The Lady Knox Geyser is a geyser in the Wai-o-Tapu area of the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand. The geyser is induced to erupt daily by using a surfactant. Eruptions produce a jet of water reaching up to 20m and can last for over an hour, depending on the weather.

I have come back here 4 years later with my sister to show her something that fascinated me back in 2012 when I visited the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland in the Taupo region of New Zealand. This 9 minute video shows what happens when a chemically engineered environmentally friendly surfactant is put in to the top of the Geyser. We also learned about the history of the Taupo region, New Zealand’s first open prison and New Zealand’s 5th Governor and his daughter, Lady Constance Knox after whom this Geyser is now named.

Initially walking around the Wai-O-Tapu thermal area of colourful craters, sulphur caves, hot springs and boiling mud pools. Following this we visit Lady Knox Geyser and more mud pools before a short visit to Huka Falls and then Lake Taupo, New Zealand's biggest lake. The day finishes with Tawhai Falls and Skotel Alpine Resort in Tongariro National Park.

Among all the things to do in New Zealand, this one is definitely not to be missed!
Another reason to visit Waiotapu Wonderland is Lady Knox – gorgeous geyser, erupting daily at 10:15 am. Be ready to storm through some suspension bridges, hot springs and mud pools on your way there! Convenient track of Waiotapu will take you back to all the sights you might have missed after the spectacular performance by Lady Knox.

Lady Knox Geyser - Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland - Rotorua, New Zealand
One of the main attractions at the Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland in Rotorua, New Zealand is the Lady Knox Geyser! It is only shown once a day at 10:15am so make sure you get there early enough to get your tickets and some good seats. It starts off with a local guide explaining us the history of this geyser and providing a little background of this thermal area. It's pretty cool to watch the geyser explode!

Lady Knox Geyser - Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland - New Zealand
The Lady Knox Geyser is one of several in the Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland area on the north island of New Zealand. This Geyser will naturally erupt every 24 to 48 hours. For the visitors it needs to be more regular than that. So, each day at 10:15am the rangers give the general public a small presentation, explaining about the Geyser's history. Near the end of the talk, they will place some environmentally friendly Surfactant into the Geyser, which will cause it to erupt shortly after the talk ends.
