Chapter 10 - The Fremont Theater - Downtown San Luis Obispo Walking Tours
The Fremont theater is a classic example of 1942 design based on Art Deco. It was designed by architect S. Charles who was inspired by the elegant ocean liners of the time. It opened on Memorial Day in 1942, just 5 months after the US entered WWII. The theater provided entertainment for the thousands of soldiers encamped at a local military training camp. The first showing at the theater was opened by a 17 movie stars including Laurel and Hardy and they raised over $700,000 selling war bonds.
Chapter 9 - Old County Courthouse - Downtown San Luis Obispo Walking Tours
This courthouse was built on land donated by JP Andrews back in the mid-1800s. The first courthouse, built in 1873, was demolished by Alex Madonna in 1939 and there is a great story of how he got the job. The new courthouse was built by 1940 using funds from the State Emergency Relief Administration.

Chapter 6 - Muzios / Sauer Bakery - Downtown San Luis Obispo Walking Tours
This is a multicultural stop highlighting a Swiss-Italian general store known as Muzio's and a German bakery known as the Sauer Bakery. Both businesses were started by European immigrants and the buildings contribute to the historic fabric of our downtown. If you wanted to find the local socialist meeting, Muzio's was the place to be. It was full of small aisle ways stuffed with all kinds of yummy things. The Sauer bakery was started in 1860 by two brothers and consisted of a bakery and a general store and it still stands today.

NOURISH - Napa Valley Museum
The table. A place where people come together. Artist Nancy Willis wants us to notice the labor, the attention to detail, or the visual artist whose work is contributing to your next dining experience. NOURISH at the Napa Valley Museum reminds us to celebrate the beauty, strength, and relativity of the visual arts as a vital source of daily nourishment.
Let's pull artists and chefs together and see what happens.

The Story of Mission San Luis
Orientation video to Mission San Luis: Florida’s Apalachee-Spanish Living History Museum and archaeological site in Tallahassee, FL, USA.
From 1656 to 1704, San Luis served as the principal village of the Apalachees and was the Spaniards' westernmost military, religious, and administrative capital in La Florida. Mission San Luis was one of over 100 mission settlements established in Spanish Florida between the 1560s and 1690s. It was home to more than 1,400 residents, including a powerful Apalachee chief and the Spanish deputy governor.
Today Mission San Luis is the only reconstructed Spanish mission in Florida. As a living history museum it is devoted to sharing the stories of its former Apalachee and Spanish residents. Knowledge of life at San Luis over three centuries ago comes from intensive archaeological and historical research—the site is the most thoroughly investigated mission in the southeastern United States.
Join us in exploring native culture and Spanish colonization in a meticulously recreated landscape!

Rio Grande Heritage
Finally after nearly a year I can run this thing. I was lucky and got one that had a defective motor, so after all sorts of testing, shipping it off to Colorado for more testing, then having the lead wires literally burn off from the motor, we realized this was an MTH issue. So it had to be shipped off to them for a replacement motor. The #8444 has never given me a problem though, so now that I have the RG unit back, I feel it's safe to get in and install sound. So yes, I have mixed feelings towards MTH. Their models are absolutely beautiful, but their mechanical issues of the past puts a nice big black mark in their corner.
Anyway, here's my Rio Grande heritage leading an APL stack train. #8444 is consisted in along with EJCM Lease #4499, a C44-9W. The 4499 is a club owned locomotive that I custom painted. Oh, and EJCM is the club's initials (Eastern Jackson County Mainliners).
