Exploring the Secret Caves and Lagoons of Phang Nga Bay in Phuket, Thailand
This time we spent the day on a Kayaking Tour via the John Gray Sea Canoe Kayaking Tour. We went on the Hong by Starlight day trip. Had a great time exploring the different caves and lagoons only accessible at certain times of the day. We also participated in a mock Loy Krathong ceremony.

Phang Nga Bay is a 400 km² bay in the Andaman Sea between the island of Phuket and the mainland of the Malay peninsula of southern Thailand. Since 1981 a big part of the bay is protected as the Ao Phang Nga National Park. It is situated in Phang Nga Province, at 08°17'N 098°36'E.
Limestone cliffs with caves, collapsed cave systems and archaeological sites are found about Phang Nga Bay. Some 10,000 years ago, when sea levels were lower, one could walk from Phuket and Krabi.
Phang Nga Bay Marine National Park was declared a protected Ramsar Site (no. 1185) of international ecological significance on 14 August, 2002. Phang Nga is a shallow bay with 42 islands, comprising shallow marine waters and intertidal forested wetlands, with at least 28 species of mangrove; seagrass beds and coral reefs are also present.
At least 88 bird species, including the globally threatened Malaysian Plover (Charadrius peronii) and Asian Dowitcher (Limnodromus semipalmatus), can be found within the site, as well as 82 fish species, 18 reptiles, three amphibians, and 17 mammal species. These include the Dugong (a vulnerable species), White-hand Gibbon (Hylobates lar), the endangered Serow (Capricornis sumatraensis), shown here, and the Black Finless Porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides).
A number of diverse cultures co-exist in local communities, which practice fishing, harvesting Nypa palm fronds for thatch, and catering to an international tourist presence drawn both by the natural beauties and by the archaeological sites, which have paintings more than a thousand years old.[1]

Amazing Ao Phang Nga - A Thailand Travel Video

We were staying in Phuket recently and looking for some adventure when we stumbled on this amazing place. We had heard of the James Bond Island — it's hard not to, they advertise it all over Phuket — but we didn't want to go with a big tour group. So, we rented a car, quickly learned how to drive on the left side of the road, and set off at six o'clock in the morning to the amazing Ao Phang Nga National Park, home to the archipelago that hosts the James Bond island and hundreds of others.
We didn't know what to expect after the hour long drive, but we brought along our cameras, a mavic pro and good attitudes and we hoped to make the most of it. We went straight for the national park visitor center after a quick shoot by a beautiful inland rock formation. Across the way there was a line of longtail boats waiting to be hired. We booked out one of the boats and a driver for an entire day — which cost only about $60.00, U.S. — and grabbed some local beers for the ride.
We never actually made it to the big tourist sites, because they were overcrowded and, honestly, we didn't have much interest. The entire area is scattered with similar rock formations, so, we anchored up to one without any other boats nearby and cut off our own little slice of paradise for a few hours.
One of the major highlights while cruising back to the Ao Phang Nga National Park visitor center was stopping by Koh Panyi, a small, stilted muslim community residing in the middle of the bay on a secluded island. Most tour boats stop here early in the day, so we really had the place to ourselves — among the 1,685 friendly residents that live there full-time. It was the perfect end to a day that had little expectations. When we go back, we won't be doing it any differently.
If you want to discuss our experience at this beautiful destination in more detail, feel free to reach out! We're happy to chat.
HONG ISLAND UNDER THE STARS - Kayaking though Caves in Thailand | Vlog 29 (Drone 4k)
Explore Hong Island, Thailand with us from the water! We boat out to the National Park and adventure around the magnificent islands, where we kayak through oyster & bat caves and into secret lagoons where families of monkeys and mudskippers live.
We end the day by flying the drone for an amazing aerial view of sunset above Hong Island. After nightfall, we perform a Thai celebration ceremony, and see the bioluminescent plankton in the water.

Trip to Phang Nga Bay | Panak, Hong & James Bond Island - Khao Phing Kan & Ko Tapu | Thailand
Phang Nga Bay can be found in the Strait of Malacca. This Thailand paradise is located between Malay Peninsula’s mainland and Phuket. The area is surrounded by beautiful views, and it beckons visitors to come explore further. Here you will discover native wildlife, unspoiled rivers, and some of the most intriguing caves around. In fact, a large portion of the bay is now protected so that this natural beauty will remain with us for a very long time. Protected areas lie within AO Phang Nga National Park which is only one of the many outdoor recreational areas you’ll enjoy while visiting Phang Nga Bay.
A distinctive feature of Phang Nga Bay are the sheer limestone karsts that jut vertically out of the emerald-green water. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. By far the best means of enjoying the spectacular scenery, with only brief encounters with the tourist crowds at James Bond and Koh Panyee, is to take one of the boat trips from the northern end of Phuket. A leisurely day trip cruising through the dramatic limestone islands, occasionally stopping to enjoy quiet beaches, is far more rewarding than the standard bus-boat tour.
Koh Panak Located southwest of Koh Hong where many caves and inner sea are around the island. Some caves can be reach by kayaking while some have very high entrance that tourists need to climb up. The inner sea will be seen from the cave entrance. The favorite attractions are Khang Khao Cave, Ic Cream Cave and Gong Gang Cave.
Koh Hong is a get away island on the Krabi coastline. Spend your day doing nothing but lazing on virgin sands. This wonderful group of tiny islands offers breathtaking scenery, soft white-sand beaches, coral reefs and a beautiful lagoon. It’s where you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, sunbathing, hiking, and picnicking. Koh Hong is part if Than Bok Khorani National Park and it’s only open for day visits with no overnight stays allowed.
What puts Koh Hong on top of many visitors’ itineraries is its spectacular rock formation and its breathtaking natural lagoon surrounding by majestic limestone formations. There is only one way to enter this inner lake; the entrance channel’s width is about 10 metres, therefore you can easily get in with a long-tail boat or a kayak. The water is not deep, just about one metre, perfect for leisurely swim.
Khao Phing Kan or Ko Khao Phing Kan is an island in Thailand, in Phang Nga Bay northeast of Phuket. About 40 metres (130 ft) from the shores of Khao Phing Kan lies a 20-metre (66 ft) tall islet called Ko Tapu or Khao Tapu.
The islands are limestone tower karsts and are a part of Ao Phang Nga National Park. Since 1974, when it was featured in the James Bond movies The Man with the Golden Gun and Tomorrow Never Dies, Khao Phing Kan has been popularly called James Bond Island.
Ko Tapu is a limestone rock about 20 metres (66 ft) tall with the diameter increasing from about 4 metres (13 ft) near the water level to about 8 metres (26 ft) at the top. It lies about 40 metres (130 ft) to the west from the northern part of Khao Phing Kan.

The Mangrove forests of Ao Phang nga, National Park, Thailand
Beautiful Mangrove forests around the Ao Phang nga National Park just east of Phuket. Could spend the whole day cruising around the small little creeks and just wait for what to come after the next bend. Very relaxing. 5 minutes alone and I would have become lost.

Ao Phang-nga National Park is incredible. It's just over the bridge to Phuket Island. James Bond Island was fun (Man with the Golden Gun) - the mountains are amazing, the floating village is a self contained village. Super fun to go around. The drone video is pretty amazing.
