazed his Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap in the Appalachian Mountains from North Carolina and Tennessee into Kentucky. There, he founded the village of Boonesborough, Kentucky, one of the first American settlements west of the Appalachians. Before the end of the 18th century, more than 200,000 Americans migrated to Kentucky/Virginia by following the route marked by Boone.
Boone was a legend in his own lifetime, especially after an account of his adventures was published in 1784 by John Filson, making him famous across Europe as the typical all-American frontiersman. An American edition made him equally famous across the United States. After his death, he was frequently the subject of heroic tall tales and works of fiction. His adventures were influential in creating the archetypal Western hero of American folklore. In American popular culture, Boone is remembered as one of the foremost early frontiersmen.

GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN--HD--WS
These are shots that I took of Grandfather Mountain in the summer of 2004. These were done the same day that I photographed Linville Falls and these pictures have been enlarged to the widescreen format for the newer HDTV's and HD computers. I took shots of the mountain and the views from the top of the mountain. I also got shots of the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge. The rock formations at Grandfather Mt. are one billion years old. They are most notable on the Sphinx rock and the Split rock. I also photographed the Bears, Deer and a couple of Cougars or Mountain Lions. I then went to their Nature Museum and photographed the NC Gems & Minerals on display there as well as some Indian Artifacts found in the area.

Remains & Relics from a 1960's Theme park: The Daniel Boone Village & Railroad
This is what remains from an old Theme Park from the early 60's in Hillsborough NC, which had a Theme park Train, {Daniel Boone Railroad}, which had a Cowboy and Indian show, and other rides. Now all there is are the remnants of train tracks deep in the woods. It was started by James Freeland, who did a lot for the community and was in Fact called The Walt Disney of Hillsborough, N.C, but his dreams sadly didn't pay off the way the real Disney's did. However, he was a big philanthropist and was still well known and loved amongst his own community. Thank you for watching and Please subscribe, because i'm always working hard to bring you interesting videos.

Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster on-ride HD POV @60fps
Skip forward to 3:24 if you only want to watch the downhill portion of the ride..
At 2500 feet in length, this Wiegand alpine coaster is the shortest of the four alpine coasters in the area but still a very fun ride and well worth trying out. This video was filmed at full speed throughout the ride.
The Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster is located near Pigeon Forge in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Also called mountain coasters, these gravity-operated rides installed on a hill or mountain utilizes a track made of stainless steel tubes. The sleds are designed to not come off of the track during the ride and riders control their speed by applying or releasing brakes connected to levers on each side of the sled.
